Adnan came from a strict Pakistani Muslim family, where dating outside their faith and relationships before marriage were highly discouraged.

Adnan may have feared losing his family’s respect if his relationship with Hae became widely known, adding to his emotional distress.

The prosecution suggested that this cultural pressure could have made Adnan’s feelings of betrayal and desperation worse, making him more likely to act violently when Hae broke up with him.

A confidential report suggested that in certain cultures, controlling a woman, even through violence, was seen as defending honour. Implying that because of Adnan's background, the act of murdering Hae was more plausible.

Hae wrote in her diary: 'You don't respect me enough to accept my decision', which prosecutors used as evidence of tension between Adnan and Hae after the breakup

Adnan’s palm print was found on a map book inside Hae’s car, which prosecutors argued showed he had recently been in her car.

Jay consistently testified that Adnan showed him Hae’s body and asked for his help to bury it.

Cell phone records placed Adnan’s phone near Leakin Park during the time Hae’s body was allegedly buried.

The 3:32 PM call to Nisha was made from Adnan’s phone, placing him with his phone during the time he claimed to be at track practice.

Nisha testified there was no answering machine involved in the call, contradicting Adnan’s explanation.

Jay led police to Hae’s car, an important piece of evidence, and accurately described its location.

He also described cleaning shovels and disposing of evidence, supporting the State’s timeline.

The prosecution argued that Hae was most likely strangled in her car, a place where Adnan had easy access.

Becky and Krista (friends of both Adnan and Hae) testified that they heard and saw Adnan ask Hae for a ride the day she was killed, giving him easy access to her car.

Friends recalled that Adnan appeared unfazed by Hae’s disappearance, not really worried when she didn’t show up.

Debbie (Hae's friend ) said that Hae had mentioned Adnan would get upset if she didn’t answer his calls or if she spent too much time with friends.

Aisha (Hae's best friend) said Hae told her that Adnan would frequently call or try to track her down, even after they had broken up.

Phone records showed Adnan called Hae three times on the night before her disappearance suggesting he was still obsessed with her.
