^{The Estates General was made up of the first estate which was the Church the second estate which was the nobles and the third estate which was the commoners. The first estate was one percent of the population and they also controlled ten percent of the land and they didn't have to pay taxes. The second estate was ten percent of the population and they also didn't have to pay taxes. The third estate was eighty-nine percent of the population and they had to pay taxes. The issue with this system was that the third estate were the only ones that had to pay taxes but they were also the poorest and the taxes got so bad they couldn't even afford things they needed and when it came to voting the first and second estate would always outvote the third estate because of population size. Then the National Assembly is something that allowed the French to receive proper representation. The upper estates wouldn't like this because it would mean they wouldn't always be able to outvote the third estate based on population. The tennis court oath happened when they locked the National Assembly doors so the third estate never made it in. The third estate then gathered at a tennis court that was nearby and started the tennis court oath.}

_{The storming of the Bastille created fear and the National Assembly was dissolved, the commoners believed this was an attack by King Louis XVI on their rights. Then soon after the commoners attempted to rise up against the soldiers at Bastille and they advanced in gaining weapons from the army and they also released political prisoners. The people marched on the Palace of Versailles because they were angry about the prices of things like bread and because of the rumor that Marie Antoinette is storing all the wheat. The people also blamed the Queen for spending too much money on luxuries and parties. It is somewhat justifiable because even though the people could of done it less destructively they were trying to do things that could help them because the Queen was wasting all of the countries money. The legislative government's purpose was to share power between the people and the Monarch. This government failed because they have never had a government without a monarchy. The First Republic was lead by Robespierre and this starts the Reign of Terror. During this time there were many people killed by the Guillotine.}

_{The directory is made up of the upper estate which accepts or rejects what is proposed by the lower house which proposed the legislative government. The struggle with the directory was that it became corrupt very quickly. Napoleon was a military genius that invades and attempted to colonize Egypt. He also conquers Austria, Prussia, Portugal, and Spain and he used the continental system to weaken England in war. The political changes he brought was the Napoleonic Code which simplified the laws in France, he eliminates the Estate System, allows freedom of religion, restores centralized government to France, increases reforms in education, improves relations with Pope, and he sells territory in North America to the United States to help fund campaigns. The legacy that Napoleon left behind was France dominating Continental Europe, he installed his own rulers of conquered nations, and he made his brother the King of Spain.}
