France imported 20,000 African slaves. The slaves revolted and then they went against there leaders. Many slaves died from malaria and yellow fever. It was the first black lead revolution. The French thought that the African revolution would not last long.

It angered the people in Portugal. It broke up Brazil so they could only trade with Portugal. They created anew constitution. They traveled around the country to gain followers. The Portuguese surrendered and gave up all their territory.

Bismarck was born at Schönhausen, in the Kingdom of Prussia. He took up the study of law at the University of Göttingen in the kingdom of Hanover. He opposed any concessions to the liberals and expressed contempt for the king’s willingness to bargain with the revolutionaries. In 1859 Bismarck was sent to Russia as Prussian ambassador, and not long thereafter he moved to Paris as ambassador to the court of Napoleon III. In 1866 Bismarck nonetheless continued his efforts to divert liberal interest from the budget conflict and toward the success of Prussian arms.

He wa born c. 1743, Bréda, near Cap-Français, Saint-Domingue. He emancipated the enslaved people and negotiated for the French colony on Hispaniola, Saint-Domingue, to be governed, briefly, by formerly enslaved people as a French protectorate. He acquired through Jesuit contacts some knowledge of French, though he wrote and spoke it poorly, usually employing Haitian Creole and African tribal language. Winning the favor of the plantation manager, he became a livestock. He died April 7, 1803, Fort-de-Joux, France.

Born Oct. 12, 1798, Lisbon. Generally known as Dom Pedro, he was the son of King John VI of Portugal. Pedro surrounded himself with ministers who counseled independence. Pedro’s initial popularity waned, and in 1823, when the Brazilian Assembly was preparing a liberal constitution, he dissolved that body and exiled the radical leader José Bonifácio de Andrada e Silva.
