We will be working on the skills of:

• fronted adverbials (T.R.A.M.Ps)

• relative clauses

• using powerful verbs

• using speech marks

• conjunctions (FANBOYS and ISAWAWABUBs)

• Sentence of 3 for description e.g.
  The cottage was almost invisible, hiding under a thick layer of snow and glistening in the sunlight.

We will also be hot seating the role of the characters and building a bridge out of junk modelling (please send in recycling cardboard. Thanks!)

We will be working on:

• multiples of 10

• related calculations e.g.

  5 x 2 =

  5 x 20 =

  14 ÷ 2=

  140 ÷ 2 =

• comparing numbers with greater than or less than(< or >)

• Multiply a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number - no exchange

The questions we will be able to answer are:

Who were the Romans

Why did Claudius invade Britain?

What was life like in Roman Britain? 

We will look at Equivalent masses (kilograms and grams)

And we will be comparing mass.

and inverted commas

We will write a fact file on her life, we will roleplay her journey and finally draw a picture of her.

Lastly, we write a diary entry as a Roman soldier.

We will include:

1. Sentence Type 3 (Description)

We will describe characters and settings using expanded noun phrases.

Example:
The small basket was almost invisible, drifting along the wide river and rocking gently in the morning light.

2. Speech Marks

We will use speech marks to show when characters are talking.

Example:
“We must stay together,” whispered Remus nervously.

3. ‘‑ing’ Clauses for Sentence Starters

We will begin sentences with ‑ing words (present participles) to add action and detail.

Example:
Running, Romulus felt his heart thump in his chest.

4. Similes

We will use similes to help the reader picture the scene by comparing one thing to another using like or as.

Example:
The river sparkled like silver under the moonlight.

Inference means being a reading detective.
You do not find the answer written clearly in the text.
You use clues from the text + what you already know to work out the answer.

Examples,

Text clue:

The soldiers held their shields tightly and did not speak before battle.

Inference:
The soldiers were nervous or scared.

Why?
People are often quiet and tense when they feel afraid.

Text clue:

Villages were burning as Boudica’s army marched forward.

Inference:
Boudica’s army was powerful and dangerous.

Why?
Burning villages shows destruction and fear.
