Problem: Younger people today tend to be night owls as their free time is mostly at night. This is because the daytime is spent studying and finishing work. Therefore, youths see nighttime as their time for entertainment or extra time to catch up with work. This results in sleep-deprivation, which many Singaporean young people experience.
Solution: Since it is easier to get up late rather than sleep early, the schools should allow later school days to allow students more sleep. Also, young people should set limits on the apps that they tend to use late into the night, and make sure they finish all their work before a certain time, so they can focus more on their health and sleeping. With these two suggestions, young people should be able to sleep more and be healthier, thus allowing them to function well in the day time.

Secondary school requires students to have compulsory CCAs and they often take up as much time as 6h on a weekly basis. We are required to stay back after school for long hours and hence by the time we head home, the sky is dark and we are completely drained. Therefore, even procrastination occurs when we finally reach home, wanting to take a break before starting on the heap of homework. As most students reach home at 7pm or 8pm, depending on the time their CCA ends and considering transportation time, it is near to impossible to get more sleep on a normal school day with loads of homework.

Therefore, I propose that schools should reduce the amount time spent on CCA, reducing it to 1 or 2 times a week at most instead of 3. Furthermore, CCA is meant to be fun and to let students enjoy something after a long day of school while being productive in their certain passion. However, having too many hours of CCA would make us restless and unwilling to put our best effort in.

School hours take up the majority of a student's day and often leaves them physically and mentally exhausted, however they cannot rest even after they return home because of assignments and homework. By the time the homework is done it might be very late into the night and students are left with an insufficient amount of time to get a healthy amount of sleep.
Therefore, in order for students to be able to get enough sleep, I propose the solution of reducing the number of school hours.

Young students are increasingly getting less sleep, because of the heavy workload they have. However, their lack of sleep is more pronounced/prominent because of their poor time management due to the distractions of technology. This leads to them having to burn the midnight oil in order to finish their work, which leads to sleep deprivation.

Thus, we suggest for parents to set screen time limits to their children's devices, or take away their children's phones when during their study time.

Many students face the issue of being easily distracted by mobile devices. As such, they start to neglect their schoolwork during the day, and push it all to the nighttime. They then get lesser sleep as they end up staying up late in order to complete their work. Limiting student's screen time allows students to not get distracted as much while doing their work.

Many of our friends are constantly on their phones, and most of their screen time is made up of them using their social media platforms which leads to them having high screen times of 6-7 hours while they have significantly lesser time to complete their work. By having my parents limit the amount of screen time, I have been able to focus more on my academics and sleep earlier.

Thus, we propose for parents to set screen time limits on their child's devices to enable them to finish their homework faster, in turn getting more sleep.
