Napoleon, France's leader at the time, offered Palestine as a home to Jews under the French government’s protection. The idea of a Jewish state in the middle east was not finalized by Napoleon, but this idea was revitalized by the British in the late nineteenth century. After WWI, when the Ottoman empire collapsed ( which contained Palestinian land) and the Palestine mandate was established, British colonial powers began to continue onto the plans Napoleon had desired. Alongside that, the Zionist movement had been growing rapidly and western powers began supporting the mass migration of European Jews into Palestine and claim the land as theirs. In 1917, the Balfour Declaration declared British support for this idea. A letter written by Arthur James Balfour, the Foreign Secretary, to Baron Rothschild, the leader of the British Zionist movement supports this claim. It was also endorsed by prime minister David Lloyd George, Britain's prime minister at the time. The mass migration of Zionists to Palestine, supported by the British, was met by fierce indigenous Palestinian resistance. The purchases of land by Zionists displaced tens of thousands of Palestinians from their villages and homes; this whole process being overseen and facilitated by the British. In 1935, the Palestinians, let by Izz Ad-Din Al-Qazzam,  decided to revolt and attack the British, which heavily influenced the Palestinian population to their next idea. In 1936, the Arabs rebelled and targeted the British imperialism and Zionist settler-colonialist ideas. By 1939, the Palestinians were fighting two groups; British colonial forces and Zionist militia groups. At that time, there were new limits on how many Jews could enter Palestine, which upset the Zionist groups. In turn, they launched terrorist attacks on the british to drive them out. As the Zionist forces became stronger, the Palestinians were outnumbered and outgunned. And the Zionists knew that, so they began to slowly and deliberately expel Palestinians from their homes. In 1947-1848, military commanders and leaders met frequently, until they finalized plans to ethnically cleanse Palestine. On May 14, 1948, the nation of Israel was established. And the next day, the Nakba occurred, where the Israeli army expelled and killed many Palestinians from their homes.

There is a very clear divide between Israeli citizens and Palestinians. They cannot do the same things as each other, as Israel limits Palestinians’ freedom and movement. In the west bank, Palestinians may not leave without special permission, and even after getting that special permission, they must travel through many checkpoints in order to get to their destination. A trip that would usually take 15 minutes takes three hours due to the intense security and walls the Israeli government holds. Alongside that, people are not allowed to visit from the Tel Aviv airport. Even Palestinian Americans cannot if they hold Palestinian citizenship/passport. If they want to get to Palestine, they must travel through Jordan and cross a border into Israel, where they also face many checkpoints and security checks before they reach Palestinian territory. Unfortunately, People living in Gaza do not have even those minimal rights and freedoms. Gaza is pretty much an open-air prison, separated by walls monitored by the Israeli government, not letting them leave. It is very difficult for Gazans to leave their homes, and they've become Israel's target for many years. Just this year, in May, Israel bombed Gaza many times; destroying homes and killing thousands of people. Also, the Israeli government has been attempting to ethnically cleanse more Palestinians than before, in neighborhoods like Sheikh Jarrah and cities like Silwan. This is definitely not the first time the Israeli government has done something like this, and it is definitely not the last.

I am not denouncing the state of Israel in any way, but the atrocities and human rights violations they have committed against Palestinians are extremely horrifying and saddening, and they should be held accountable for what they've done. The conflict has been going on for 73 years, yet there is barely any media coverage on it. We want peace and human rights. Obviously, we cannot bring the millions of people killed back to life. But we can restore the rights Palestinians had pre-1948, and release those who were wrongly imprisoned by the Israeli government. Because of that, they do not see me as an american when it comes to natural rights. i am seen and treated as solely a Palestinian. From experience, one time I passed a checkpoint and gave them my American passport. They barely glanced at it and asked me for my Palestinian passport. I also cannot enter from the Tel Aviv Airport. One of my cousins attempted to, and they put her on the next flight back to California after 10 hours of confiscating her items and questioning her, just adding to the lack of rights Palestinians are given

- In another scene, where Farid and Connor were sitting down and having a conversation, Farid says " I never understood why there was so much suffering Connor (Grennan 246)." This passage relates to my service experience of making the info graphic because as a child, I really didn't know what was going on overseas. But as I grew older, I became more aware of the bigotry, racism, and discrimination being targeted towards my people, and it hurt to find out.
- In this scene, Connor is watching the TV in Nepal and has a little moment within himself saying, " maybe, just maybe, our children- the Little Princes and the seven children-had a brighter future ahead of them ( Grennan 100)." This passage made me think alot about my younger cousins overseas. Will they have to live a life faced with racism, discrimination, and bigotry like my family did? I came in thinking I knew a lot about the conflict and that I wouldn't really have to research anything, but I came out of it with a lot of new information I did not know before. Throughout the weeks I was working on this project, I also reconnected with a lot of my cousins because we talked about the occupation and what they face daily. It was nice seeing their perspectives, especially because I only get to go overseas every few years and with time, things are bound to change. Overall, I just really hope that the people who see this become interested in expanding their knowledge about the apartheid and oppression Palestinians face on a daily. I want the oppressed's side to be heard, not just the oppressors.
