As a senior at Grand Canyon University, I am struggling to balance these obligations as I am hastily approaching graduation. With this upcoming milestone, plans for the future demand immediate attention and are the cause of frequent and consistent stressors.

There are a lot of general ways to manage stress such as an emotion-focused and problem-focused approach. According to Sarafino and Smith (2017), an emotion focused approach aims at controlling the emotional response to stress through cognitive and behavioral reactions, while a problem-focused approach aims at adjusting the demands of a stressor and relying on resources to deal with it. Generally, relaxing practices such as meditation and physical activity such as Yoga, tend to increase a sense of personal control and encourage my optimism and resilience.

Sarafino and Smith (2017) describe coping as a process where people attempt to manage the perceived discrepancy between demands and resources in a stressful situation. They offer two different ways to cope based off the emotion focused and problem focused approaches. When faced with stress, I generally rely on faith. I am able to control my emotional response due to my beliefs and trust in God's plan. A bible verse that encourages this response is Jeremiah 29:11 which states, " For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
