They even wanted to play with them, rather than go to recess. I love the idea of the task cards. Can't wait to use those! Kelli

Thank you for the task cards. I have been able to purchase an Osmo (and got the free one), a Sphero and a Makey Makey. So excited to put them in centers this year along with some Legos, looms and gears. Really concentrating on the idea of creation and imagination. My library is getting new carpet this summer so a great time to re-evaluate space and design for my Makerspace and centers. Sherri

Got to try this at a conference just today. We used play do as the conductive medium and foil bracelets as the grounding material. One group of six linked hands to make a circle and the connection went around the circle to make the piano sound. kits are $49.95 from the Makey Makeky website http://goo.gl/5aJwFi

Carole

Sherri I was thinking the same thing about using QR codes or Arasma since I have primary kids (k-2). How to make the directions more kid friendly without making a sample and then the kids wanting to do exactly what I did. This year I had that issue a lot. Whatever I did as a sample the kids did as well rather than truly creating on their own. Any ideas?

Ive been able to have some teachers plan lessons in the makerspace too using both these tools. We also have tried using ipads to have the kids do tasks for augmented reality, origami, and painting/drawing.

Thanks for the task cards! I am excited to try a couple of the new ones!

Kari Heitman

Just recently purchases Osmo and little bits for my makerspace. I have a Sphero but haven't played with it enough to know how to incorporate it. We do have Bee Bots and used them for coding last year. Kids loved it. Teachers then checked them out for lesson on their own. We just got Dash and Dot and learning how they work. Also got a google cardboard viewer that is awesome! Kids will love it! Love the task cards but need something more child friendly to use with 1-2 graders since I am in a primary school. Anyone out there want to work on that with me?

Sherell Stepp

I decided to use some of my Spring book fair money to go shopping on Amazon for items for our Makerspace area for this year. I wanted to create STEM/STEAM based stations that the kids could go to after our lesson. Here's an idea of what I bought to add to what we already had this year...

For Science: Laser Maze Logic Game and Gravity Maze Logic Game, Snap Circuits

For Technology: Sphero, Lego mini-community figures and fairytale figure to create stop-motion stories

For Engineering: Marble Run with extra Marbles, Tinkertoys

For Art: Osmo, knitting and crocheting books, Orb Factory Magnetic Mosaics, Melissa and Doug Magnetic Picture Maker

For Math: Playmags, puzzle cubes and dice

I also struggled for Makerspace activities for my younger students (K-2) which is where many of my choices came from. I'm re-arranging my space as well to accommodate a better flow for the activities. I love the Task Cards and plan on using them as well! THANKS for sharing!

@SandyLiptak

Sorry I'm late to this party! Our elementary makerspace consists of rotating library centers and some circulating kits which are VERY popular. I have Scratch/Scratch Jr./Lightbot coding, Q-BA-Maze maze building blocks, Goldie Blox, littleBits, paper circuits, and electric sewing. I'm hoping to find some money in the budget for a Sphero, but we'll see how that goes.

@MrsJintheLib
