"This was the most unkindest cut of all"

This quote is from William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar . It is an example pleonasm because the quote contains both the word most and unkindest. The word most in the quote is redundant because of the word unkindest. By using pleonasm the author shows that cut is extremely severe. The rhetoric device Pathos is enhanced because we can understand how bad the cut must be.

This quote is from the novel Eaters of the Dead. The person who is saying this says that he saw something with his own eyes. It is example of pleonasm because if you are seeing something, it is obviously with your own eyes. The author's use of pleonasm emphasizes how terrifying the thing he witnessed was. The Rhetorical device logos is enhanced because the person who is saying this is credible since he saw it himself.

This is from a book called The Big Sleep. "Poodle dog" is an example of pleonasm because a poodle is a dog so the word poodle in the quote is redundant. The author uses pleonasm to emphasize that the trees were trimmed as carefully as poodles, not just any dog. The rhetoric device logos is enhanced since the person saying this is credible because he is seeing the trees himself.
