One thing I found really moving about the piece was the the singer remained singing even though they were being talked over and ignored. She must have been very persistent and dedicated to have kept singing through the madness of the crowd. The singer makes me think of what it feels like to be overlooked in social situations and how prominent this issue is as a woman. I noticed Geese commonly flying past my house during January. They were always honking which led me to question why the honk and why they always seem to be honking while they fly. I was able to remove the parts of the video with only background noise, no humming. This made her humming sound a bit more like short melody rather than part of a song. It also makes the audio much less authentic, I think it diminished the soothing aspect of the humming. You can hear multiple brush strokes, some long, some short. The other main noise you can hear in this audio clip is reapplying paint to the brush. The paint bottle when doing this makes a really unique sound. Using Audacity I trimmed the recording and cut out some portions with excessive background noise. Proteins take on different levels of structure, starting with primary then secondary, then tertiary and lastly quaternary. Musical compositions are made up of a similar structure. Sound waves into timbers, timbers into melodies and chords. Seeing that proteins and musical compositions take on a similar structure, it can be interesting to translate the sequence of proteins into the sequence of music.

Music: sound waves→ timbers→ melodies→ chords→ chords and melodies together 
Proteins: primary →secondary→ tertiary →quaternary

The talk was really eye opening, I had never considered using careful listening as a tool to determine the health of an ecosystem. It was hard to hear the effects humans have on animals and their ecosystems. The story Krouse told at the end of his talk about the beavers was absolutely devastating. It really makes me wonder how much damage humans cause by making so much noise. 

It also has me thinking about our final project and if there could be a way to record an effect humans have on animals. The main theme I picked up on in this reading was health and or the body. They talk about the effects of noise on the body and it's health condition multiple times through out the reading. They cover the many negative impacts noise can have relating to the body. Another theme I picked up on in this reading was economics. The many relationships that noise and economics share is talked about. For example how lower income communities often have more noise pollution.  I also saw a theme of power. The reading suggested a lot of things that have power or control over noise, more specifically noise pollution.

This movie was really interesting because they addressed unique problems that often go overlooked. I found it pretty shocking how much humans pollute the ocean soundscape and the damage that causes. They actually mentioned that humans are doing so much damage that we are essentially "acoustically bleaching the ocean". This problem is much more pressing when you consider how essential sound is to animals. Sound is their main form of communication and they depend heavily on it for things like locating food and finding their friends. The matter only gets worse when you realize water is a very good conductor for sound. This means when humans introduce a sound in the ocean, that sound will effect the surrounding environment for thousands of miles. I found this very disheartening and acts as yet another blow to our relationship with the planet.
