You have to remember that you can only really help one person at a time before moving onto the next. This is why triage is an important step in an MCI because then we can visualize where we need to be and where we need to direct people arriving on scene. Communication is the most important aspect of an MCI because if we don't effectively communicate the scene quickly becomes out of control. We have such a rural area even a simple 3 car pile up could be considered an MCI. I was pretty jealous when Hollie says they practice MCIs downstate. They can happen out of nowhere and need so much coordination, definitely anxiety inducing. We talked about them in the EMR class but it would be nice if there was classes that responders could take that deal exclusively in MCI's so we can be better prepared. It's something everyone hears about but a select few have even been involved with. I think I would have a lot of trouble during the triage phase since you have to triage all of the victims before starting work, and I feel like I would have a hard time passing up someone critical to mark the next patient's severity.
