MCPS also offers EEK (early entrance kindergarten for students who would like to enroll in school, but are younger than five at the cutoff date, which changes from year to year. AP (advanced placement) classes are also a popular choice for high school students in the county. Despite the research and evidence that indicate that grade based acceleration is a successful choice, I have not seen it in practice in MCPS.

Given this information, in MCPS:
1. How can we reorganize our classes and schools?
2. If a student already shows mastery of much of the grade level curriculum, what choices can we give them? We are already doing this with Math 4/5 and 5/6, to an extent. We are also already doing this in middle and high schools, but by that time, is it too late to make big foundational changes?
3. I have not seen grade skipping or radical acceleration. Telescoping is done, to an extent, with the math curriculum for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade being condensed into 4th and 5th grades. Acceleration allows us to "take off the brakes," so that students can learn at a pace that feels natural for them. Research shows that all forms of acceleration are successful, with the most successful being grade-skipping. Contrary to popular belief, research indicates that it does not cause social problems. Social issues should be addressed separately, is it is an issue.
