Immigrating from South Africa to New Zealand. This was a hard decision to make. Resistance in the change was to leave everything, including family behind, and begin a new life in another country. Benefits of this change: Improvement in the children's education and safety and also better career opportunities in which our experiences was recognised.
'Without change things stay the same and will ultimately stagnate. Without change there is no adventure in life. It takes much more energy and effort to resist change than it does to accept it. Its much easier to embrace change than to fight it.`

With the proposal for tertiary education next year, I have two options, stick my head in the stand and keep going or change and up skill so I can earn more money with the knowledge I have.
Benefits, I understand terms when management talk to us about bottom line and KPI, I’m on their playing field now with my new found knowledge.
I also branched out and work in Health Care so I have a back up income and also I study for that and upskill when possible. I’m a winner either way as I will earn more money once I have qualifications and I have increased my knowledge in two new fields.

When the company I worked with closed down and 200 plus of us got redundant. At that very moment I felt so sad and frustrated for so many reasons. I felt sorry for the company who not only our workplace but most of us call it our second home and became our comfort zone. At that point in life, I felt shattered not knowing where to begin especially that both me and my husband worked for the same company. Both being jobless and with our little baby, life seemed to be miserable. At that very instance, I couldn't see any benefits that it happened. But human as we are, we need to embrace the reality and pick up those pieces and try to make it whole.
Time has passed and realised a lot of things and understand things why it happened. We've moved on from it.
I can see lots of benefits now: we both work and in different companies and with the chosen work and path, it gave us the opportunity to be better and able
work outside our comfort zone.
Candice Tabil

A few years ago my main role in the finance team was accounts payable admin. The powers that be chose to implement a new electronic purchase order system. Initially I was skeptical and resistant - my main resistance was due to the increased workload: meeting with IT support to help design; develop and implement training programme for staff - all while continuing business as usual...
But the reality was - it was going to happen and I was actually lucky to be given the opportunity to be involved and lead the implementation.
Implementation was a battle some days (and since doing this paper I understand why :) - we lacked that senior leadership and support). But when the new system was up and running the benefits were numerous.
- Accurate financial rpts timely
- Budget awareness
- record of why delays to payments occurred, this allowed focus support to be given
- Delegated auth to budgets was electronic
- all prompts and invoices had an electronic trail so invoices were never lost
