Beginning of Space Race

The Space Race began from August 2, 1955, to July 17, 1975, when the Soviet Union responded to the U.S.'s announcement of sending satellites to space. The Soviet Union tried to beat the U.S. to send a man to the Moon. Overall, the race became an ideological and political competition between the two world powers. Finally, the U.S. sent Neil Armstrong to the moon first, and got him back home successfully, thus assuming the U.S. had won the Space Race.

Creation of NATO

The creation of NATO was proposed by Harry S. Truman in order to provide protection against the soviet union and was established in 1949. The purpose of NATO is to establish a united front and when one member of NATO is attacked they all respond as if they were attacked collectively.

Provided markets for American goods. Created reliable trading partners and supported the development of stable democratic government in western Europe.

Korean War

The Korean War started in June 25th 1950 when North Korea invaded South Korea. There was 5 years of tension that led up to it. It lasted 3 years until when an Armistice was signed in July 27th 1953, leaving the Korean Peninsula divided.

A Political and Military alliance, lasting from May 14, 1955 to February 25, 1991, between the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, Albania, Bulgaria, the German Democrat Republic, Romania, and Poland. It emphasized non-interference with internal affairs and was "organized around collective decision making." It was dissolved shortly before the Soviet Union's Collapse. It was the opposite of NATO in reality.
