I think it was at our best early on and then it faded more and more year after year. I liked the stinger ticket concept but I didn't think the incentive for the kids was the best we can do. I recall also a phone call home program where we called home to let parent/guardians know about their student getting caught being Safe, Responsible and Respectful. That took a large amount of time however.

I have never been apart of a SWPB program at a school. Being a first year teacher in a specialized area, I thought it would be a great way to collaborate with other staff outside of my department while helping to create a more positive school environment for students and staff alike.

Like Craig mentioned, Stingers seem to be something HW is currently implementing. To add, I think the various spirit days for staff and students is a way of trying to build morale.

I think to start we should work on building an awareness and universal knowledge as to what the SWPB program is as well as our goals. Maybe we could start by creating some kind of slogan or motto of 3-4 positive behaviors that are expected of students at all times. From this we can create different activities in addition to Stingers that have incentives for displaying these behaviors.

Hopewell is my first experience with SWPB programming. SWPB started with the creation of lesson plans that we used at the beginning of each year to set expectations for behavior in different areas of our school. These lessons created the opportunity for consistency of expectations and the language used to reinforce those expectations, and sets a positive tone for the remainder of the school year, so they are ESSENTIAL to our success. Another aspect of SWPB are the stingers too. I wonder whether students fully understand how stingers work and the benefits of them, but we can teach them.

SWPB is at its best when staff members are consistent with expectations and the language used to enforce these expectations, and when were are seeking out and emphasizing positive situations/opportunities/interactions with students/peers/staff.

I definitely feel we need other incentives besides stingers - something students can see, understand and use for motivation on a more frequent basis. No idea what that could be though.
