I think that the troubles Vladek had encountered outside of the camp were nothing compared to the problems inside the camp. The difficulty to survive probably spiked, and that Art and Vladek probably fight over Anja. Art’s anger at Vladek for who he believes killed Anja because of his neglect/lifestyle.

I think that in the second book where it says “ and here my troubles began” it means that Anja might be pregnant with Artie which will cause problems for Anja and vladek and probably Artie as well. I think that because it’s hard to be a pregnant Jew person at the time that they’re at.
