when all the senators were huddled together in that panic room, I have to know what kinds of conversations they were having, knowing half the room has basically been encouraging this kind of behavior for months. I was watching CBS interview Kevin McCarthy republican minority leader of the house and I just know at that moment he was scrubbing his twitter of all the riot inciting he's probably been doing. can't believe they're trying to pin this all on antifa

I think it's wild that it happened at all. I didn't think that with how devoted trump supporters are to the traditional aspects of America that they'd storm the Capitol. Why would they think that's a good idea in the first place, I dunno.

What were they trying to prove? America is a country that many other nations looked up to... now other nations must laugh as this is extremely embarrassing. How can Trump encouarge this sort of behavior. Smh

I hate how some news cites are still calling these rioters and domestic terrorists "protesters" its because it was a vastly white group that was invading the capital. Also, where was the tear gas and rubber bullets that the police so brutally used on actual peaceful protests in the BLM movement. Its a blatant example of how racist our society is.

the rioting yesterday was disturbing. not necessarily surprising; the fact that it wasn't surprising really only adds to exactly how distressing this is.

a career related to criminal justice is something i have wished to pursue for years now. as of the last several months, that want has been challenged, repeatedly. i find myself in a state of privilege with that; i didn't have to worry or think all too much about this until the past 9 months. i am a marginalized person, but not for the visible color of my skin, and i am lucky for that. and the fact that other people in my exact same situation don't have that luck for the same reason is disturbing. it's no longer shocking, now becoming educated on the united state's history and relationship with POC and marginalized communities.

what does feel shocking is knowing exactly how nasty some people i previously thought of as good, kindhearted people can be over "politics". i know not all of them are inherently bad; there are those who are misled or simple don't understand. it isn't an excuse, but it is a reason, and the last four years have brought out a lot of that from people i previously trusted everything with, and i can only feel sympathy for those who have lived with such their entire lives, and most of the population has turned a blind eye to, including myself until recently.

even more shocking was seeing people like my own, waving queer/LGBTQ+ flags at a "protest" that was still more than an angry scream for ideals rooted in racism, fascism, white supremacy and bigotry entirely. it's difficult to pin those in a community you feel is "safe" as potential dangers, to people within their own community. these ideals, unfortunately, don't exist in a vacuum, and they can't always be ignored.

and even though it wasn't shocking anymore, it was saddening to watch how calmly the rioters that trump, whether consciously or unintentionally, incited with his words, were treated by law enforcement. not entirely to say that people should have died, or been severely hurt; i think wishing death on anyone is often cruel; but to say that mostly peaceful protestors who were fighting for the lives of brothers and sisters in communities, for friends and families who were struck with unneeded tragedy, who were rallying to protect real, human lives, regardless of past criminal status, were met with tear gas and broken limbs and black eyes, while MAGA supporters, the vast majority of who were white, were allowed to break into the capitol at a super spreader event and were allowed far enough to nearly break into deliberating rooms, and yet only 13 people were arrested; because their party didn't win, and they're now trying to pin it on ANTIFA "dressing up" as MAGA rioters while they refused to believe the same could be said about their own in the BLM protests.

i don't think trump will be indicted for any inciting of violence. the standard of such without violating the first amendment is high; it's up to other's to determine if it's too high or not. but regardless, it was an event he caused, intentionally or not, and never genuinely condemned. when people were angry about the loss of george floyd, breonna taylor and countless other black lives, and riots broke out, trump used the phrase "when the looting starts, the shooting starts." when white MAGA supporters broke into the capitol, disrupting an important process, leading two possible explosives to be disarmed and one person supposedly attempting to burn the ballots, trump said "we love you." "you're all very special people." "we understand how you're feeling."

and when the truth of the matter is that this is no longer surprising or shocking, the only appropriate word for it is "disturbing".
