Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the hard work that was put in in a sculpture and the beauty of it. But I probably did not have any interest in knowing more about sculptures until I had Fine Art as a subject. At first I thought that sculptures are just figures of rocks, marbles or woods that are carved to form a shape. Well it is, but it is more than that according to my Fine Art class which I will get into on the second part of this paper. I also thought that sculptures were made just for displays in museums and decorations in the house. Sculptures to me were just a 3 dimensional art made to fill in a space. I finally knew why sculptures are made and why it is important for people to understand what it is all about and what it brings to us, the viewers. According to one of our readings, a sculpture must be appreciated by how it stand by itself. A sculpture according to that reading says that a sculpture must be appreciated by its beauty and not because of how it was made, and its history. A sculpture can also be appreciated by how every part of it falls into place perfectly, may it be abstract or realistic. This made a lot of sense to me which made me realize that it is not hard to appreciate the beauty of a sculpture. What you see is what you get, literally. A beautiful piece can be appreciated by itself and not by how the creator of it made it or the tragedy behind the sculpture. I want to learn how to feed the eyes of the viewers with beauty with my sculptures. I also want to learn how to influence people on creating or at least, viewing and understanding the simplicity of the beauty within a sculpture.
