Drip irrigation is a system of irrigation which uses tubes to distribute water across a wide network, the tubes use small individual nozzles or openings in order to drip water, often at hourly intervals, onto the crops. This method of irrigation places the water closer to the base of the plant and helps to prevent evaporation before the water manages to reach the soil and enter the roots of the plant. It also saves extra water due to its prevention of water evaporation, bringing down evaporation to levels as low as 5%.
