2. a. Use different forms of the following words to provide suitable collocations related to culture and explain the meanings of the expressions obtained. Make sure you make contributions which have not been already proposed by other classmates. However, if necessary, you may also participate by adding relevant information to the definitions posted in order to improve them. Write the collocations and their definitions in the text box here, where the assignment is given, so that all the definitions are together. CULTURE ASSIMILATION SHOCK ACCEPTANCE DOMINANCE AWARENESS INTELLIGENCE BACKGROUND DIVERSITY MAINSTREAM 2. b. Individually, choose three collocations and write two example sentences for each one them: one extracted from a reliable source (acknowledging it, of course), and another one from your own authorship. Please, be aware of your classmates’ answers so as not to repeat the examples. For this activity, every one of you should open a different text box. In the title section, please write your name. In the body, work on the assignment.

2. a. Cultural diversity: it is the cultural variety or the different cultures that can exist within a society. (Ayelén Pereyra)
Social acceptance: it can be considered the ability to accept other people's differences. (Ayelén Pereyra)
I would like to add that these differences may refer to ethnicity, sexual preferences, religious beliefs, ways of experiencing the world, and all kinds of differences that could lead to prejudices. (Julieta Gonzalvez)
Cultural imperialism: it refers to the practice of promoting or imposing a powerful culture over a less powerful one, usually through the exportation of cultural commodities such as film, music, etc. (Ayelén Pereyra)
Cultural shock: it is the experience a person may have when moving to a different cultural environment. (Ayelén Pereyra)
I found a different definition of culture shock that I would like to mention.
Culture shock: the feeling of being confused or anxious that you get when you visit a foreign country or a place that is very different from the one you are used to. (Ayelén Panero)
Culture vulture: it refers to people who really enjoy reading, theater, cinema, i.e. people who are really interested in the arts. (Ayelén Pereyra)
Cultural background: It constitutes the ethnic, religious, racial, gender, linguistic or other socioeconomic factors and values that shape an individual's upbringing. Cultural background can be shaped at a family, societal or organizational level. (Ayelén Panero)
Cultural awareness is the ability to recognize and understand the different beliefs, values, and customs that someone has, based on their cultural background. It allows a person to build more successful personal and professional relationships in a diverse environment. (Ayelén Panero)
Cultural intelligence: A measure of a person's capacity to function effectively in a multi-cultural environment. Employers and organizations apply CQ (cultural intelligence) as a way to foster tolerance and enhance cross-cultural interactions.
Read more: http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/cultural-intelligence-CQ.html
Cultural assimilation: It is the process by which a person or a group's language and, or culture come to resemble those of another group. (Aluminé Brandolini)
<del>"</del><del>Cultural Mainstream</del><del>" </del> Mainstream culture or just "The mainstream": the ideas and opinions that are thought to be normal because they are shared by most people. (M. Belén Bersano)
"Cross-cultural": involving two or more different cultures. (M. Belén Bersano)
"Cultural Diffusion": the spread of cultural beliefs and social activities from one group to another. (M. (Florencia Morelli)</del>
"Cultural appropriation": It is the adoption or use of elements of one culture by members of another culture. (Florencia Morelli)
"Cultural appreciation": Cultural Appreciation is learning about another culture with respect and courtesy. It is appreciating a certain culture enough to take the time to learn about it, interact with people belonging to that culture, and actually understand it. (Florencia Morelli)
Dominant Culture: A dominant culture is a culture which is able, through economic and/or political power, to impose its values, language, and ways of behaving on a subordinate culture or cultures. This may be achieved through legal or political suppression of other sets of values and patterns of behaviour, or by monopolizing the media of communication.

Climate and Geography. I chose both factors because I consider that they are closely related. From my point of view, the climate conditions and the physical features of a particular area might determine the way of life of a particular community or society living in this area. This may include the food they eat, the clothes they wear, the activities they engage in, such as hobbies, and sports, and the kinds of jobs they get. (Ayelén Panero)

Cuisine: I have chosen cuisine because, in my opinion, it is a defining characteristic of each culture. It involves the specific cooking traditions related to each region and culture. People have a typical style of preparing food, which makes it different from the other cultures. Cuisine may be influenced by the available products which belong to each region or country. For example, African cuisine is really characterized by the use of fruits, vegetables and grains in their dishes. (M. Belén Bersano)
