He originally only wanted to kill her in her house, but then decided not to because he couldn't find a sharp weapon in her living room. He opts for plan B, which is much more diabolical. He pulls out a cigarette and starts drinking in front of her. The next day, at work, Ms. Barrows reports Mr. Martin to Mr. Fitweiler, but he only believes Martin's side of the story because he has such a perfect record and the things Barrows said about him seem like lies.
