A biodiversity hotspot is an ecosystem with lots of diversity in species. The tropical Andes is a biodiversity hotspot. A few species that make up the diversity are the Andean condor, guanacos, and the Orestias fish. Biodiversity isn't just animal species, it is also made up of many types of plants. A couple of these plants are the endemism plants and the Abies pinsapo. The Andes provide massive economic support to us humans. A threat to the ecosystem is deforestation.

A biodiversity hotspot is a region with unusually high variety of species. Indo-Burma, for instance, is a biodiversity hotspot that spans all non-marine parts of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, in addition to territory in southern China. Indo-Burma is native to a large portion of globally endangered animals. Examples are the white-eyed river martin, Delacour's leaf monkey, and the hairy rhinoceros. The hotspots plant life is most notable for its many high-value timber species and various orchids. This ecosystem is a major food resource for its local populations. Plantations and mining in Indo-Burma are a major threat since they cause habitat destruction.
