One of the most popular trails in the Santa Monica Mountains is the Backbone Trail. Stretching 67 miles through protected coastal Mediterranean habitat, the Backbone Trail provides biking, hiking, and equestrian access. Although mountain bikes are prohibited in certain areas, the majority of the trail (43 miles) is open to bikers. Those who want to enjoy some of the best biking along the trail can traverse the 13.8 mile-long single-track portion that runs from Will Rogers State Historic Park to the Temescal Ridge Trail.
