I ask the students to bring a picture of their dream vehicle. They can picture a photo, cut a picture from a magazine or draw a picture. They students get so excited about the idea of their Dream Vehicle. Then we write checks to buy this vehicle. I feel so passionate about this lesson because of its real world application.
This lesson reinforces the concept of money, place value and the importance of writing a number correctly both in standard form and WORD form.
