- From Berlin
Not surprisingly, American influence is seen throughout Germany in the form of American restaurant chains. This is a good example of one, Subway. Language plays a major role here, a mixture of English and German at American companies shows the understanding of English of multi-lingual Berlin. Perhaps in smaller cities, this isn't the case. After asking my host mom about American chains, she said she rarely goes to American fast food typically just having whatever Oma cooks. All-in-all, not as prevalent.

It also houses a collective of food-truck style eateries that serve everything from chicken nuggets to traditional African food. Social organization is seen here, this collection of stands and the beach bar YAAM represents counter-culture in Berlin. A huge cultural phenomenon in the U.S. is the concept of "farm-to-table." Germans take this quite literally, here is a vegetable garden at my host family that we eat from often at dinner.
