They are able to do this because their toes are covered in hundreds of tiny microscopic hairs called setae. Each seta splits off into hundreds of smaller bristles called spatulae. The reason the bond happens is because when electrons from the gecko hair molecules interact with each other, they create an electromagnetic attraction. My brother is in the military and he mentioned that soldiers have to climb on the sides of mountains because of jungle warfare. If they had something that was safe and effective, it would help them a lot by getting them up the side of the mountain as quickly as possible. This sometimes consists of the soldiers having to climb mountains and it would be great to make it as easy and painless as possible. 3.
