Summary + Review of Penguin Pete By Airianna

   Summary of Penguin Pete

One day a penguin named Pete wanted to grow up so that he could swim, but that wasn’t working. Soon after, a flock of birds landed on a patch of ice. He tried to fly like Steve, his bird friend, but that wasn’t working either. Soon enough, the flock had to leave. So Pete’s mother decided to cheer him up by letting him swim. Then when he gets back to the surface, he falls asleep before he can tell his mother about what he did, and he dreams of him, Steve, and swimming.

                                                       Review

My name is Airianna and here’s my review of Penguin Pete, I hope you enjoy! So a little summary of what happens in the book. Pete wants to swim, but he still has to grow, because he doesn’t have waterproof feathers. Later a flock of birds lands on an ice patch Pete likes to skate on. One of the birds, Steve, tries teaching him how to fly, but Pete can’t. Soon enough, the flock leaves, and Pete’s mother lets him swim. And in the end, Pete is done swimming, and when he comes up to the surface, he’s too tired to tell his mom about what happened, and falls asleep.

I would recommend this book for younger age groups, such as Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st grade, and maybe 2nd grade. I would rate this book a 7/10, because the art is great, and it’s easy to read for younger kids. Overall, the only problem is that if you decided you wanted to read it, it’s aimed for younger age groups. But other than that, it’s a great book!

If you do decide to read it, it’s more of a winter-and-christmas type of book, so I would recommend reading it during that time of the year. Happy reading!

Summary + Review of Bluestar's Prophecy by Airianna

Summary of Bluestar’s Prophecy

Bluestar knew she wanted to be the leader of ThunderClan since she was an apprentice. Soon after she and her sister get their warrior names, Snowfur is expecting a kit with Thistleclaw. Once Whitekit is at least 3 moons old, (moons are months) Snowfur is hit and killed by a monster. Thistleclaw blames Bluestar (Bluefur at the time) for Snowfur’s death. At least a moon or two later, ThunderClan decides to take back Sunningrocks from RiverClan, and Bluestar falls in love with Oakheart of RiverClan. Then soon after, Bluestar is expecting kits, but she has to give them to Oakheart because if she doesn’t, Thistleclaw with become leader. And if he was, he would only lead ThunderClan into endless battles.

                                                      Review

Here’s my review of Bluestar Prophecy. So if you read the summary, you know most of the important things that happen. So I’d have to rate this book a 10/10 and five stars. Because the book is well-written, it has great characters, plus it doesn’t only focus on Bluestar. (although the whole book is from her point of view) This book is aimed for older readers, such as 4th grade, 5th grade and higher. The only reason for that is because of the violence. But other than that, it’s amazing!

Sarah is a nice old woman who is lonely and likes to watch the children play outdoors before they go to school. Sarah wanted to be noticed by the children because she wanted some friends or at least a child that would smile, or wave at her. But then, she saw a boy that was standing away from the bunch of children that were playing with the snow. She noticed he didnt have mittens when he got on the bus. So, Sarah knitted that poor little boy some mittens and hung them on the big tree infront of where they always play. Then, in the morning, the boy was the first to get there, and saw those shiny new, blue gloves on the tree. The little boy was so exited, he grabbed a bunch of snow, bunched it up into a snowball and threw it in the air. Soon, Sarah starting knitting gloves in secret for all the kids without gloves, and put a smile on each and every kid she gave them too.

“I think i give this book a 5 star rating because its illustrations are a- mazing!

Emma's Review of The Mitten

                              The Mitten

Hi I’m Emma and this is the summary and review of The Mitten.

Nicki wants Baba to knit him some snow white mittens. Baba warns him that he has to be careful with them because Nicki could lose them in the white snow. But Baba makes the mittens for Nicki. When Baba finishes Nicki goes out to play. But when Nicki is running outside he loses one of his mittens.

One by one, each forest animal finds the mitten and decides to stay in it to keep warm from the cold snow. But one of the last animals, Bear squeezes his way inside the mitten leaving no more room for any other animals. Then, Mouse pops out of nowhere and scurries up onto Bear’s nose. But, because of Mouse’s little whiskers, the whiskers tickled Bear’s nose and he sneezed so big all the animals popped out of the mitten.

But because the sneeze was so powerful the mitten flew into the air. When Nicki was coming back home to Baba, he saw his mitten floating in the air. He grabbed it and went home.

I rate this book ⅘ because this book is more for younger kids. So I recommend this book to grades 3 and up. If you don’t like picture books you don’t have to read it.

The special thing about this book, in my opinion is the art. It’s detailed, it’s like you are looking at actual animals that the author took pictures of, but the illustrations are drawn.

I found this book at my school, but I suggest you look in some other places like a library, or the kids section in a bookstore. I hope you enjoy reading this book!
