Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Californication

Red Hot Chilli Peppers used chroma key as they wanted the music video to be unrealistic and make things seem real which aren't possible. It also allows them to record the music video cheaper/easier as filming in certain areas will be hard to do and a green screen just simplifies it.

Adele - Rolling in the deep

In Adele's music video the main technique used is impressionist. Impressionist means focusing on small details and conveying the mood to the audience. In the music video the whole atmosphere comes across as anger as at the end you see objects being destroyed and a model off a possible city being burnt down. This shows Adele's mood and how she might feel about certain things and displays her anger really well.

Rihanna - Disturbia

Rihanna uses Interpretation in her music video by having a bunch of different meanings in her music video. The main message I got from this music video was that she has gone crazy and wants to control people as mentioned in her lyrics and her actions in the video. Another meaning I got from this is her trying to escape from her craziness problem as in parts of the music video it seems like she is trapped in by a prison cell and by Rihanna holding her head showing that she is trapped.

This week for Unit 12 we were shown a variety of different music videos. In task 2 for Unit 12 we looked at the history of the 60s, 70s ,80s and 90s and what was popular and the style in that time. We took notes and had a discussion on why music videos had changed overtime. We then were set the task for homework to describe and explain one controversial music video in the 60s-90s era and one popular music video in the 60s-90s era. I have already chosen my two music videos I am going to use so now I just need to compare them and explain why they are successful music videos.

For task 4 I had to find music videos that displayed techniques such as: Live footage, Interpretative, Narrative, Impressionist, Surrealist, Parody and Influence of commercials. I defined the techniques and then explained why the music video is successful. I think this went well as it gives me ideas for what techniques I might want to use for my music video and prepare me for my pitch.
