Desricption: I think I speak for everyone when I say that the speed at which we were covering the syllabus was absolutely abysmal. It even got to a point where we had to SELF-STUDY an entire topic for A-Math. It is simply ridiculous. Neighbouring schools at one point were 3 chapters ahead of us for both of our Science subjects. Now, because of the lack of time on our hands, we are blitzing through prelim papers and TYS (which is an extremely precious resource) with very shallow analysis afterwards. Quite literally, all the school has done in relation to ensuring academic success is the Study Skills workshop earlier this year and the recent Chemistry Olympiad (which, mind you, only came after tons of pressuring from students)

What the school can do: For a school that is supposed to be “the best in Pasir Ris”, we really should be focusing more on our academics. As of late, I feel as though the school’s efforts have been related to everything EXCEPT academics itself. The school can encourage students and teachers to be more fast-paced in our revision. If students can’t catch up, there’s always the consultation bookings.

In conclusion, I really do believe this school needs to buck-up its academic ventures. We are one of the very few schools that is doing the bare minimum to ensure academic success for students. Speaking from personal experience, words cannot describe how many times I have had my school ridiculed by friends from other neighbouring schools. If image is something you genuinely care about, I truly believe that this is the best pathway forward.

brief description: there are little play areas and even the current play areas are either too sunny/ not shaded or used for other PE lesson

I don't understand why there is a lack of play area. It is observable that volleyball is one of the more popular sports that students from all levels enjoy. Volleyball often times need bigger areas depending on the number of participants and is preferable to be played in shaded areas. However, students often times have to resort to smaller areas in between buildings or grass patches because there is no play areas which is shaded from the sun and not occupied by another class's PE lesson.

I believe that the hall is an area that can be considered to allow volleyball to be played in.

Fencing up lights/ fans can also be a safety measure to open up more areas for play such as the foyer.

Students may only have their PLD as their personal device and the schools should let students be responsible and manage their own time outside of school. It is understandable that the school manages the PLD during lesson times but the PLD becomes useless outside of school hours if the school is using mobile guardian to manage it 24/7. The school should give students more freedom outside of school as it is within the students scope of responsibilities to manage their time and workload which can help them develop soft skills.

description: i still dont understand why we arent allowed to wear school related/event tees to school. Last year at shakers and movers, this problem was already brought up but clearly it is not a topic that has been discussed. every other school allows their students to wear event tees to school. wearing event tees add a bit of spark to school life. i understand there is a concern that students might “feel left out” but literally every student in school has at least a class tee. its so sad that we have resorted to the commemorative tee as the only alternative school attire. i don’t understand how seeing the whole school having the same attire is better than seeing a sea of colours where students are able to wear shirts that identify them belonging to a specific group in school while STILL representing the school.

what the school can do: let us wear event/cca/class tees to school. it is not hurting anyone’s feelings in any way nor does it affect our learning.

description: we are literally sec 4s this year and we need the time to study.

“go out to study, there are tables” idk about the teachers but in case this observation has not been made, the benches area where there us HIGH and CONSTANT student traffic tend to be a really noisy area and is NOT conducive for studying. moreover spotify is blocked on our PLDs so we cant even block out the noise even if we wanted to.

“go to the library if its too noisy” : it takes awhile to go to the library and back to class when this time can be spent doing like 2 more questions. every minute counts. moreover, sometimes we are too locked in and dont notice the time and end up being late for class, then we’re late because we were studying

what the school can do: just let us be in class during recess. this should apply to every other level.

description: for a school who wants to encourage diversity and togetherness, the lack of the racial harmony day celebrations was to be frank, appalling. every other school allowed their students to don their ethnic attire, except our school. visiting downtown east the previous days were depressing as we got to see students from other schools all dressed up. to be honest, allowing students to wear their ethnic attire and sing some songs in the hall (not even performances or skits) is probably cheaper than the taxi fare the man from the heritage building took to get to our school. learning about food from other cultures off sls was honestly really sad but at least the food was good ill agree.

what the school can do:

As sec 4s we wouldnt be around next year but i implore you to allow the rest of the levels to wear their ethnic attires. what is preached in our school is not applied in our daily lives. last year when the filippino exchange students came to our school, we were allowed to dress up and a photobooth was even set up. when this year, barely anything was done to commemorate such an important date in singapore’s history, it really sent a message to the students that the school only care about their image when there are visitors and is fake to outsiders about school life in haising, instead of actually caring and being interested in making sure students can make memories in school.

brief description: on top of consultations, there should be days where classes stay back for remedial.

While consultation does encourage students to take charge of their own learning, it is not effective when students are not able to identify what they dont know or lack practice in. Instead of relying on the students to do everything (plan time to go for consultations), why not the school plan for remedial as a class. I believe last year's sec 4 cohort stayed back for remedial and they have proven it works through their academic success. Classes such as truth have so much to cover, hence i believe that these remedial would be beneficial for more than just Charity. Not every student is efficient in time management, by giving them the push to stay back to be in lessons can help them get a little further in their revisions and studies.

Since it is unreasonable to add on remedial lessons as there is little time to plan, I hope that you reconsider remedial lessons for future cohorts. This can benefit teachers who are slow on the syllabus and hope to catch up. Secondary 4 is about learning a few chapters in addition to reviving all the previous chapters from sec 1 to 3. If students still have extra troubles, they can consult their friends or use the extra time from remedial to ask

Bring back remedial lessons for future cohorts

description: there's already been a few posts about this but the fact that so many people have the same concern about this is seriously a problem. how can it be that the school doesn't have remedial or extra classes for sec 4 students taking national exam in less than 3 months. its ridiculous honestly to have students rely on consultation only. the teachers put so much emphasis on students struggling with subjects to sign up for consultations but if the student is struggling doesn't it show that they're not only struggling with work but the subject in general, how are they supposed to know what to ask when they struggle to keep up in class in the first place. and it's totally understandable why they would be lost in the first place bcs the tchers are flying through the syllabus without even bothering to teach, we didn't have an extra week of classes during holidays, we dont have afternoon classes, we literally end earlier than sec 1s on certain days. all the shool seems to be concerned about is "finishing the syllabus" but even when the students themselves ask for extra lessons we get replies from tchers like "i've seen how you guys self-study, you'll be fine without extra classes". that's crazy the fact that students are resorting to asking they're tchers to teach more and the tchers are saying no need. so many people from other schools are complaining about how their schools make them stay back but at least their schools care about them instead of always insisting on self-study. there's a reason why we go to school it's so we dont have to do everything ourselves and so we can get help easily but it really doesn't seem that way. even when the tchers pulled out students who were failing a certain number of subjects, all they did was put them in a room and told them to book consultations, did the school really think that would stop the students from failing. one last point, when we have hbl why is the school still insisting that sec 4s take part in sil, the concept of sil is good in general but sec 4 and 5s shouldn't be part of it, we're all spending as much time as possile trying to study and making them take part in smth like this even going to the extent of having them take part in the sil showcase happening in october (literally when we're all having o lvl exams alr) is not smth that should be happening at all.

actions: the school can really put in more effort into helping the students bcs always waiting for the students to approach is not helping anyone as much as the school wants it to. open up remedial classes again for struggling students, start afternoon programme again. show the graduating cohort that the school prioritises them and genuinely wants to help them in every way they can. don't always ask the students to approach first when they need help, tchers know more than students and some students really dont know what theyre doing wrong or right, we need the guidance. not trying to pin the blame on tchers bcs there are many tchers who go the extra mile but just generally saying the school needs to change.
