Students design and assemble a weather monitoring system using electronics that measure multiple weather parameters. Students program sequences, loops, and conditionals to collect and display data. Along the way, they learn about the factors that affect weather, such as temperature and humidity, and how weather data is collected and analyzed.

Computer Science Teaching Association Standards (CSTA)
Students will model how computer hardware and software work together, organize and present collected data, create programs that use variables, and create programs that include sequences, events, loops, and conditionals.

Common Core ELA
Students will determine the meaning of unknown words, conduct short research projects about a topic, engage in collaborative discussions, and gather information from print and digital resources.

Common Core Math
Students will draw a graph to represent a data set.

Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
Students will represent data in tablets and graphical displays, make claims about the merit of a design solution that reduces the impacts of a weather-related hazard, and obtain and combine information to describe climates in different regions of the world.

Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
Students will listen actively, ask relevant questions to clarify information, and make pertinent comments. They will work collaboratively with others and develop and follow a research plan with adult assistance. Students will summarize a data set with multiple categories using a frequency table, dot plot, pictograph, and/or bar graph with scaled intervals.
