⦿ Mental health and Addiction often overlap. Which is also known as Comorbidity. Which means when conditions co-exist together. Which often means people with addictions, there is an underlying Mental health issue.
⦿ Even though we know that one condition doesn’t cause the other to happen, they both often coexist with each other. Both of these are considered chronic Brain disorders. Normally when someone is struggling with Mental Illness their brain is rewired and they tend to turn to addiction.
⦿ Another reason why this condition exists is because many people use substances to self- meditate, to stay calm, to maybe want to get rid of pain they are feeling. Or distract them from something they are going through. And they fall in love with the feeling so it leads to addiction
⦿Depression is a major cause for addiction
⦿Trauma can impact the brain and lead to addiction
https://www.verywellmind.com/co-occurring-disorders-mental-health-and-addiction-4158280
