If you are a nursing major at RUC, please feel free to let out your thoughts and feelings about this semester and all that is wrong about the testing system. All other RUC students, let’s show our support for our fellow nursing students - this semester has been hard on all of us but the testing structure in the nursing program has made it that much more unbearable for our nursing majors.

Testing should allow students to exemplify the things they learned and to show how they are engaging with new information and knowledge - testing shouldn't distract students from the goal of expanding their capacity to learn and proving their understanding of the material. The testing structure of the nursing school has students more concerned with avoiding unreasonably-defined infractions and rule violations. Because of these rules, such as students being mandated to sit in uncomfortable positions and being disallowed from touching their faces, has resulted in undue stress and anxiety that will only hurt students in the short- and long-term. Testing should make students feel more comfortable with education, not less.

- Jameson Colbert, at-large representative for the graduate school, RUCSGA

Growing Anxieties in friends and Roomate’s

I am not a nursing student, however, many of my friends and my roommate are and I have seen the effects these testing policies have had on very hard working students. I was used to noticing their stress from pre-pandemic, however- what I’m seeing now makes me very concerned. It has skyrocketed where my friends have had anxieties because they were worried they accidentally touched their face too often. My roommate has to take so many ridiculously time consuming and extra steps to ensure he can take his exam due to these policies even though other methods to prevent cheating work without going to extremes. From what I’ve heard, Professors aren’t listening to the students who know firsthand what this experience is like. It is overtly ridiculous and I know my campus can do better at listening to their students.
