I think the setting contributes to the mood in the poem because the house looks run down and spooky which gives it a spooky setting. It also has memory's which give it a happy and loving mood. Where the house is in the story also gives it a spooky feeling. I bet that someone has died there and no one has lived there since.

The old, broken down house with a tangled garden ( which was probably growing over the dyke ) sets a lonely, abandoned mood. The house might have memories; it might not. But if house looks as sad and alone as the poem describe it, it may only have memories of sad events. Maybe someone was lost there. Maybe a family left abruptly. Whatever happened, the house is lonely and gives a sad, old, desolate mood.

The setting contributes to the story because because of the house gloomy nature the house gives off very sad vibes. For an example on the second page of the poem it says the house has a broken heart. Now i could be wrong but i believe this shows that the house misses having company.

Well, when you first begin to read the poem you can feel that dark, sad, depressing setting the, "shingles broken and black" but, it was a house once, it still is it's just and old house yes it looks dark and shattered but there were once peaceful, loving, affectionate memories being made. Now, those memories rest inside the house as the mood, but with a dark and edgy setting
from the appearance outside of the house.

We can tell that the house is very old because, in the poem, the author states that the house is broken down and falling apart. This contributes to the mood of the poem because as the author describes the house, it is gloomy. The setting is also dark, because the author says things like, "I wish the house was haunted", and, "I think the house wouldn't be so lonely if it had a ghost or two."

How does the setting contribute to the mood? Well without the setting you can`t get a feel were the character is or what they are they doing.
