They are God’s creation that gives us joy and happiness.  Saint Francis of Assisi praises God for the many wonders of this world. Francis believed that everything in the natural world was a gift from God and, as such, deserved to be appreciated and valued. Because of this, Francis refers to the sun, wind, air, and fire as his brothers, and to the moon, stars, earth, water, and death as his sisters.

The Franciscan theology of the environment is a celebration of God. Giving honor to all of creation is honoring God. Living this celebration can mend the rift sin has caused and restore peace and harmony to our world.
