Atticus Finch is a self-reliant and strong character from the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird. He represents the meaning of not just being a follower, as he defends a man from being wrongly accused because of his race. As the passage says," Trust thyself; every heart vibrates to that iron string." Atticus isn't afraid to stand up for what he believes is right, even if that means going against the views of his town and friends.

The song "I Will Survive" is heavily influenced by the passage because both delve into what it means to have to represent yourself. In the song, it talks about the singers change from being dependent to becoming independent and self-reliant, now standing up to what they were afraid of before. The song goes," Walk out the door.Just turn around now
,'Cause you're not welcome anymore. Weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye?Did you think I'd crumble?Did you think I'd lay down and die? Oh no, not I."
Both the song and the passage show how the writer to singer feel about how they were dependent, but now have become independent and see the problem with the way things were before, as shown in the passage with," Else, if you would be a man, speak what you think today in words as hard as cannon balls, and tomorrow speak what tomorrow thinks in hard work again, though it contradict everything you you said today."

Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest inventors and the real mind behind the light bulb is forgotten to larger names. His inventions and contribution to society are misunderstood and most forgotten, unable to acknowledge what he has done. As his mind weakened, many of his ideas were thrown out, although they could have helped advance technology years before. The passage states," To be great is to be misunderstood," and this represents Nikloa Tesla's claim to fame and his downfall as well.
