         <description><![CDATA[<div>Sojourner Truth was born into slavery. She was one of at least 12 children. The Baumfree family was owned by Colonel Hardenbergh and then by his son, Charles when the Colonel died. Sojourner escaped with her daughter but her son and othe daughter stayed behind. Sojourner found out that her son had been illegally sold out as a slave and she took it to court. She was the first black woman that successfully challenged a white man in a United States court.</div>]]></description>
