Most recently looked at the American Flag, its association with patriotism and how it has become heavily politicised. Interested in the comparison of the American vs British flag and their representations and interpretation. In November I went to PMQs in the HoC and I’ve kept up with how Labour has been changing (and not changing) the country. I’m really interested in legalised death and the varying contexts and opinions such as the Assisted Dying Bill in the UK and the death penalty in the US.

I wish to develop my evaluation and review further in FMP. Developing this will allow my work to improve and reach a higher standard, reminding myself to go back and improve my work after feedback and managing my time more effectively will allow me to do this. Moving Parts was one of my weaker projects as a result as I struggled to go back and review where I could improve and felt stuck in my direction and development. Improving my evaluation and review would’ve allowed me to establish where I was at with the work and give myself more of a sense of direction and stop myself going down irrelevant rabbit holes. Improving my evaluation and review will be beneficial for me in FMP as giving myself a moment to stop and see where I’m at will prevent me from getting stuck or becoming obsessive over an area that is less relevant or should be left. Moments I have gone back to evaluate have proved to have created stronger and more relevant outcomes such as in I Love it When A Plan comes together as we had to continually look back at shots and look at how to improve in the moment. Improving my evaluation and review will also be helpful when I feel lost or stuck as it will allow me to see my work as a whole rather than singular particular aspects. Having moments of evaluation after feedback has provided me with more focus and direction and made me more confident in my work. I need to make sure I have better time management to allow myself to have time to make these improvements after evaluating and reviewing. Improving my self-directed practice then also would assist this as having better organisation and time management would allow me to have more space for evaluation and review.

Reflective Summary (subject area I wish to take forward for FMP)

I would like to take forward the subject of political polarisation and its effects on our societies for FMP. I have chosen this subject matter as I am heavily interested in politics and enjoy intertwining it and exploring it in my work. I became interested in the concept of polarisation from observing environments around me and having experienced it myself from social media and seeing how influential this can be. This research task has allowed me to push this exploration further than social media and recognise other places where polarisation is created and comes from. After my presentation feedback, breaking this subject down into categories would allow me to effectively look at the topic as a whole. Mini subjects I think would be worth exploring would be: polarisation in America, polarisation in the UK, how social media has polarised politics, polarisation before social media, causes of beliefs and Brexit. The research task and presentation feedback has given me more direction and focus of what I would like to explore and how. Having started simply looking at how tik tok has polarised politics this has evolved to be broader as other factors also do contribute to political polarisation. It would be interesting to look also at areas where politics is much less polarised, such as in local governments and where unlikely coalitions have arisen, to fully assess all areas of debate. I’d like to explore this topic as it is something I feel that is growing in our societies yet is significantly overlooked, I see potential in making work highlighting that. Pushing my research into this subject will broaden my thinking myself and provide an understanding of concepts and ideas I am less aware of. Exploring this will benefit me in the future as I like the idea of going into journalism and this would benefit me in this area.
