Love to play a video game called, ‘Polar Bear’

Rushed home and start playing the game without even eating my lunch

Whenever your parents remind you to do your homework or revision, you agree to it. However, whenever I am in my room, my eyes wander to my computer. I tried but could not resist the temptation of playing the video game.

I was also training very hard for the World Championship, an online competition. Instead of sleeping at night, I sneakily played that game after midnight.

As a result, I had very little sleep and I find myself dozing off during lessons.

Soon, it was my Mid-Year Examinations. With little revision and sleep, I was not ready at all.

I felt a little guilty for not revising my work but I was so focused on my training for the competition.

During my English examination, I realised I could not answer many questions.

In a moment of panic and anxiety, I peeped at my friend’s question paper.

I was so engrossed in copying the answers that I did not notice that my teacher was glaring at me.

I was caught red-handed and sent to the Principal’s office for cheating. I was devastated.

My parents were informed and I was given a week’s detention. I was ashamed of myself and felt very upset that I had let my parents down.

They found out about the online competition and banned me from participating in it. My computer privileges were taken away from me which truly caused me to reflect on my actions.

How did I let this temptation take over my life? I was so addicted to the online game that I had lost control of my life. I had to put a stop to this temptation. I told myself to focus on my studies only.

Within months of working hard and revising, I passed my End-Year Examinations with flying colours.

My parents and teachers praised me for the hard work that I had put in. It made me glow with pride.

I realised that my addiction to my temptation of playing online games could be overcome by not giving up and getting the support of the loved ones around me.

I vowed to overcome any other temptation in the future.
