A lot of parents don’t let their kids play video games because they see all of these studies by some doctors showing that it does damage to the brain. Did you know that most of these studies are actually conducted on pro gamers or people that play games for 5-7 hours a day? We all know that too much of anything is bad. Seriously, high doses of broccoli can actually be toxic. So if you binge and do nothing but play video games the risks probably outweigh the benefits. Having said that, many studies have shown more cognitive function in the brain after playing video games. Actually one of these studies has had participants play Super Mario for 30 minutes a day for 2 months. After the time period, the test subjects showed an improvement in strategic planning, memory, and hand-eye coordination. Surprisingly, strategy and RPG (Role Playing Games) can increase attention to detail in individuals. Other studies have found improvements in eyesight in these players, they can read tiny text and differentiate the smallest details between two photographs. A study from a Melbourne university shows that kids who play violent games such as Call Of Duty have a harder time paying attention and those who play strategy and RPGs such as The Legend of Zelda or Super Mario have improved in their focus and are now able to overcome challenges without frustration. 

Now yesterday we talked for a little while and you guys said you guys would rather want me to play on a PS4 because it would be on the big screen and it would be better for my eyes. I agree with you guys 100% however I would also like to get a handheld console meaning that I can take it with me around. Now the best solution for this is for me to get a Nintendo Switch. Not a Switch Lite but a Normal Switch. Why? The Nintendo Switch is popular and many people have one. I could be trading games with Gece or other people. Also, the Switch has a feature that you can place it in it’s charging port and connect it to the TV and play with a controller that comes in the box. When you unbox one of these consoles you get:
  • An HDMI cable
  • A charging cable
  • The switch itself
  • 2 joycons
  • A controller with places to slide in the joycons
  • The charging port
  • A bracelet for the controllers.

You guys might be worried about my eyesight and how close to the screen I am and as I mentioned above I can connect it to a TV. This is a huge advantage but also the 2 joycons that are on the side of the Switch actually are detachable so I can take them off and prop the switch on a surface since it has a little leg on the back to hold it. Now the Switch Lite is much cheaper than the normal Switch and here’s why- first off the joycons are not detachable so that takes away the option of me being able to play on the TV. I can’t play with friends and I can’t let it sit on a table. On the Nintendo Switch there are many free games that you can download! There aren’t many games that interest me on the playstation, only some of the sports games like NBA2K20 which you can play on the Nintendo. There is an application that you can download on your phone to limit gameplay time, what games I can play, online interactions, and you can go into the app anytime you want to see what I was doing and playing.

I would only be playing games such as Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, or NBA2K20 games without violence. I would only be allowed to play sometimes on the weekends after I have done all my responsibilities, on special occasions and during the holidays, I can play for 30 minutes at those times. If I don’t follow these rules you are allowed to take my console away for however much you think is fair. I think having a console will show you that I am responsible and that I can balance my time out wisely. On the page I am about to hand to both of you, I have a chart with all of the rules that I have listed above. I hope this has convinced you enough, thank you for listening, any questions?

Playing times:

  • Holidays, not everyday, 1-2 times a week 30 minutes maximum after doing all my work
  • Road Trips/Travelling 45 minutes maximum after reading and doing my work

Games that are allowed to be played:
  • Pokemon
  • Super Mario
  • Legend of Zelda
  • And more but they have to be without any violence 

If I break any of the rules, my console is allowed to be confiscated for as long as needed.
