As individual's we all have different abilities; some excel in math, while others in the arts. Some students do best with hands-on learning, and others visually or audibly. In short, differentiated instruction is a method of teaching in which educators recognize and adapt to their students needs. It is a way of teaching to learners with varying abilities and hinderances

Foremost, teachers must be mindful of their students learning preferences. In efforts to maximize growth, we must recognize that students have different interests, different ways to responding instruction and different styles of learning. In turn, learning goals should not be the same class wide; instead objectives should be individually tailored to appropriately fit the student, while keeping aim towards grade-level proficiency.

Students should be offered multiple ways to excel. They must be able to demonstrate their new understandings through a handful of opportunities, as certain methods may prove to be inefficient. Teachers should focus on the 3 domains of learning to effectively adapt their classroom; the 3 areas are content, process & product.

Classrooms, specifically early childhood, must have a surplus of literature with a vast range of reading levels.

Students should practice vocabulary based on their current skillset. Therefore, some students may have more advanced words than others.

Certain lessons may be accelerated or made to be more complex to fit the needs of higher-level students. In addition, teachers may provide scaffolded notes in efforts to help reduce the frustration of "keeping up".

Students are undeniably more engaged when they are actually interested in the material they are learning. Allowing students to choose their own book selection with adhere to their fascinations.

Some learners prefer certain organization systems opposed to others. Using a variety of charts, such as Venn Diagrams, KWL (Know, Want to Know, Learned), & Reader Response Charts allows students to capitalize on their interests.

It may beneficial to pair the more advanced students with those who are struggling to encourage peer-learning.

Additionally, group sizes should change often; paired assignments, large/small group work & independent work.

Educators should frequently offer students choice; whether it be the position in the classroom where they choose to do their work or the specific assignment/center they partake in, choice is a prime motivator.
