Teaching and learning in the country focuses on providing the ordinary citizen that enabling environment that will promote the acquisition of skill necessary to develop one's potential of become a responsible and productive citizen.
My personal vision of education seeks to create, assist and training a motivated and passionate learner to take responsibility of their own learning situation which naturally complement and support the national vision for socio-economic growth and development.
This requires a frantic effort of the 21st century teacher to promote teaching-learning environment which support and sustain learner innovativeness, critical thinking and creativity in teaching and learning process. If today's classroom does not sparkle critical thinking and innovative approaches to create ideas and lifelong knowledge, the national vision suffers.
This is the classroom I would want to see;
A full digitized classroom equipped with state of the art ICT facilities for lifelong learning.
A classroom where learner(s) do not see learning as punishment but a platform to engage diverse views and foster collaboration.
A classroom where multimedia is a necessity and must have learning tool and not a mere option to the teaching and learning process.
A classroom where learners can interact with primary data to make informed research decisions to solve nationl problems.
A classroom where information gateway is readily accessible to learners and teachers for collaborative and meaningful engagement.
A classroom where teacher is not central focus but a guide to facilitate the learning process.

I would like to see a classroom that will reflect sufficient resources that will facilitate all learning and teaching processes. I would like to see a class that will effectively meet the needs of all the learners regardless of their intellectual capabilities.  Learning should be in such a way that a learner is put at the center.There should be constant collaboration between teachers parents and managers.

I would like to see the lecturers and student 

Having access to learning  and teaching materials.

The lecturers should nurture and mentor the students 

2. Manageable class sizes of say 40 pupils per class. The teacher-pupil ratio has been ballooning in my country of late.

3. Teachers acting as facilitators/guides rather than spoon-feeding learners. Classrooms in a majority of cases have been places where learners are ‘encouraged’ to memorise ideas i.e. rote learning in order for the learners to pass tests and examinations. Education should be provided so that learners solve real life problems and should be for life.

4. Learners should be taught as individuals and not as a group as they have unique capabilities 

Classrooms need to be more child friendly, very conducive with every corner portraying a teaching aid. Students and teachers should be actively involved in teaching and learning. 

In a classroom i would like to see both students and teachers interacting to each other either in groups or whole class discussion. thus allowing students to do their own research and come out with findings.

Again, teachers assigning roles to students to arrange seat into different formations to make the classroom conducive for learning a particular concept.

Students being introduced to various multimedia applications to enable them satisfy their learning styles. 
In a classroom, students should be assessed continually by the teacher in throughout the course in different assessment methods such as project works, assignments, exercises etc.

I would like to see these changes in our classrooms:

1.       Teachers must see themselves as facilitators and the not repository of knowledge. When teachers become facilitators they will make teaching become to a large extent learner centered.

2.       Our classrooms should be technology friendly. There is over-reliance on printed materials. Classrooms should be designed such that they allow teachers to use technological tools like projectors and computer in their teaching. The use of technology in education is largely limited to the getting information to prepare lesson notes and not in actual teaching. 

The architectural curriculum should also be reviewed to remove pedagogical barriers and strip away newly introduced general courses that weigh down on students course loads. This will help better prepare students for the world of professional practice after graduating. 

I would like to see the teacher and his/her students in a comfortable environment and interacting freely.

From Uganda

Training students to only pass exams is what I want to see changed in Uganda. The curriculum here is exam driven than holistic individual development.

If I piped in the window, I would want to see the learners and the teacher openly sharing and learners taking the lead in the process as the teacher just facilitates.

More Infrastructures need to be put in place to ease overcrowding in classrooms, more staff need to be recruited to ease course overloads among teachers, there should be adequate provision for teacher training and skills acquisition. This will motivate teachers and serve as an avenue to make the teaching profession inviting to those outside the profession. In quantity surveying profession, lots of people prefer practicing on the field to teaching the course in classrooms as they believe they cannot be paid enough if the opted to teach. 

I live and work in Kafanchan, Nigeria as a lecturer with the Kaduna State University. I lecture at the department of architecture. Generally, infrastructure is a major challenge with regards to classrooms in my country. Classroom spaces are overstretched due to the number of students per classroom hence it is quite difficult to communicate and create positive interactive teaching sessions.

In classrooms, I would like to see a compressed classroom situation where group conversations and interaction will take place with the aid of virtual media. This should also lead to a coordinated feedback mechanism that would be put in place by the teacher in dialoguing with the students.  

I am Hannah Nayoga Hanifa from Uganda working with Enabel on a teacher training education project. I hold the view of many of my classmates here especially on the things that need to change in teacher education.

Particularly from my point of view the following should change:

Focus on content instead of pedagogy has to change as the national teacher training institutions are building teachers 

The attitude of teacher trainers has to change because they tend to be negative towards the changes coming up yet teacher education has to change according to the needs of society

The curriculum also has to change to cater for changes coming up daily e.g use of ICT and active teaching and learning has to be incorporated in the curriculum

As part of teacher training, there should also be a safe learning environment for teacher trainees with good classrooms

The numbers of students in a classroom also has to improve and this points to need for more classroom and teachers so as to improve the pupil: teacher ratio.

I will love to see an interactive class in Nigeria with the appropriate staff/students ratio. An enhanced audio visual and visual 🤬 to be fully adopted and utilized. Most importantly a holistic review of our national policy on education to capture global best practice.  

I would like to see more highly skilled and passionate teachers with very rich contents. To aid effective delivery of contents, I would like to see appropriate learning tools such as projectors, smart boards, e.t.c Also, more practical activities, interactive classroom sessions and diversity in learning environments as to monologue during learning sessions will be a good change. I also believe that the classroom structure if diversified will make learning outcomes better. Lastly, a change in the staff/students ratio is a much needed change as the number of students are sometimes beyond the reach of the teacher.

What needs to change is: the teacher having monopoly of knowledge while the students are recipients. Students ingesting information without interrogating or questioning the teacher. 

There should be an exploration environment, whereby students are always seeking to explore new ideas and coming up with innovative ideas. 

I would wish to see a class where the teacher is facilitating the students’ innovation. 

2.       The government has needs to encourage the teaching of Inclusive education across all the subjects despite the introduction of Computer studies in school. I feel it should be encouraged for these 21^ST learners so that learning should not only take place in class but everywhere as long as there is internet.

3.       Learners need to learn through the use of ICTs both in class and outside class (Flipped classroom). The teacher should not be always use ‘Teacher-centered method’ but ‘learner-centered method’

Uganda is currently embracing active teaching and learning, that was launched in National Teachers' Colleges sponsored by Enabel a Belgium based NGO ( Soon on its way to Universities ). Policies at different levels of education are under development.
