Usually, the pointer appears as a small angled arrow. Text -processing applications, however, use an I-beam pointer that is shaped like a capital I.
Pointing device: A device, such as a mouse or trackball, that enables you to select objects on the display screen.
Icons: Small pictures that represent commands, files, or windows. By moving the pointer to the icon and pressing a mouse button, you can execute a command or convert the icon into a window. You can also move the icons around the display screen as if they were real objects on your desk
Desktop: The area on the display screen where icons are grouped is often referred to as the desktop because the icons are intended to represent real objects on a real desktop.

It is widely recognized as many offices, schools and businesses uses windows Operating system and if you do not all ready have an understanding of how the OS works there is often training for the individual. This is for any form of Microsoft Windows apart from MS-DOS, an example of this is:

Windows  MS-DOS is the command line that is not so friendly to use as it requires some knowledge of how to use it.  This Command line can only be used through commands that is known to it, making less people to use it as it is complicated to beginners. (meaning no mouse to navigate)
No one really uses MS-DOS, the command shell is more commonly used (known as the Windows command line).The image above is what the Command line looks like when running on a windows Tab.
MAC OS
This is what the MAC OS Command line looks like once it is opened up:
The MAC OS GUI is a lot like Windows, in the sense that it is easy to use and has simple guides in-regards to how to use the OS. This isn't as common as windows as this OS is only allowed on apple products, however it is still easy to use and understand. and example of how it looks is in the image bellow:

Ease of use
Users familiar with older versions of windows will most likely find the up-to-date ones to be easy to work with
Available software
Due to Microsoft dominance of the world market for PC computing operating systems and office software. If you're looking for an application to suit your business needs, chances are that if it exists there will be a Windows version of it available somewhere.
Backwards compatibility
If your using an older version, then there’s a high chance of when you update to the next windows old programs you used will be brought back.
Games
If you want the latest in PC gaming technology, then the best OS for it is windows. Windows has the biggest possible game library of all the OS systems. Some of the most popular games are also available for Linux, and even more for the Mac, but there's really no comparison.

High Resource Requirements
Microsoft requires its customers to invest the most in their computer hardware: a faster processor, more internal memory and a larger hard disk.
Poor Security
Compared to other operating systems, Microsoft security is weak. According to their own developers, their products "just aren't engineered for security." The result is that Windows computers are more likely than other systems to be hijacked.
