This is one that my colleagues and I actually did in our Applied Exploration course. We had students choose a location on this planet where they might want to live in the future. We used the project as a framework to teach about various science, social studies, and English standards.
Science: How does climate change affect the area? How has human settlement in the area affected local ecosystems? How do processes such as erosion affect homes in the area?
Social Studies: What type of government does the area have? Economy? How does socioeconomic status and cost of living affect the area? Citizenship laws? Immigration?
English: What does a quality resource look like? What are great questions when interviewing someone? Can a student produce an argumentative piece to describe why they would want to (or not want to) live in the area?
