Heathcliff is cruel traumatizes young Linton and is cruel to wife Isabella as well as Hareton and young Cathy- He has a plot to inherit Edgar's money through their children's marriage as revenge for Catherine choosing Edgar. Throughout all of that, he is haunted by Catherines ghost- the ghost of his lost love, who died hating him, reminding him of his childhood trauma. Similar to Frankenstein’s creature, Heathcliff has been rejected for his appearance. However, unlike Frankenstein’s creature, his actions are purely vengeful. The creature, though he cares to an extent about revenge, will be satiated with a partner. Heathcliff does try to win Catharine back, but his cruelty is more to make others suffer, and would likely still be cruel to Linton even if he somehow ended up with Catharine. He is cruel to everyone, like Hareton, not just those who hurt him.
