3)What are some similarities and differences to today's time period or America?
In East Berlin, books that go against what the Stasi want the citizens to believe so they have a limited supply of books and news articles they can read and learn from. Also, the Stasi can go into their homes without permission and invade them and the citizens do not have free speech or free press. Whereas we can learn whatever information we choose to.
But in both certain people are treated superior than others. Also, most of the people in the U.S. don't agree with their leader, and neither do most if not all of the people in East Berlin

Gerta just came home from sneaking out before curfew to get the pulley that would help her and Fritz dig their tunnel to escape East Berlin.
At first I thought Gerta was an innocent young girl who wouldn't do anything against her country or family, but now I think that she has learned so much that she can't help herself. The young girl risked her life as well as her entire family's life because if she was caught the Stasi would punish anyone related to her and this would be added to her file(with all her actions against the country). Also, her building a tunnel to escape with Fritz would most likely be discovered which would not be good for Gertz. Especially because Gertz's mother is away helping their grandmother, this was a really risky action for 12 year off Gertz to pull off all alone.

At this point Anna just came to help Gerta and Fritz with their garden, but Gerta just turned her way because they are actually building a tunnel to escape East Berlin; she may have just lost her chance at getting her best friend back.
I don't think it was wise of Gerta to turn Anna way after she came to sincerely help her and Fritz with their garden and earn back Gertz's friendship. Although Gertz is truly trying to make it possible to escape East Berlin with her brother and mother, she needs a friend right now to help her because she is very stressed out and worried about life. This idea isn't as strong as to helping Gertz and her inner feelings, but if Anna was to help with the garden then more progress would be made in case the Stasi came back to see what has been done. Gertz may have to stop working on the tunnel for a little bit so Anna doesn't find out, but at least she would have someone to talk to.

Mama just got home from helping Oma Gertrude and Gerta and Fritz just told her about their tunnel. She said that she won't allow them to finish the tunnel.
I believe that at first Mama isn't going to let Gerta and Fritz continue to work on their tunnel, but eventually and hopefully before Fritz is sent to the military, she will allow and help them finish their escape tunnel. Especially because they just witnessed the Stasi Herr Krause's friend for writing about their opinions, it would not be safe for Mama's children to be digging a tunnel to escape East Berlin. Mama doesn't want Gertz and Fritz to get in trouble - like their father who is wanted - and possibly killed for trying flee the country, but then it will strike her that in order for her family to live freely. She will realize that they are doing this for the best of themselves and that it is worth the risk to escape the country.

Gerta, Fritz and Mama just found Papa and Dominic's tunnel which is right next to their which they can connect so that they can escape to the west all together.
I was nervous at first when Mama heard other people digging by their tunnel because the author used great suspense and description to make you worry about who is at the other side of the dirt wall. Then, once they find out it is Papa and Dom at the other side with their tunnel I was relieved because now it is much easier for them to get to freedom. Their entire family has finally reunited after four years of being divided by a wall, but now they can't see each other without fixing the tunnel because when they take down the wall, the tunnel will collapse. It was still nerve racking to wonder if they would be able to escape in time.

Part of me wanted them to leave while they first found Papa and Dom, but I also knew that they had to wait for Officer Muller's family and Anna's family. It would be very dangerous for them to leave the apartment, and when they did, I was on the edge of my seat because I wanted them to get to freedom with the rest of their family and to be safe. They were fortunate enough to sneak out the back of the apartment building and hide in the alleys after curfew and make it to the Welcome Building where the tunnel is.

Now in the book Gerta, her family, Anna's family and Officer Muller's family are all escaping through the tunnel, but the Grenzer's are very close to catching and killing them. And they made a hole in the roof and shot Officer Muller while Gerta tried to pull him to safety.
In this moment Gerta was a true role model because even though at first she was worried that Muller would turn her and Fritz in for digging a tunnel, she went back to danger to get Muller to safety. If she hadn't tried to bring him to the end of the tunnel- he died while she was getting him- she would have taken his work to protect their tunnel for granted. She wanted to return the favor he did of helping their tunnel not be discovered, but he risked himself to make sure his family and the other families were safe. In the beginning of the book Gerta wouldn't have been brave enough to go into the danger and help Muller, but she's grown so much and would want someone to help her if she was in Muller's place.

Gerta can't read any books she wants and know any information she wishes to; the Stasi decide what she is allowed to know.
One big difference between Gerta's life and my life, is that I am free to know whatever information I wish to learn, while she is limited because the Stasi don't want her to know. The citizens of East Berlin are trapped and not given all their rights because they deserve to know whatever they want and not be limited to certain information. The Stasi don't want their citizens to know what is going on around them and think the opposite of what they believe. In the United States we can think whatever we want and can find any information we want to, so we have more rights than Gerta did in East Berlin.

It's the end of the book and Gerta, her family, Officer Muller's wife and baby, and Anna's family all made it to West Berlin, but they don't tell you what happens.
At the end of the book I wished it could keep going with all the excitement, because they finally reached their goal and made it to freedom, so I wanted to know what happened next. It was a happy ending, but I wished that there would be more. for example, how they lived in West Berlin and how they were able to be free with the rest of their family that they haven't seen in four years. That would be a satisfying ending because the reader wouldn't be left wondering what happened to them in freedom. I know that leaving the reader with some questions is a good way to better the story, but I really wanted an exact ending to the story.

Especially because he used to work for the Stasi and he was going against everything that he had been told, it was was really risky for him to possibly get caught by the other Stasi because he would be badly punished. He put others first and let them be safe which is kind and the traits/actions of real role model. Because of him and his integrity his wife and child- and the other families- get to live in freedom and safety in West Berlin.

He's not being a sincere person. I know that he works with the Stasi, but I feel that he should stay true to himself even though he is supposed to think like the army want him to. He would get in so much trouble if someone found out that he knew about the tunnel and didn't turn Gerta and Fritz in, so the right thing to do after already breaking the rules would be to escape to freedom with them and his family.

Gerta just told Mama about the tunnel and how they are going to escape, but she doesn't want to leave Oma Gertrude alone in East Berlin.
I can relate with what Mama is saying about feeling bitter about escaping East Berlin and leaving Oma Gertrude alone with a broken leg. Although I would be doing everything I could to escape and see the rest of my family, I wouldn't want to leave my poor, innocent grandmother alone while I go off and live freely. If Mama told Oma Gertrude she might understand that they need to leave and that she wasn't well enough herself to make her way out of the tunnel, but she'd still want to go. Of course Mama wants to be in West Berlin, but she doesn't want to be separated from more family; that would be a tough decision whether to escape of to stay with Oma Gertrude.

Fritz is telling Gerta about how he is going to swim the spree and leave East Berlin. He is using note cards and then burning them in the fireplace they have.
I find it cool and creative how Fritz and Gerta communicate through writing on paper and then burning them in the fire so that there is no track of what they are saying. The Stasi can just freely intrude into their apartment whenever they like because the citizens don't have any rights. The Stasi can turn anything that might be slightly wrong into something that can be made into harsh punishment. If I were in their place, I probably couldn't have thought of burning the papers, but they probably know by now because they have been living in East Berlin for over four years and understand what life is like and what would happen to them if they were caught; so it's important that aren't caught.

1. Who is your main character? How would you describe him/her?
My name character is Gerta. She is a determined, impatient, strong-willed, creative young girl. In the book she successfully digs a tunnel by sneaking away from the Stasi and continues to dig even though the tunnel is failing. That shows that she is determined to finish something even though it might not succeed.
2. Who are some secondary characters and why are they important to the story?
The secondary characters in my book are Fritz and Mama. Fritz is important because he is the one that majorly helps Gerta dig the tunnel, and he's the reason they needed to hurry to finish the tunnel quickly. Without him there wouldn't have been major progress to finish the tunnel. And Mama is important because she is the one that allowed them to build the tunnel once things got serious, even though she didn't want them to be digging.
3. What is the problem or conflict of the book?
The problem in the book is that Gerta's brother, Dom, and father are on the West side of the Berlin wall while Gerta, her other brother Fritz and their Mama are on the East side. The East side is under a dictatorship while the West is free, so Gerta and her family needed to escape the East.
4. How is the main character trying to resolve the problem?
Gerta is trying to solve this issue by digging a tunnel under the "death strip" with the help of her brother Fritz. That way they can get passed the Berlin Wall without getting noticed.
5. What do you like so far about the book? AND WHY.
What I liked about the book is how suspenseful it was. For example, when Gerta realized the tunnel was con-caving and they had to fix it fast, and when Mama and Gerta had to escape their apartment building so they could escape through the tunnel. That's because it kept me wondering what would happen next and not want to stop reading until they made it to safety.
6. What don’t you like so far about the book? AND WHY.
What I didn't like about the book is that Officer Muller died when they were escaping through the tunnel. He changed into a very nice person to Gerta, and then when he risked his life to get them to West Berlin I knew he didn't deserve to die. He went against East Berlin and could have been killed doing so, so because he was so strong and brave it shows that he deserved to live.

Book Title: Daughter of the Pirate King
Author: Tricia Levenseller
Date Started: March 24, 2017
Reading Rate: 64 pages per week
Current Page #: 101
Main Character: Alosa (daughter of the Pirate King). She is 17 years old and is on a mission for her father. She purposefully got kidnapped by the Night Farer on a mission to rob them of the second piece of three for a map to lead to a greater treasure island(Isla de Canta). After reading so far, I can tell she is very wise, determined, clever and stubborn. She is taken away by Riden's personality and begins get side tracked from her mission while hoping he doesn't figure out her plan.
Secondary Character(s):
1. Riden is the captain of the Night Farer's brother, Draxen. He is the pirate who was assigned to question Alosa about where her father is. The attractive Riden starts to have feelings to Alosa and partially helps her, but at the same time he feels the need to be true to Draxen and find the Pirate King.
2. Draxen is the captain of the pirate ship that captured Alosa. He is very strict and not afraid to do anything or kill anyone to get what he wants. His goal was to kidnap Alosa, which he did, and will do something to the Pirate King once she tells him where he is hiding.
POV: First person
Setting: The book takes place in the ocean in the boats. And sometimes they dock in a port and then go onto land to get out of the sea. This is probably in the past because their are pirates that have rivalry's. Also, they don't think that Alosa is as capable of fighting better than the men or defending for herself- even though she can.
Interesting Noticing: I notice that Riden hides his emotions usually, like when Alosa talks to him about Draxen he has a difficult time explaining to Alosa how he loves him because he's his only family. That's probably because in this time period he wanted to keep his bravado. Also, how Alosa continues to go on this dangerous and risky hunt all for her father. She makes it seem like her only drive is to make her the Pirate King happy.

Adventure Book Character Claim Post #2 due BOP 4/5

Current page #: 186
Character Name: Alosa
Claim: Alosa is a very wise and clever pirate.
Evidence/Data:
1. " 'Kearan, You have to help me. Please. Help me get away from here.' My intention is for him to assume I misplaced my trust . He's supposed to haul me back to the ship."(Levenseller, 93-94).
2. "...I settle for grabbing the sleeve of his long shirt... That's fine by me, because it gives me the time I need to use my free hand to pluck the key to my cell from his pocket."(Levenseller 24-25).
3. Alosa agrees with everything Draxen says so that she can use him to find the map more easily(Levenseller 184).
Warrant:
Alosa is a very wise and clever pirate. The book states, " 'Kearan, You have to help me. Please. Help me get away from here.' My intention is for him to assume I misplaced my trust . He's supposed to haul me back to the ship"(Levenseller, 93-94). To illustrate, Alosa uses her brilliant mind to think of a plane to get back onto the ship without risking getting caught doing so on a boat. No other pirate would have thought of purposefully getting caught so they would take them back to their cell. On page 24 and 25, Alosa tricks Riden into making him move in a way that allows her to be able to steal the key to her cell out of his pocket. That enables her to escape during the night, so she can look for the map. This shows that she is clever because she knew that she wouldn't be able to leave her cell without getting the only key from Riden, so she wisely snatches it out of his pocket. According to the text, Alosa changes her usual ways and agrees with everything Draxen says and does so that he will be more lenient with her allowing her to use him to find the map. That cleverness could only have been thought up of by Alosa because she is knows what her task is wants to make sure her father is pleased. Without Alosa's clever and wise mindset she wouldn't be as determined with her task.

Chloe Howell

Daughter of the Pirate King

Tricia Levenseller

Current Page: Finished

Summary: Alosa just told the audience or the readers that she is partly a siren. In the beginning she only says that her father was the Pirate King, not that she was part siren.

Reading Reaction: I was shocked when Alosa said that her mother was a Siren. This helped Alosa take advantage of the crew members on the Night Farer because they were all men that could be put under her enchantment allowing her to find the map. Also, this showed that the Pirate King only sent Alosa on these hard missions because she can manipulate the pirates. Because there are many steps Alosa had to go through to find the map, she got to use her abilities to put members to sleep, forget things, help her with duties, and more. When I didn’t know that Alosa had Siren abilities I thought she wouldn’t find the map and the crew would be after her and she wouldn’t have a way out, but once I figured it out she had powers, I knew she would could find the map. I predicted that she would put Draxen under her spell and then make him tell her where the map was; even though now I know he didn’t know where the map was on the ship.

Chloe Howell
Daughter of the Pirate King
Tricia Levenseller
Current Page: Finished
Summary: Alosa just woke up after being kidnapped by Vordan who also had part of the map. And she finds that Theris is actually working for Vordan and not with the Pirate King, so he tricked Alosa.
Reading Reaction: I was caught off guard when I found out Theris didn't actually work for the Pirate King. First of all, I didn't think any of the crew members on the Night Farer would have even known about the King putting one of his members on the ship to help Alosa. The entire plan of purposefully getting kidnapped was a secret that the Pirate King chose to tell certain people, so the fact that Theris knew about it was interesting. Because he even knew the "K" sign to give Alosa meant that he had been doing research with Vordan and spying on the Pirate King. In addition, Theris didn't do much in the story, so I thought he just didn't want to get caught for knowing Alosa and working on the inside for the Pirate King. Because Alosa killed the crew member that was supposed to help her, she now has no way of aid or a step towards communication towards her father telling him she's in danger. I predicted that Alosa would be able to escape Vordan and the his other partners, but Riden wouldn't make it because he would try to protect Alosa, and would then be shot by the members. That was wrong because both Alosa and Riden got away.

Book Title: A Million Worlds With You
Author: Claudia Gray
Genre: Fantasy
Date Started: 5/24/17
Total Pages: 419
Current Page #: 94
Main Character: Marguerite Caine. She is an artist teenager in the family of famous scientists who have created a cross dimensional travel necklace the firebird. She is determined, optimistic and creative, but may also be worried at times. She knows a lot and can be held back, but always perseveres by the help of her loved ones.
Secondary Character(s):
1. Paul Markov who is Marguerite's boyfriend, who is confused on his feelings because his soul was ripped apart. But otherwise he is a very smart grad student. He also is pretty much a part of Marguerite's family and is cared for by them. They have connection that may be hurtful in most dimensions, or it may be a love connection.
2. Theo is also very close with Marguerite and is like part of their family and has feelings for Marguerite that aren't mutual. He will do anything for that family, and is a big brother to Paul and loves him.
POV: First Person
Setting: The main dimension where the main characters live is a modern day Los Angeles. Marguerite's family lives in a small house where the magic happens. Although, the technology and scientific evolution is faster developed in this world, it is much more similar to our world than where they travel to.
Interesting Noticing: I notice how Marguerite isn't stopped by fear and knows what she has to do for the best. For example, her love Paul had his heart ripped apart by dimensional travel and she still let him go along to travel with her. Her body was also hijacked by an evil traveler that wants her and her dimension killed. She knows how many dangers there are in what she is doing, but in order to stop a genocide of trillions of people she has to risk herself and others even though she would rather not.
Book Cover:

Reading Response- 6/13

3. One of the most emotional part in my book was when Marguerite blames herself for the death of Marguerite's in other dimensions. Because the main character knows about Triad trying to kill Marguerites in other dimensions so she can't go there and they can get their own Josie back, she is trying to help save them, but hasn't been successful. So far she couldn't save the Londonverse Marguerite from falling into a river or the Egyptverse one who was strangled by Theo and is now in orbit with a ship that might explode. It made me feel depressed because she was only trying to help them live, but instead they died, but she did everything she could. She shouldn't blame herself for trying to help.

11. I would recommend this book(series) to other readers because there is so much action which makes it exciting but you also get to understand the characters and learn to feel for them. It's important to a book to be fun to read- which A Million Worlds with You is- so that you are always enjoying the book and continue to want to read more. But also, throughout the series the reader learns about the characters and wants to be friends with them, so the book is emotional when bad things happen.

12. Dear Diary,
I'm worried about my beloved Paul. After his soul was splintered he's never going to be the same again. I love him so much, but now I'm on a mission to save trillions of other people; I don't know who to put first. Everything is my fault, I killed two other Marguerites because I couldn't save them and I basically sent Paul into the soul splintering world. I have to help someone.

6. This book taught me to always live in the moment and don't take what you have fro granted. In the story Marguerite travels through dimensions and learns about herself, and she wouldn't have been exposed to such wonderful and horrid worlds if she had been too scared to travel in the multiverse. Also, Paul's soul was torn apart but he's never going to be the same and Theo may die due to overdosing on Night Thief. Marguerite didn't treasure her relationships before all of there bad things happened to her and what she was exposed to by dimension traveling. I know now that I should always treasure what I have because I don't know when I won't have it again.

4. What caught me by surprise was in the beginning when Wicked(and evil Marguerite) was inside her and acting for her, and her mom and dad didn't know that it was their Marguerite, only Paul knew. I know that Paul and Marguerite knew each other very well, but she wasn't acting anything like how the original did, so it seems scary that her parents couldn't even tell the difference between their daughter and an impostor. Wicked wanted to do harm to her family and dimension, and it shown through in her actions in the slightest way, but having her parents spending their entire lives with her, it seems weird that Paul only recognized it wasn't her. For example, even after Paul told them it wasn't their Marguerite they still didn't believe him or see it for themselves.

Page: 136
Summary: In my book right now Marguerite just left the Spaceverse when she was going to be studied by a scientist/psychologist to see what was wrong with her- because she or Wicked made the ship go off track. She is now with Paul in a new universe that she just entered where she is surrounded by grass, and just painted a new picture of her. I'm in the rising action, because Marguerite hasn't stopped Wicked from destroying all of the necessary dimensions and destroying the current Marguerite. In the end, the Triadverse wants to get their splintered Josie back, but by doing so because she splintered into thousands of pieces they need to destroy a multitude of dimensions.
