         <description><![CDATA[<div>Lanyards were first used by the French in the 1500's as means to keep their weapons close at hand during combat or while loading ships.&nbsp; The word Lanyard comes from the word <em>"Laniere" </em>which is French for thong or strap. They were usually made of rope or cord found aboard ships and tied around swords, guns, or whistles.</div>]]></description>
