The Komodo dragon is the largest living lizard in the world, and it can only be found in Indonesia, especially on Komodo Island, Rinca, Flores, and a few smaller islands. This giant reptile can grow up to three meters long and weigh more than seventy kilograms. Komodo dragons are carnivorous animals, and they usually hunt deer, wild boar, and even water buffalo. They have a very strong sense of smell that helps them detect prey from a distance. Komodo dragons are also famous for their poisonous bite, which can weaken and kill their prey slowly. Even though they look very dangerous, Komodo dragons are also an important part of Indonesia’s natural heritage and are protected to prevent them from extinction.

Nama:nadhea aurora almadila (ix h)

          :eka Dewi Amelia(ix h)

Questions :

How much does a komodo dragon weight?

What do komodo dragons eat?

How long is a komodo dragon?

What kind of habitat do komodo dragons like?

Name 3 komodo dragons habits?

Giraffes are the tallest land animals on Earth. Their height ranges from 4.5 to 5.5 meters. And their weight ranges from 400 to 900 kilograms. They are easily recognized by their golden brown color with dark brown spots on their fur, which helps them blend with the savanna environment.

Giraffes are herbivores and mainly eat leaves and shoots, especially from acia trees. They are native to Africa and live in savannas and open woodlands, where they roam in search of food and water.

One of the most fascinating things about giraffes in their unique way of giving birth. They give birth standing up, and the newborn calf drops to the ground shortly after delivery - a surprising but natural part of their life cycle.

A giraffe's neck can grow up to 2.4 meters long. Giraffes have long necks to help them reach higher leaves in trees, which are their main food source and also to dominate in fights over females. Giraffes are truly majestic creatures and play an important role in maintaining the balance of their ecosystem.

Astri Febria Setiani / IX H

Shela Sabilla Ramadhani / IX H

Questions :

What is the average height of a giraffe?

How long can a giraffe's neck grow?

Why to giraffes have long neck ?

What to giraffes usually eat?

Were do giraffes live in the wild?

KOALA UNIQUE FACTS

Introduction

The koala, scientifically known as Phascolarctos cinereus, is an iconic Australian marsupial recognized worldwide. Often mistakenly called a "koala bear," it is not a bear at all but is more closely related to the wombat. Koalas are arboreal, meaning they spend most of their lives in trees, and are a critical part of Australia's unique ecosystem. They are a national symbol and feature prominently in the culture of Indigenous Australians.

Classification and Habitat

Koalas are mammals of the subclass Marsupialia, which are characterized by giving birth to undeveloped young that are then carried and nursed in a pouch. They are the sole living members of the family Phascolarctidae.

Koalas are native to eastern and southeastern Australia, inhabiting coastal and inland regions of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. Their survival is entirely dependent on the presence of eucalyptus forests and woodlands, which provide both their primary food source and their shelter. The quality and continuousness of their habitat are crucial for their well-being, as fragmented habitats make them vulnerable to predation and vehicle collisions.

Diet and Behavior

The koala's diet is highly specialized, consisting almost exclusively of eucalyptus leaves. While there are over 700 species of eucalyptus trees in Australia, a koala's diet is restricted to a very small number of species in its specific region, typically only one to three. This is because eucalyptus leaves are tough, fibrous, low in nutrition, and contain compounds that are poisonous to most other animals. Koalas have a specially adapted digestive system, including a long caecum, to detoxify these compounds and extract nutrients.

Because their diet provides very little energy, koalas have developed a sedentary lifestyle to conserve it. They are largely nocturnal and can sleep or rest for up to 20 hours a day. They get almost all the moisture they need from the leaves they eat, so they rarely need to drink water, except during periods of extreme heat or drought.

Conservation Status and Threats

Koala populations have faced a significant and rapid decline since European settlement. While koala populations in Victoria and South Australia are considered stable in some areas, the populations in Queensland, New South Wales, and the Australian Capital Territory were officially listed as endangered by the Australian government in 2022.

The primary threats to koala survival include:

Habitat Loss and Fragmentation: This is the most significant threat, driven by land clearing for agriculture, urban development, and logging. The destruction of their habitat forces koalas to live in smaller, isolated areas, increasing their risk of death.

Climate Change: Rising temperatures and more frequent and severe droughts lead to dehydration and a decrease in the nutritional quality of eucalyptus leaves. This also contributes to devastating bushfires that destroy their homes.

Disease: Koalas are highly susceptible to diseases like Chlamydia, which can cause blindness and infertility, further impacting their population.

Vehicle Collisions and Dog Attacks: As their habitats shrink, koalas are forced to move on the ground more frequently, making them vulnerable to accidents and domestic animal attacks.

Conclusion

The koala is a unique and beloved Australian species that is facing severe threats to its long-term survival. Its specialized diet and tree-dwelling lifestyle make it particularly vulnerable to environmental changes and human activity. Urgent and ongoing conservation efforts, including habitat protection and restoration, are essential to ensure the koala's future.

Juli Firmansyah 9H

Question:

1.
