Galan:
I felt that having the survey done was the most difficult part of this GI project! Having to find foreigners and having so many classmates competing for that one foreigner to do the survey was hard as most of the foreigners only did once as they walked along the streets!
Nathaniel:
Having done the survey in such a short amount of time, I was faced with problems I did not even think about right at the start of the project. Firstly , it was very hard to even locate said foreigners as there was no way to know for sure if they had come to Singapore after they were born or if they were born here. Furthermore, some of the foreigners were not very friendly towards me as they did not even bother to reply my questions and just walked off acting as if they did not see me. Lastly, as the area was being surveyed by a lot of students, we all had to fight for foreigners to survey as we did not want to keep them busy and they only did the survey of one student.
Sharon:
To be able to come together to accomplish the task by making tourists to do the survey was really tedious as there were many other classmates competing for the same tourists and tourists were not keen in doing the surveys after they did 1 survey thus we had to constantly look for new tourists visiting the site.
Hui Can:
The field trip to Kampong Glam was fun actually. However, I think the field trip duration was too short. As the entire cohort went together, each sites were overcrowded. The situation worsened for us to conduct our investigation when there was limited tourists and when some of them rejected our interviews. Also, each interview per tourist was entitled to one student only hence, we had to 'fight' with one another to catch the opportunity. Language barrier was another obstacle as some tourists could not speak English which in turn interrupted the investigation and contributed to the inaccuracy of data collection. Despite facing many challenges, this fieldwork gave me the opportunity to be able to interact with strangers which strengthened my socialization ski.

In order to prove our hypothesis, that the presence of heritage sites of Kampong Glam makes it an attractive tourist destination, we had to collect data first. Hence, our final decision as a group was to create questionnaires and conduct surveys on the tourists.

After investigating on the tourists' reasons of visiting Kampong Glam, we have analysed that 56% of the tourists visited Kampong Glam for shopping. We also found out from the tourists that they were mainly shopping for traditional wares such as Persian carpets, Kebaya dresses and more. As the era changes, there are fewer shops that sells traditional wares as people welcome the new and send the old, the number of people buying and wearing traditional costumes are decreasing tremendously. Hence, traditional ware shops are near to extinction. This evidence supports our hypothesis as most traditional ware shops are located in Bussuroh Street at Kampong Glam to preserve Singapore's history, tourists who are interested in Singapore's history will definitely head down there.

Also after investigating on the pedestrian count, we have concluded that Bussuroh Street has the highest pedestrian count in Kampong Glam. We have found out that 42% of the tourists visited Bussuroh Street for Masjid Sultan, a Sultan Mosque that remains a major landmark for Singapore Muslims. This evidence supports our hypothesis as it shows that tourists were curious and attracted to the heritage sites and cultures due to the profound history in Singapore such as Bussuroh Street since Singapore is a multicultural country.

Hence, the presence of heritage sites of Kampong Glam makes it an attractive tourist destination.

Based on our data, tourists come to Singapore for many different purposes including leisure, business, culture learning and food. With 30% each coming for leisure and business purposes and 20% each coming for culture learning and food which in contrast, contradicts with our hypothesis that tourists visit Singapore for the rich culture we have here.

Based on our data, 42% of the tourists that we interviewed came from the Bussuroh Street making it the most visited site of the 4 sites we have visited. Meanwhile, 25% of the tourists we interviewed came from Haji lane and minority came from Arab street and Bali lane contributing to 17% each. Thus, it is evident that tourists visit the Bussouroh street because of the presence of the Mosque and therefore is rich in terms of religious culture, supporting our hypothesis that tourists visit Kampong Glam for the rich culture of the Muslim community.
