Like many others, Google search has a large impact in my day to day life. Not only does it provide me with any knowledge I might need, if I require a specific service or product, I feel confident that google will be able to guide me towards it.

Audacity is a sound engineering application. It can read and convert audio files from .wavs to .mp3s, add special effects to audio, and it can record sounds for you to use. Although Audacity is free, it is a good quality application and is powerful considering you’re paying for it. 

 

I would use Audacity to edit audio files or to convert them into a compatible file for a different application, such as iMovie. I would also record my music playing to listen to how I play, and to decide if I want to change my technique if I don’t like how I sound. 

 

The MyTransLink App is a public transport mobile application used in South East Queensland and other select areas of Queensland. It provides information about planning travel, notifications of service interruptions and events and fare costs.

 

Deezer is a music streaming application that can be used on mobile devices and computers. It provides a service whereby the user can choose and listen to virtually any song, album and podcast.

 

Visual Studio Code is an editor that is used to write source code across many different languages. It is used by software developers to enhance the creation of software applications and includes many capabilities that are community generated to write good code.

Netbank is an easy to use application for internet banking with Commonwealth Bank.

You can link your utility bills so you have the convenience or paying bills all with the touch of a button saving you a lot of time and effort.

I personally use Discord a lot, for both gaming and family social networking, and it can also be used for study/work communication, allowing for easy group connectivity.

Family and friend sharing can be set up quite easily, allowing calendar syncs for all members. This can also be used on a professional front for collection and back up of all work related materials.

Dropbox is a secure file hosting service that I use constantly throughout each day. Files can be accessed from an app on the phone to a desktop computer. All my files are kept there, up to 2TB for a very low cost. Additional storage is readily available for an extra cost. 

 

Whilst all of my files (ranging from hundreds of technical manuals to my favorite recipe for meatloaf) are cloud based it also has synchronization keeping the same files up-to-date on all devices, that way they are also available when I am offline.

I use this application daily, both at work and at home. It’s a convenient way to contact other departments and stay up to date on work related notices, and for personal use it helps me keep track of relevant information concerning my studies and any other services I have my email linked to. It can also be used for time management and scheduling appointments and meetings.

Xero is a cloud based accounting software platform. This is the accounting software I use at work and I prefer it over MYOB. It is modern, looks prettier, extremely user friendly and syncs seamlessly with our CRM system. It can integrate with other applications and offers features that benefit any industry. I notice no one really likes to get bogged down with accounting/bookkeeping matters but since Xero makes it easier and quicker, you can focus more on the fun stuff. 

 

It also has critical student information, such as medical information and emergency contact details with risk management documentation attached to student files. Compass can manage late arrivals and early departures of students’ attendance data. 

Sharefile is an online file sharing and storage program that allows you to securely store, send and collaborate on any file you like. Struggling to send large files to friends or work colleagues then simply upload them to sharefile and either send them a link to download or allow them access to particular folders so you collaborate on documents in real time. Sharefile also allows you to access your files from any where on any device in a secure environment. 

MOODLE LMS is an open source learning platform that enables the creation of private learning space online. It allows you to build your multimedia content with full support for all students, following common accessibility standards. It uses integrated accessibility checking tools when adding and editing your text.

With Stats IQ it has statistical analysis functionality that lets you analyse your data. I have used this to build two assessments to analyse the information management functionality in business systems and assess the best option to turn analogue approval processes into fit for purpose digital processes.

As a supplier using the platform, it is a complete toolkit that allows me to book jobs with our photographers Australia wide. It has a drag and drop calendar function (which also links to Google calendar) so I can see the full availability of all photographers. It also has the functionality to calculate travel times to assist in scheduling. I can setup specific work areas for each staff member, and send notifications of bookings (and any changes to them) to all people involved in the job- i.e., photographer, agent, agents assistant and the vendor if necessary. I use AWS daily with my teams as a production, staging and test and POC landing zone for hosting applications.

When working with APIs, particularly when writing an application proof of concept (POC) I’ll use Postman heavily to map out my API calls.

Spotify is a media streaming platform that enables you to access music and podcasts along with other forms of media. You can choose between a basic version of Spotify that is free but contains advertisements or the premium version that cost around $12 per month that does not contain the advertisements. Spotify allows you to download music to your devices so that you can access your music even if you do not have access to the internet.

I use Spotify on my phone whether my phone is connected through the car to listen to music while driving or just through my phone’s speaker.

 

OneDrive is a cloud like service that allows you to store and access files and personal information, you are able to synchronize these files across multiple devices such as android, windows phones, ios mobile devices, windows and mac os pcs as well as the xbox360 and xbox one consoles.

I use one drive to store important documents such as a copy of my diploma and some not so important documents such as a copy of our list of Blu-rays, this enables me to have access to these documents where ever I may be for example if we want to check if we have a particular movie on Blu-ray while at the shops.

I use Fudget to manage my own personal budget. I've tried a few different budgeting and personal finance applications but Fudget is my favourite due to the clean and simple interface and the fact that it syncs to all of my devices.

Team Speak is an online chat tool, allowing users to use voice communication or text communication.

Team Speak allows users to set up private chat's or group chat's as well as the ability to allow certain people to speak in certain groups and disallowing others. Files and folders are also able to be shared privately or publicly allowing all or certain users to access the files being shared.

Team Speak is free however in order to host your own Team Speak server a payment is required, the amount of users allowed into the Team Speak server will vary the price.

I used this application everyday listening to music.  There is 50 million songs on this service and it is very simple to always find something to listen to. You can play music on demand or listen to curated playlists from the device or streamed. Apple Music also feature internet radio functionality

Discord is a free voice and text chat application that has become the go-to application for gamers and the like without having to pay a premium for servers. Monday.com is a project management tool which enables teams and individuals to organise, plan and visualise projects and upcoming tasks. It can not only be used by teams but also to structure personal things like studies or other day-to-day tasks. I use it in my professional life as well as for scheduling learning plans and keep track of assignment dates.

Steam is a video game digital distribution platform developed by Valve Corporation. It's also a community portal where you can chat with friends to see what they're playing, share screenshots and videos, and play both cooperative and competitive multiplayer games. I use steam mostly to play video games and connect with friends through the chat feature. I have also used the market and store to purchase new games and sell/buy skins.

 

Google Maps is a web mapping service developed by Google. It offers satellite imagery, aerial photography, street maps, 360° panoramic views of streets, real-time traffic conditions, and route planning for travelling by foot, car, bicycle and air, or public transportation. Google maps is an important work resource for me. It gives me the directions to places I need to go and lets me know how long it will take to get there.

 

ANZ online banking helps me keep track of my personal bank account. Manage my personal loan repayments and make bill payments through their website. Having the convenience of online banking saves time, especially when the branches close at 4pm and with work I am rarely finished in time to make the bank.

Excel was a large part of my working life. A vast range of data was displayed in easy to read formats including visual formats like graphs or organised formats like tables. Furthermore with utilising Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) Excel was used (and I know is used by many others) to automate repetitive tasks (such as checking a client’s annual data for 10 different years), organising and sorting data and either performing updates autonomously or capturing relevant data and displaying it in an user friendly fashion (mostly designed for end users or non-IT professionals). 

I use OneNote to archive research notes, snippets and references. I use it to write down plot-bunnies and any brain-farts that might prove useful to me down the line. I have utilized a variety of these applications in my line of work operating water treatment plants, potable water networks, sewerage transfer and treatment plants day to day. Dependent on the infrastructure, inherited legacy of assets (standard of build from previous standards/budgets/project decisions), limitations to networks in addition to usability of the application. All of the above software applications are SCADA Systems. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisitions. Not only do they allow a interface between an operator and equipment/instrumentation for control purposes. But they collect data. From this data, alarms may be constructed to ensure faults are identified, water quality parameters are met. These are all fine tools to indicate to an operator the quality of product achieved. Performance capabilities and performance of equipment and assets. Diagnostics may be run from these systems and the instance of events. Meaning the general patterns of equipment operation which may also be used to diagnose faults that do not have alarms constructed. The possibilities are endless depending on the applications ability. Highly efficient and automated commands upon flow reaching a certain control point limit may be programmed in. Allowing operators to focus on other areas of a system or infrastructure network where common tasks may be a draw from their overall workload. The use of PID loops to maintain a Set Point (such as the ph of a product) may be constructed in this software. These systems may my job far easier and supply risk controls where water quality is paramount for drinking water supply. Without them, I would have to attend site and manually control. Efficiency would be limited, mistakes may be made and the workforce strained.

Chrome is my go to internet browser. I use google chrome for all my web browsing. One thing I particularly love about chrome is how quick you can google search anything, just simply type it into the address bar and it searches. 

Skype

Skype is a useful online application for connecting with people. One of the best features about It is that you can group call multiple people. This is helpful for collaborating with others. 

Twisted Gorilla also comes with a buyer’s app that is linked to the provider. The customer logs into their account on the buyer’s app and it provides a fully customised ordering system and allows buyers to make their order and view their invoices online. 

I personally use this app almost every day as I work with my partner who owns a fruit and vegetable wholesale business. We deliver to more than 100 businesses around Melbourne and the greater Melbourne area. As the business began to grow, we could no longer keep track of orders using our paper system and Twisted Gorilla has been a powerful tool in managing our business. 

As I am currently employed in the Property Valuation industry, this app allows us to create a diagram of an average house with the aid of a laser measure within the space of 5 minutes, drastically cutting down the amount of time required in both prep-work and onsite inspection. 

As the system integrates between both Tablet (Android & IOS) and Windows, with options for data to be stored on the Cloud and instantly available between both platforms, this allows our Field Valuers to provide Diagrams and Floor Layouts of properties they value to our Office team in near real-time, cutting down the average turnaround time of each job dramatically by removing much of the delay caused by travel time.

I use pmts from m-tech systems for work we have to enter daily mortality/feed/weight of the chickens and at the end of the batch we print out the reports very useful as you can then compare previous batches and see where you can improve

 I use the google chrome browser both on my phone and computer to view websites on the internet. It is also handy as it can view PDF and also save a lot of websites as PDFs to be able to view offline later.

 I use this take photos but it comes in handy as I can take pics of information from screens or book pages that I may keep on my phone or google drive for use later.

In the business area I work in we use Confluence literally every day.  We use it to provide information to others about our services and how to engage us as well as current projects and their status. We also use it to keep information about internal processes and contact information that our team uses to manage our work. 

I use Mifit every day.  In conjunction with smart scales and a fitness tracker to make sure that I got enough sleep during the week, to see how many calories I've burned in a day, my heart rate is normal and that my bodyfat mass, muscle mass are heading in the right direction.
