Scenario:
Before morning meeting, Zaviar came to atelier and he saw others drawing so he wanted to do the same.

He started drawing a car. He said this is a Boat car. He specially choose purple colour for this.
He told his educator, that the tyres go up and it swims on water. The boat car also had a hook. Upon inquiry he informed his educator that the hook is used to grab other boats because they are in danger.

We will talk about the spider webs after the second note.

This is the Monster car that Zaviar drew

When making this car, Zaviar choose red colour. I was wondering if he is associating red with danger and since this is monster car so he choose this colour.

Initially this monster truck only had scary eyes and sharp teeth. It was first a monster but then Zaviar added tyre like legs to it and it became a monster car. (This again made me wonder if he really likes cars because both his drawings were about cars. I will have to go over his other drawings for this.)

When the educator inquired what does the Monster car do?, Zaviar replied, 'It eats a children.'. Then he added tentacles to the monster car and said that these are octopus legs and this what the monster car uses to eat children.

When the educator asked who will save the children, Zaviar said, No one. As Zaviar was open to the educator suggestions and being part of his play, this is where a strong suggestion was given. The educator picked up the monster car drawing and pretended that it was eating Zaviar. This is when, Zaviar turned the boat car in a saviour by giving it spider webs, he said that when the monster car tries to eat the children, the boat car throws it spider webs to stop it.

As you can there are some blue colour strokes on monster car.

Arfa and Zirwa saw some spare bottles and took them out to the small Early Year's ground. It had rained the previous night and there was a water puddle there. They started putting the muddy water in the bottles with their shovels.

Zirwa suggested "Upar walay ground me ziada mitti hai" Following her lead we went to the main ground. There Urfa and Zirwa started digging with their shovels. They gathered a lot of sand which they filled in their bottles.

On our way back to the community, Urfa saw some flowers. She shouted "wou dekho purple phul" Then both of them plucked two long stemmed flowers. When we reached our community ground, both of the girls put the flowers in their respective bottles. We went to the puddle and started pouring the mud in the bottles which now had flowers in them. "Humne poda laga lia hai" Urfa gleamed in happiness.

Scenario:
One fine morning, a group of children in EY3 were really excited about going camping. They gathered inside the piazza and started pretending to have a campfire with stones and twigs. They emptied out a big basket of blocks and pretended it was their tent. Later, they came up with an idea to make a tent using a sheet. They attempted to erect the sheet into a tent-like shape using wooden logs, but, their efforts were unsuccessful.

Later in the morning meeting, they discussed what they would need for their pretend camping adventure. Zaha and Aman thought tents were important. Ahmad suggested bringing blankets, Nyle wanted marshmallows, Maria liked pillows, and Eliana suggested bringing toys. Aman also thought storybooks would be great.

They all agreed on what to pack for their make-believe camping trip. They took a few sheets, their backpacks and water bottles and, sleeping mattress pads. They went outside, put down sheets, and looked for logs to use.

After a few tries, they decided to use the goalpost for their pretend shelter. With help from their educators and Baji, they set up the sheets and placed their mattress sheets inside.

Amin, Aman, Mikael, and Ahmad searched for twigs to start a pretend fire. Aman and Ahmad thought they could rub twigs together, while Fatima thought using stones might work. Mirhan mentioned her dad knows how to start a fire with stones. Aman said they should use both twigs and stones, but Zaha and Aman added matchsticks to the list because the twigs and stones didn't work at all.

They took a break inside the tent, drank water, and got ready to pretend camp in their community. Zaha really wanted to pretend to have a campfire and marshmallows. She made wooden planks and cube blocks look like marshmallows, while Ahmad set up a sheet on roundies to make a pretend tent. Amin, Zaha, Ahmad, and Haider happily pretended they were in a camp, putting stones nearby for the campfire. They even brought their toys into their pretend tents.

Amin and Zaha shared a pretend tent and arranged their stuffed animals comfortably on cushions made of blankets (carpet pieces), using wooden blocks to pretend they were food. Ahmad had his own pretend tent, furnished with cushions and rugs made of wooden blocks at the entrance. The kids had a great time pretending to camp, bringing the fun of camping inside.

Reflection: The children's exploration of camping is a great example of their creativity and imagination. They used their prior knowledge and experiences to create their own pretend campsite, complete with a tent, campfire, and food.

The children also showed problem-solving skills as they worked together to overcome challenges, such as erecting the tent and starting a fire. They also showed teamwork and cooperation as they shared materials and ideas.

Urfa and Zirwa pondered over where to put the bottles. "Andr yeh andhere me akela hojai ga" Zirwa showed concern. They both decided unanimously to place the plant bottles in the small ground. "Hum isko pani bhi de de ge washroom se" Said Urfa. Both of them got water in steel utensils from the washroom and watered the plants.

Now the plants are ready to flourish! They have everything they need. Sun, Clay and water. Urfa and Zirwa religiously water the plants everyday. They go out to see if their plants are okay. Sometimes if Zirwa is busy Urfa would water her plant aswell, and Zirwa does the same for her friend.

Exploring Pani Mud (One Day Exploration)

One day, during our morning meeting, the children told their educator they wanted to play with “pani mud”. They also told their educator they wanted to take “bartan”, and shovels with them. When we took them outside, we gave them palettes so they could make whatever type of “pani mud” they wanted to make. Hibban and Subhan excitedly took the palettes and pots to the sinks and filled them with water, while Azlaan took a pot and filled it. They then started mixing soil with water. Hibban and Subhan noticed that the colour of the water startled changing, and they excitedly told their teacher “dekhyen pani brown hora hai”, while the girls were more interested in using shovels for digging. Azlaan started mixing small amounts of water with the soil, concentrating on this mixture since he wanted the perfect texture for “mango jelly” (me mango jelly banara hoon). Aahil was playing quietly, he was concentrating on mixing water and soil.

Sticky Magnets

Children were exploring magnets with different materials with which the magnets will stick or not. They tried it on the metal frame around the glass. What intrigued them was that it was not sticking on the wall, but on metal objects. Irtaza had a solution. He told his educator that it could stick with tape, and he asked her for tape to stick the magnets on the wall.

Scenario:

The children went to the big ground for exploration. They were observing the deep jungle. They came across different animals that may live in the deep jungle. Muhammad Ahmad thought he heard a noise and said that the dinosaurs lived there. Nyle said, "dinos Allah k pas hain". Nyle then convinced Mikael that they are actually extinct. Mikael said, "Only the T-rex is alive; the rest are dead."

When Mikael returned to his community, he sat in the atelier and started drawing a dinosaur. He drew a "diplodocus." When asked where it lived, Mikael replied, "When humans came, then fire came and destroyed the dinosaur world. Meteoroids came from space and killed all the dinosaurs." He said, "When we were not in the city, the dinosaurs were alive. Diplodocus has four feet. It only eats plants and leaves. It cannot eat meat; only the T-rex can eat meat." The educator inquired why it doesn't eat meat. Mikael replied, "It has a very small tummy, that's why it can't eat meat." The educator asked what the T-rex looked like. He said, "T-rex has small arms. T-rex eats all the dinosaurs, and that's why they (diplodocus and T-rex) are not friends." Later he added, "It (T-rex) was biting Triceratops when the meteoroid killed them. A meteoroid is a fiery circle. It's a rock."

Sikandar: They are dead by the Asteroid.

Mikeal: No T-Rex is alive.

Sikandar: No! Asteroid is strong they also died and when we give fossils to the museum and they give money.

M.Ahmed: You know there are fossils in my backyard.

Mikeal: yes me too.

Sikandar: yes! but humans were on earth and dinos were in the dino world.

Mikael: No they were not allah mian made city in two days and then people came

Then, they all started creating a timeline of who came first: dinosaurs, humans, the city, or the Titanic.

The teacher suggested, "How about we go outside and search for dinosaur fossils?" The kids went out and found some bricks and stones that they believed were fossils because, according to them, fossils are white.

Sikandar: Fossils are in the big holes. This is a garden fossil lives in a garden.

They started digging and found bricks and then

M.ahmed: No, they are just dirty.

Mikael: dino bones are white

Sikandar: this is a brick

They collected the bricks they thought were fossils and took them to class.

Power Rangers fight Snail Invasion

A few weeks ago, a new superhero team emerged in EY2 our young superheroes Musa, Izhaan, Maham, and Mehdi are part of this play. It all began in the school gardens with a gentle shower of rain, which, in turn, beckoned a silent invasion of snails. With keen observation, our young heroes foresaw a looming threat – snails encroaching upon their cherished school grounds, inch by inch, eventually finding their way into the very heart of the school, sending shivers down the spines of their friends.

In the face of this creeping peril, these brave young minds decided to don the mantle of power rangers, sworn to protect their friends and peers from the encroaching snail army. Their journey began with animated brainstorming sessions keeping paw petrol cartoons in their memory, where they envisioned heroic costumes and ingenious tools that would empower them to face this.

However, these young visionaries did not stop at mere ideas; they embarked on a journey of creative ingenuity. Armed with empty toilet paper rolls, connector wands, and construction hats with each twist, turn, and connection, they forged tools that would aid them in their mission. In this ongoing pretend-play venture they use roundies in our classroom as police cars and they even play siren using their voice on different pitches. The play did not stop even when they went out on the lawn they used wooden blocks to make police cars and rescue their friends from snails.

Thus, the Super Paw Petrol Team came into being, their valor undisputed as they embarked on their quest. To the unsuspecting eye, it appeared as though they were merely at play, but in reality, they stood guard, protecting their friends with unwavering dedication.

We also have a dialogic meeting on how to take it forward further fueled by the belief that students should be given prompts to create their own gadgets .

Due to their high interest in Magnets sticking together phenomenon it was taken further forward by introducing them with more materials. The Educator set a display tray containing plastic cutlery, pebbles, Magnets with handles, black Magnets, bottle caps and paper clips. We showed a video of a child playing with Magnets. Hibban, Aahil, Zunaira and Zainab were part of the group who wanted to take part in the engagement. Hibaan took the round big magnet and stuck the paper clips on it. He said ' ye donut hai'.
Aahil was very intrigued by the bottle caps itself. Zainab took all the materials given and explored them with the magnet handles if they stick or not. She made really specific designs out of the handles. Zunaira was interested to put everything together in one place. Pareesa and irtaza joined later for a while. Irtaza liked the video so he tried to do what the child did in the video and stuck the paper clips on the magnet handles. Pareesa put all the bottle caps on the Magnets.

I have been noticing Arfa's keen interest in scissor work. I decided to give her some prompts for her to experiment with different textured materials. I gave Arfa and Zirwa trays and scissors. We then went out to our small EY ground. There, they started cutting the grass first. Then they proceeded to cut plants. "Geela pata (dry leaf) sakht hai paper ki tarha.. dusra pata( green leaf) soft hai." Arfa observed.

Earlier they learnt the sound 'S' in their Phonics class. Arfa traced the alphabet with her fingers on the sand. Amused by the light coming from beneath the table, "Dekho meri tho light banri hai" Exclaimed Zirwa.

A few days ago Arfa was hiding stones in sand so she asked me to get her stones. "Stones thoray se le ao usko chupai ge" I got a bunch of small stones for her which she started hiding in the sand. Zirwa followed her.

At the end, both of them wanted to seperate the sand from the leaves. I asked them how can we do that? They started doing that with their hands. I put two strainers beside them if they wanted to use as they had already used them in the past. Both of them picked the strainers and poured all the mixture in them. Then they started filtering pure sand particles out of it. Arfa's sand finished and Zirwa said "me apna de du?" "Aur lena hai?" They worked this through by sharing with each other.

Zirwa showed a lot of interest in stones. Almost everyday when we would pass our pathway leading towards the lunch area, she would pick different stones and say "beautiful stone" It was one of her hobby to collect stones. I noticed her collection was very selective. One day I took them up in the main ground with a basket. As expected she started putting in different stones in it. It was evident that she was picking stones that were mostly round, had a prominent shape or were colorful. When she was done picking her stones she said "Ab hum neechy chalty hain"

When we went downstairs to our class, I had already told Baji to set up their paint station. "Paint krna hai" Said Arfa. I gave them papers to paint on. Additionally i placed their stone basket beside them on the table. I asked both of them why they like stones? "Stones ko colour krti hu" said Arfa. "Stones mjy yummy lagty hain. Stones sweet hain" added Zirwa aswell. Gradually they shifted from the paper to the stones. They started painting their stones different colours from green to red to brown. Both of them gathered their stones at the end and placed them on their cupboard so they stay safe.

As of now Zirwa's interest in stones was evident to me. I took a plain white chart paper and drew different shapes on it.(lines,triangle,square,zigzag, circle etc) Then we went outside to collect stones in our EY ground. Earlier that day Zirwa was playing with glitter paper. She said "isko yeh walay shtickers lagaty hain stones k upar" I placed the stones, glitter paper and scissor for her on the table.

At first Zirwa started moving her round steel cup filled with the stones around the chart. She stopped it on the circle where it traced on it perfectly. Then she started putting the stones on the lines. She started with the triangle, then moved to the square and zigzag etc. "Hum isko bhi kre ge, isko bhi, isko bhi.." she said while doing it.

Suddenly Zirwa said "Stones ko gira dete" She removed some of her traced stones. Then she told me to help her with cutting the stickers. I cut straight lines. She then started putting those lines on the different shapes. I asked her how would she put the straight lines on the round circle, to which she said "Line lagaty hain, apko kr k dekhata hu" she outlined the circle with straight lines aswell.

At the end Zirwa wanted to stick the stones on the chart aswell. At first she tried doing it with the sticky side of the glitter paper. But that didnt last. I brought tape for her to try. She then cut the tape with scissor and started sticking the stones on the chart paper. After experimenting with everything, whether it be stones tracing, sticky paper, stones sticking, she was atlast done and satisfied with her work.

Arfa loved playing with sand. "Upar jana hai mitti se khelne" she would ask me often. They specifically liked playing with the sand infront of the bench beside the main ground. Almost everyday I would take them upstairs. At times the sun would be too strong to which Arfa said "mitti thandi hai", insisting on staying there. One one of our visit Zirwa had an idea "Hum mitti k toys bnai ge"

Following her lead i brought their clay containers downstairs to our class. I had a jug filled with water ready for them. Moreover, I added different shaped molds(star, tree, butterfly etc)
They both first poured the water in the clay container. Mixed it well, observing closely how its consistency is changing. "Me ata bana rahi hu!" Exclaimed Arfa. They made balls by rolling the now thick clay. They also made different shapes with their hands and then gradually shifted to the molds. According to them they were making toys. Arfa and Zirwa pressed the mold on the clay and were delighted at how it came out with the exact same shapes.

At first, Zumba wasn't on the list, and it seemed like it might stay that way. But the children refused to back down, and in the end, democracy won! It all started with an enlightening discussion during their morning meeting. And then, EY-2, with their young minds, had a brilliant idea: the Dancing Bed.

This special bed can do many things: it can turn into a Zumba station when the children want to dance. It becomes a pretend jail when they play cops and robbers. And, guess what? It can also be a rocket ship, taking their imaginations to space!

Exploration: Musa, Mehdi, Maryam, Maham, and Aahil opened their own ice cream shop. They had yummy ice cream flavors and tasty treats like doughnuts and cupcakes. More children joined in the fun, and everyone had a blast.

Reflection: I noticed that children like the idea of being responsible and having authority. They feel good about themselves when they’re in charge or have control.

It was free play time. Children were playing in the piazza before their morning meeting. Pareesa sat near the pretend-play corner trying to read a book. As her eyes wandered off, she noticed a very furry caterpillar next to the window.

“It’s a snake”, said Pareesa.

The caterpillar crawled forward and fell on the floor and curled up instantly.

“Now it’s a puddle”, said Pareesa.

Rayaan joined later. He kept observing the caterpillar. “It has no legs”, he said.

Rayaan took a toy phone and pretended to call other children. He told them about the furry caterpillar. A few minutes later, Ahmad, Zaha, Anaaya, Younus, Maria and Abdullah gathered around the caterpillar and started observing it.

The caterpillar crawled towards Younus. “He likes Younus”, said Ahmad.

“He has stopped moving”, said Maria.

Reflection: One reflection is on the children's natural curiosity and sense of wonder. When Pareesa first saw the caterpillar, she didn't immediately know what it was. She called it a snake, and then a puddle. This shows that she was trying to make sense of what she was seeing by comparing it to things that she already knew.

Another reflection is on the importance of peer learning. When Rayaan joined Pareesa, he started to observe the caterpillar as well. He noticed that it didn't have any legs. He then took a toy phone and pretended to call other children to tell them about the caterpillar. This shows that Rayaan was excited about his discovery and wanted to share it with others.

Caterpillar on window sill update 2

The caterpillar had now crawled next to the charpaai. The children gathered around it again. This time they started talking to it.

“...kidar ja rhay ho bhai jaan”, said Zaha.

“...kidar ja rhay ho brother”, laughed Ahmad.

“Bhai jaan, bhai jaan…”, everybody joined in.

Abdullah nudged it with a paper plane to check if he moved or not.

“He’s curling around”, said Maria.

Everybody started tapping their fingers around the caterpillar, to check if it responds to the sound. Elhaan brought a tiny glass jar to trap it inside. She placed the jar on top of it, trapping it.

“Ye phass gae hai”, said Anaaya.

“It can’t breathe”, said Maria.

Elina stood behind the group, observing quietly. She went to the reading corner and brought a heavy binded book. All of them moved aside, while Eli put the book on the floor. Abdullah nudged the caterpillar with his paper plane to shift it on the book but it didn’t work.

“hum patli book rakhte hain”, said Fatima, passing the book to Eli. Eli put the thin book on the floor and tried scooping it on top. Haider then placed the thick book closer to it to check if it crawled from one book to the other. It didn’t. Teacher Zunera brought a transparent jar. Fatima and Elhaan put the caterpillar inside it by sliding the book next to the jar.

Reflections: The children tried to understand the caterpillar and its behavior, and they used their imaginations to come up with ways to interact with it. They nudged it with a paper plane, tapped their fingers around it, and tried to trap it in a glass jar. These experiments showed that the children were curious about the caterpillar's physical characteristics and behavior. They were also trying to figure out how to interact with the caterpillar without harming it. When Elina brought a heavy book to trap the caterpillar, the other children recognized that this was a bad idea. They pointed out that the caterpillar would not be able to breathe under the book. This showed that the children had some understanding of the caterpillar's needs.

Ahmed’s dinosaur

Ahmed absolutely loves dinosaurs. He has a cool dinosaur bag, dinosaur shoes, and nearly all his clothes have dinosaurs on them. 🦖

At the beginning of the term, he was quite nervous about his drawing abilities and often relied on me for help.

But with determination and plenty of support, Ahmed has made incredible strides in his drawing skills. Today, he's creating remarkable masterpieces with confidence and skill!! I’m so proud of him and it makes me happy to see him flourish. 🌻

Our children in the morning meeting discussed the movement of the caterpillar. They acted like a caterpillar and started crawling to show the wiggly and tricky movement of the caterpillar. They began moving and jumping like a caterpillar.

Later, they started observing it with a magnifying glass. Zaha said, "I can see its big legs." Mirhan added, "Something so spiky." Educator then placed the caterpillar on the table so that everyone could see it.

Ahmed, using a magnifying glass with his little hands, said, "Oh, it looks like a mini furry teddy bear." Sarmeer, after observing it for a long time, said, "Look, ma'am, it looks like a big snake with the magnifying glass." Anaya then added, "He is so fat; it feels like he has eaten so much food this morning." Eli said, "I think he's got a baby."

It all started with us going to the light and shadow room. I placed different coloured celophane paper, scissors, alphabets, round transparent plastic containers and mixture of sand, leaves and grass. For a while they were playing with the materials. I deliberately showed them how the colour of the room changed from white to green as i placed and removed the green celophane paper on and off the shadow table. They were confused as to why this was happening when I asked them.

Pareesa constructs a McDonald’s

We then asked them if they knew how honey was made, and Rafael said “honey bees flower se nectar leti hain aur nectar se honey banate hain”. We then gently prompted the children and asked them if they knew how honey bees made their houses to which Hibband said “mitti se banti hai”, and Subhan said “patte aur mitti se banti hai”. We talked further about how else could honey bees make their house and Hibban said “rasiyon se bhi ban sakte hai.” The children are intrigued with the concept of a home

Our coordinator intervened and told the kids come I will show you something cool. She took Zirwa inside in one of our classes and showed her hand shadows that were forming on the wall with the torch light. Zirwa was very intrigued by this. Arfa followed her lead and started making shadows with her hands aswell. I asked them how are the shadows forming to which they both had a conversation back and forth.
Zirwa: Room dark hai isliye hota hai yeh
Arfa: Zirwa me apko crocodile ka shadow bana k dekhau?
Zirwa: Aesy straight aur aesy..

I asked again "Mere se nae bna rha ap btao"
Zirwa: Wall k pas le k jata phr shadow ban jata

They kept on experimenting different shapes with their hands, sometimes dragging the torch towards the wall and sometimes away.

In the meeting, the teacher again showed them the fossil basket and reminded them about last exploration mikael sikandar, and M.Ahmed they sorted through the fossils, removing those they believed were not actually fossils.

Sikandar: put this aside this is not a fossil.

Mikeal: look this is a T-Rex teeth. Let's go and wash all of them. They are dirty.

Kids went to wash them.

M.ahmed: maybe its baba haha these fossils are taking shower

Then they put all of them in a basket and took it back to the class and left it to dry.

Slimy snails

Haania had a special request, "Ma'am Maham, can I take two snails home to show my mom?

One morning, the children and I managed to collect around 18 snails from the school ground. As the day unfolded, the children channeled their creativity, transforming their newfound fascination into beautiful and imaginative drawings. My favourite was the one where Ahmed drew a rainbow on his snail. 🐌 🌈

After showing the children the honeycomb, Hibban wanted to build one. He told his educator “‘Ma’am, honeybees ka ghar hum rasion se bana sakte hain.” When we asked them what else would they need, Hibban said “shovels bhi chahiye hongi.” They decided to gather all the ropes and shovels from their room and go make the honeybee home. Hibban found a hook in the small community ground and asked Shehnaz baji to start tying the rope. He then took the rope and ran to the grill and tied it there. He took the rope to many different parts of the Early Years Community Ground. Younis also took part in this adventure as he took different parts of the rope to the community, while Arfa from EY-1 and Zunaira from EY-2 helped in untangling the web of ropes and strings intertwined together. Subhan took the ropes and ran across the ground, finding the perfect place to tie his part of the ropes. At the very end, Azlaan and Hibban tied the ropes on the stair case, and they said that "honeybees ka ghar poora ho gya hai, ab ise kal khoobsoorat banaye gay". But the fun was not over for the children. After they were done for the day, Azlaan and Hibban looked beyond the fence and they asked their educator "ma'am peechay pehle janwar hote they, woh kidher gye hain?". Their educator said she was not sure, to which Azlaan confidently told everyone around him that he saw wolves and honey bees in Nathiagali.

The children quickly moved on to making their own house with ropes. Rafael told his educator “meri birthday hai aur me idher balloons lagara hai.” The children followed suit and started to tie rope around the fence, and Rafael asked is educator to sing him the 'Happy Birthday' song.

Constructing a Crane

One day, Musa found a kitten from the pretend play area and he immediately developed a bond with it. He wanted to create a special home for the kitten, so he took it outside and gathered some building blocks from outside. He used these blocks to build a cozy home with many rooms, he also made secret rooms for the cat to explore and hide if she gets scared. Musa said " kitten yahan sy secret room mai jaegi, phir yahan sy nikal k doosrey secret room mai jaegi." He even made a garden and a terrace for the kitten to enjoy, he also said "he also needs a sofa to sit" I asked " ghar mai sofa nahi hai?" Then he replied "ghar chota hai usmn sofa nahi hai" . He placed three blocks aside and said, "This block is for cat food, this one is for milk, and this one is for water." After eating, the kitten explored more hidden rooms. Musa's friend Zaroon joined in and shared ideas, making it an exciting adventure for days to come.

Educator: "Why not? Let's talk about a Dino tooth today. How does it look?"

Mikael then added: "I know how it looks; they are so big, even bigger than you, Ma'am."

Educator: "Dinosaurs lived in the jungle. Let's go out to find a Dino tooth."

Sikandar: "Look, I got a Dino tooth, guys!"

Ahmed: "It is not a Dino tooth; it's just a stone. The Dino tooth is golden in color."

Abdullah, with a shovel in his hand, said: "Let's start digging; maybe we'll find its tooth."

Ahmed then added: "You have to dig deeper and deeper if you want a Dino tooth." Abdullah found a muddy piece of wood and started cleaning it with his shirt, saying, "I got the tooth! I got the tooth!"

Mikael then said: "We can find a Dino tooth in the deep, deep jungle. We will go one day to find that, and don't forget to take your shovels with you."

' Ik poisonous ant kitchen area sai Mila hai ' said anaya
' It was trying to escape when Baji put it in the bottle ' said Mikeal
' Let's name it Bobby' cried Anaya with excitement
' Bobby you are my best friend ' Zaha said with a beaming smile
' It's so naughty ' she giggled
' We have to give him some leaves ' said Ahmed
' We can't see its eyes because it's so black ' Mikeal
Ahmed explained to everyone why Bobby was poisonous
' Because it has big ears and legs '

The children were excitedly carrying the jar around and were taking turns to stare at it .
' When we clap the jar it goes down' Ahmed said with amusement
He told the whole class about it while he constantly tapped the bottle to moniter the movement.

Then Mikeal and Mohammad Ahmed and Abdullah went outside to gather some leaves for Bobby.
Mikeal very gently put the leaves inside the bottle and the educator helped him secure the top for him.
He sat on the drawing station and kept gazing and he played with it. He moved the bottle up and down to watch how the ant travels up and down.
Ahmed then joined him and took the jar to the morning steps where all the children came nearer.
' Bobby is dancing . He wants to party' said Ahmed
' It is singing I m a Barbie girl in the Barbie world' Ahmed said shyly
All the children stayed giggling and Anaya and Zaha started singing the song.
The educator asked the children if they could show the ant's movement and Mikeal and Ahmed wiggled their hands and bodies pretending to be Bobby. Aman also joined them and did few moves .
' Bobby sing a song for us ' exclaimed Abdullah
The children then decided to give Bobby a rest and handed the bottle to the educator to keep it safe.

According to Mikeal and Ahmed the Bobby will survive for nine days only and on the tenth day it will be dead.

" Ma'am ma'am plz come outside, we have something to show you "
He held the educator's hand and went outside. Aman and Amin has made a tyre swing with the help of Baji and they were jumping with excitement.
The Baji was holding the rope on the stairs while the tyre was hanging and Amin was sitting on it.
" look ma'am it's a swing " he said
" yeah it's amazing " replied the educator
Aman was smiling with his bunny teeth showing and he said
" we made it ourselves"
The Baji too seemed happy.
Few other children also gathered around and were admiring the swing. And then
Amin was about to get up from the tyre and before anyone else could try the rope got loose and the tyre fell down.
The children bursted in laughter.

In the morning meeting next day we talked about how they built a honeybee house from ropes and than a Scorpio house. They observed a snail and a hairy caterpillar they called it, earlier in the morning, they wanted to build their homes.
The Educator asked if they have some ideas for building their houses. Hibaan idea was to build it from leaves keeping them on each other and the snails in the middle. One of the leave would be a door. Subhan said he will join some sticks to make the house. Azlaan said he will be using rocks and pebbles for building the house. Outside they played with mud, water and tyres. Coming inside painting station was set for everyone. They had a discussion that they will paint insects houses but most of them did free painting. Only zunaira and dua managed to paint an insect house.

Snails Ka Ghar Update 5

Everyone was excited to be outside. Digging around with their shovels. Educator zainab started digging with the shovel in the mud. Subhan said "Mai apki help karta hon, mai aya he srf apki help karnay k liy tha. Mai na ata tw ap mje miss krti." The Educator suggested we can use tiles today. Hibaan took a bamboo thing put a snail inside it and said "hm snail ka ghar bnai gain tb tk ye is mai safe rahay ga." He filled it with mud to keep the snail save and warm inside. Subhan and the Educator built a snail house with tiles . Four walls, one ceiling and two snails inside (brought by hibaan). Hibaan and subhan brought water as well to soften the earth for easier digging so that the tiles can stand perfectly and won't fall. Dua was making a Scorpio house which was her filling a bowl with the mud. Hibaan and Subhan brought more snails for the house and kept putting them inside it carefully between the gaps.
Sometimes suggestions can be given, subtly, to move things forward.

Talking to the Moon- Why was the moon outside in the morning? ( A Dialogue)

Scenario
The girls wanted to explore caterpillars in the big garden upstairs so they wore their imaginary exploring hats and off they went with the educator.
Somehow that day the caterpillars decided not to come outside and the girls were clueless about that.
They kept searching for them running from one corner to the other.
They bent down and with the help of a twig tried digging the sand
' we can't find any caterpillars' said Maria
' I think they have gone home for winters' said Anaya
They were determined to find ' some thing ' so they decided to broaden their options .
' ma'am look, I found a snail shell ' said Ilhaan
This gave them a little hope so they went on with their search.
After few minutes a big flower tree near the forest caught their attention.
' can we collect some flowers ?' asked Fatima
' yes of course!' replied the educator with a smile
' and some leaves too?!' Zaha asked
' absolutely ' the educator answered
So the girls got busy plucking flowers and leaves and they handed over to the educator to keep it safe.
' let's take this fruit too' said Maria
She found grape like mini clusters hanging on the tree.
With their little hands they cupped the flowers and put them in the educator's notebook.
The sun was too bright and after a while they decided to head back once they felt they had collected enough.

On their return to the community the team flower decided to paste them on papers to make cards.
All the material that they had collected was put in the table and glue sticks were given to them .
They started pasting them in different patterns
' it's not sticking ' said Ilhaan in a worrisome tone
' how about if u press the flowers gently and wait for few seconds this mite work ' the educator suggested gently
It worked and a smile came on her face .
Eliana also decided to join them and started making her own card .
' pass me the glue' said little anaya while she adjusted her glasses.

They looked happy making their own creations.
Thankfully flowers saved the day 😉

Zainab and Zunaira explored all of the materials with the handle Magnets. They even explored their heads if the Magnets would stick on the hair. I asked them the question as Why is the magnet sticking to one spoon but not the other even though they both are spoons? Zainab answered the question. " Kyu k ye lakri ka hai". She came to the conclusion that Magnets only stick with Metal.

Pareesa and hibaan came from outside and wanted to be the part of the exploration. They stuck two magnets together on their shirt. Even though it was a shirt they figured out a way to stick the magnets on it.

Mermaid changeling

Amelia was pretending to be a baby, talking baby talk "googoo gaagaa". Then she spotted Musa's boat and decided to transform into a mermaid ; "this baby can become a mermaid too". She sat in her "mermaid house" (stacked tyres), the lawn became the sea and at some point she spotted "a sea butterfly". She appointed me as her mother- the Princess, as well as her grandmother- the Queen of the Sea, instructing me about when to switch roles from princess to queen. Whenever she would address the queen, she'd make a small bow and add a "your highness". The mermaid came to the queen to complain about a "pirate who was throwing sand in the sea"; "it even got into my baby sister's eyes!". The pirate in question was Aahil, who was busy digging the Earth.

Going Fishing on a Boat

In line with previous pretend play about fishing, Musa asked me if he could take some rope outside. Curious to see what he intended to do with it, I told him yes. After lunch, when we were going outside, he stood by the door and reminded me about the rope. Once outside with the rope, Musa got a long wooden block, the same one him and his peers previously used as pretend fishing rods, and asked me to tie a length of rope to it. Thus we had a fishing rod with the handle as well as the string.
He then set out to make a boat. First, he covered the large tyres with the long wooden blocks, covering the hollow part. He then sat on the blocks, fishing rod in his hand, and patiently sat down to catch some fish.

While covering the tyre, this is the conversation Musa had with me:

Musa: "Aap ko pata hai ye mai kyun cover kar raha hoon?
Me: kyun?
Musa: neechay swimming pool wala basement hai, upar mai ne sticks rakhay hain taakay acha lagay. Jab shark aajayega hum boat ko bhaga letay hain.

Then he tried to expand his boat by placing blocks on both sides. Unfortunately at this point, the blocks on the first tyre fell. However, he didnt get upset. He merely said "boat yahan se thoot raha hai, dhoob jae ga", and fixed the boat, and also added blocks to the other two tyres. Now he had a much bigger boat, and sat down to fish again.

Going hiking

While outdoors, the children were provided with chalks to graffiti on the pavement and blocks. For a while, the children were quite immersed in that. However, at one point i noticed quite a few children were deliberatel crushing chalk by stomping on them, crushing them with stones and blocks etc. I decided to inquire about what the children intended to do with the crushed chalk. Mostly, they didn't have an answer, however, Ibrahim said we can make cement by mixing the crushed chalk and water and stirring with a stick. So the next day, I decided to set up a provocation by provided chalk, bowls and plates, some water, popsicle sticks and small wooden logs. All of EY-3 were drawn to the set up, and they thoroughly enjoyed the process of crushing, gathering the fine powder and mixing/stirring. Ibrahim called his mixture "cement" and even spread it on one of the blocks and then stacked another block on top.

Free bakery and cheese shop

While outdoors, I noticed that Amelia and Musa would regularly go stand behing the railings and call out "free bakery/free cheese". I decided to engage in their pretend play as a new customer. Musa asked me which type of cheese I would like. When I asked what's on the menu, he answered with "goat cheese". I asked if I have to pay for it, he said "no it's free". Then i approached Amelia's shop. She asked what I would like, how much I want "would you like takeaway?".

This went on for a long time, with the two regularly standing at their spots. Sometimes, they added variations like "there's no goat cheese available" (M) or "it's not free it's 100 rupees" (A) and "the shop has closed forever" (M) only to open again in a little while.

We observed something exciting happening during our free playtime. We saw that they were really interested in roads, so we decided to join in and play with them too!

I asked them questions like, "What do you like about roads?" and "Where do you think roads can take us?" They shared their ideas and thoughts, and it was so much fun to talk about roads together. We realized that roads can lead us to exciting places like the park, our friends' houses, and even the ice cream shop!

The next morning during our special morning meeting, we told them, "We had so much fun playing with all of you and talking about roads. Roads are like big paths for cars and trucks, and they can take us on adventures. We'll learn more about roads and all the exciting things we can do with them in the days to come." We were so happy that our interest in roads turned into a fun learning experience, and we couldn't wait to explore more about this topic with our amazing educator!

It was hot morning in late summer. The sun was super strong but then, out of nowhere, big clouds appeared, and the wind started blowing. It got really nice outside, not too hot anymore, just perfect.

All the kids got so excited that they ran to the EY lawn. They were laughing, running around, and even dancing and singing. Amin faced the strong blowing wind, stretched his arms out and said, "Look, I'm flying!" Everyone thought it was funny and tried to fly too.

They were having so much fun, being outside and not stuck in their classrooms. But suddenly, it started raining really fast. The teachers rushed them back inside to stay dry and safe. Some kids wanted to play in the rain, but most went inside.

Once they were back in the classroom, they all settled at the drawing station. They took out crayons and paper and started drawing their own pictures of a rainy day. It was a fun way to enjoy the rain without getting wet.

The educator assisted the children with her phone torch that helped them have a closer look.
' Oh it's a beetle ' Aman said said was standing at the corner
This discovery sounded believable to the children and they called it "slimy slimy insect "

Suddenly they noticed that the light on the phone was making a shadow
Mikeal brought a dinosaur toy from his bag and played with it enjoying the shadow show. While the other kids used their hands to see their different movements.
Brief however but those few minutes were very exciting.

The morning turned out to be really interesting and it gave a lot of positive energy to the children.
They had just said hello to the beetle 🐞

The kids were thinking a lot about snails and wanted to find more of them. So, the very next day, they kept their eyes open to see if they could find any. Zaha, Maria, Haider, and Amna discovered a snail on the main door. They gathered around it, watching closely as the snail crawled up the wall.

Zaha observed, "The snail is going to its home."

Suddenly, Ahmed accidentally tapped the snail, causing it to retreat into its shell. Zaha came up with an idea, "Let's put a bandage on it," and they all agreed, making sure the bandage was round to fit.
Meanwhile, Haider ventured into the community garden and brought back another snail to their drawing station. Their teacher suggested they draw the snail, and Haider, along with Zaviyar and Mikael, took out their drawing materials.

Haider started his drawing by creating a spiral shape, while Zaviyar decided to draw the side view of the snail, emphasizing its brown protective shell. In a playful moment, Zaviyar even held up his drawing to the snail, saying, "I'm showing my drawing to the snail."

Haider, curious about the snail's reaction, gently touched it with colored pencils. Each time he did so, the snail would retract into its shell. The children were fascinated by their interaction with the snail, making it a memorable and educational experience.

Maria thought, "I think he's trying to find his mama."

Elhaan agreed, "Yes, he's hungry, that's why he's looking for his mama."

M.Ahmed suggested, "His mama must be in the jungle. We should feed him."

Then, Sarmeer joined them and had an idea: "Let's keep this caterpillar in a jar." Elhaan and Maria carefully placed the caterpillar inside a plastic jar.

Sarmeer proposed, "Let's put some leaves in the jar so he can eat," and they brought the jar inside.
The next day, Elhaan found another snail, and Aman made a discovery as well - not just another caterpillar, but also an ant. The teachers decided to keep all these insects in separate containers and made sure to provide holes for them to breathe. It was an exciting adventure of discovery and care for these young explorers.

In the morning meeting, we talked about our last adventure.

Mikeal shared, "Insects die when we put them in jars."

M. Ahmed had an idea, "We can keep insects in the garden."

Mikael shared an interesting fact, "Did you know army ants only live in the jungle? They eat animals, especially those that are sleeping."

M. Ahmed added, "They're super speedy, even faster than cheetahs. They have their homes in little caves deep inside the jungle, and they only come out to eat when it's nighttime."

Nyle had a different perspective, "They also eat in the morning."

Mikeal expressed a bit of worry, "They can be pretty dangerous. They come in black, brown, and white colors. But don't worry, they only eat animals, not humans."

M. Ahmed continued, "Army ants live in large families.

Sikandar let his imagination run wild, "Army ants have a parachute, a gun, and even a protective helmet. If a wolf tries to eat them, the helmet shields them. They can jump really high, ma'am. They've got special gear for their hands, legs, shirts, and even wear a crown on their heads."

Mikael chimed in, "Army ants have a unique way of walking. They move backward and have three legs with spikes on their backs."

After this exciting discussion, the kids went outside to hunt for army ants. Unfortunately, they couldn't find any.

M. Ahmed suggested, "Maybe they live deep in the mud. Let's try digging."

Mikeal disagreed, saying, "No, they live even deeper."

Sikandar concluded, "They hide very well, living deep underground." Despite their efforts, the army ants remained hidden, leaving the children with a mystery to solve another day.

After their discussion, the kids went outside again to search for army ants but couldn't find any. Instead, they came across a frog in the small garden and started observing it closely. The teacher filmed the frog's movements.

When I inquired why he was "cutting" the tree, he explained, "Trees ur mud mai log treasures hide krtay hain." Subsequently, he embarked on "cutting" the wood in search of treasure. Afterward, he stacked boxes on top of each other.

Later, we ventured indoors, where he carefully selected a treasure box for me to draw, which he planned to color himself. He then revealed his intention to hang it between the trees.

The following day, I set up some provocations for the children, concealing coins and a key around the trees for them to discover. Aima and Musa also joined in the fun. Musa uncovered three coins, while Aima found the remaining ones. They also located the key and exclaimed, "This is the key to the treasure." However, Ibrahim pointed out, "this key is plastic treasure ki key gold ki hoti hai, plastic key sy nahin khulay ga" Ibrahim also said " k pehlay log maps sy treasure dhundtay thay ."

Ibrahim came up with an intriguing idea. He placed the coins and key in a bowl and securely attached it to his treasure box with tape, explaining, "I taped it so no one can take my khazana."

The children got a surprise when we took them to the main entrance area. We gave them some chalks and asked them to draw whatever they liked. They eagerly sat down on the floor, looking like little artists, and started drawing with all sorts of colorful chalks.

Excitedly, the girls shouted, "We're making a rainbow road!" Maria explained, "I have a house on the road, and I'm making a door for it." Zaha said, "This is the home." Elhaan suggested, "Now let's make some buildings." Fatima added, "Rainbow road is a magical road."Mirhan was very focused on creating a tall structure, and when I asked, she told me it's a hotel. I was really impressed by their creativity and unique ideas.I went from one child to another, asking about their drawings. I asked Ahmed, "Why is your road empty?" He answered, "Because it's closed for construction," and pointed to the dashes he'd drawn, saying, "These are the sidewalks."Amin drew a picture of a swimming pool and asked me to take a photo of it. The children had a lot of fun with this activity, and the gentle morning sun made it a perfect start to the day.

To further explore shadows I took Zirwa and Arfa upstairs where there is a lot of sunlight. I put some blocks on a white paper which casted their shadows on the opposite side. Zirwa and Arfa started moving the blocks to see how their shadow will move along with them.

Going outside. Dua, hibaan and subhan made a sandcastle for the insects putting grass on it and a stick in the middle. Subhan brought all the grass for the house to be green. Added rocks for a nicer effect. Hibaan wanted to add kicharh but dua said no. Rafeal brought grass for the house of insects which he said "nai ghas nai pauda hai".

Dua told hibaan " itna brha Rock nai daalo toot jaiga ghar". They added wild flowers for beauty touch and subhan added leaves too. They decided together they can add big rocks outside for the protection of the house and pebbles above the house. Educator asked what about the insects? Hibaan said "wo khud ajain gain ghar mai".

The ants were working together, carefully balancing the popcorn on their backs as they climbed. Zaha and Haider soon joined us and shared their thoughts. Haider said, 'Ants kha rahain hai,' and Zaha wondered, 'Us ko bhook lagi hai.'Our amazement grew when we saw the popcorn disappearing into a small hole in the wall, which left the children astonished. But we soon realized that it wasn't the popcorn moving on its own; it was the ants' hard work that was making it go in and out of the hole. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and they wanted to join in the dance. Amin, who had been playing the drum, observed the girls' interest and started playing the drum more fervently. It appeared that Amin was responding to the girls' request and was ready to provide the rhythm for their impromptu dance session. The classroom turned into a dynamic and vibrant place, with children actively engaging in various activities, from playing the drums to dancing and jumping with joy.

Ahmad then introduced the idea of "freeze" while everyone was dancing, and Amin, being quick on his feet, picked up on the cue and started playing the drums accordingly. When Ahmad said "freeze," Amin stopped playing, and everyone pretended to be "frozen." Then, Ahmad grabbed two wooden blocks and began banging them together to make sounds, adding to the drum's rhythm. Soon, the rest of the class joined in, with Haider also grabbing two blocks to become part of the music-playing group. As the play continued, one by one, everyone who had been "frozen" during the dance joined the music-playing group, and the whole class became involved in creating music with the drum and blocks. Only a few children were left dancing in the piazza. Finally, Amin got up to show his coolest dance moves, adding another layer of fun and excitement to the ongoing musical performance.

It's a beautiful day, and the girls wanted to play outside," as usual, their minds are activated, and they found a very interactive engagement for themselves. She sat on the tire swing and proudly declared, "Ma'am, this is our swing and this is our shade." She pointed towards the tree they had gathered around. "We won't need an umbrella when it rains because we already have a shade. "We are the guards," Anaya and Maria chimed in as they continued to work diligently with stones and shovels. Mirhan, with her hands full of colorful flowers, carefully placed them inside the tire swing, which was already half-filled with stones. Their laughter and camaraderie were truly heartwarming. "The queen has arrived," Fatima announced with authority. "Maria is also the queen because she doesn't have a shovel," she said, ensuring that everyone was included. I couldn't help but admire how they took charge and radiated such confidence. These moments make me appreciate the joy and imagination of childhood.
The play is going well, with each of them taking turns to be the queen on the swing. Maria volunteered, "I'm going to water the plants for the queen." Anaya graciously thanked her. As raindrops began to fall, Anaya cautioned, "Come into the shade; it's raining." Maria calmly replied, "Yeah, don't worry, I'm already in the shade. Ibrahim's Amazing Car

This all began when I created paper boats for the children of EY-3. They took part in coloring the boats and adding their own details. Ibrahim declared, "Today is boat day, and tomorrow we'll have airplane day, followed by racing car day." The next day, Ibrahim reminded me of airplane day, and I drew an airplane for him. He colored it meticulously, creating houses and cars on the paper. Later, while we were playing outside, he asked, "Mam Moyna mai kya play krun?" I inquired, "What would you like to do?" He responded, "I don't know." So, I suggested, "It's airplane day today; let's make an airplane. He asked, "How?" I explained, "We have blocks, tires, and sticks. Think about how to build it."

He started by arranging blocks in a straight line and placed big tires next to them, referring to them as wheels. He ended up making a car instead when he noticed the wheels were larger than those of an airplane. He told me " Mam moyna it is a racing car now" and I said “ yes!! It looks a lot like a car”

He crafted seats from blocks, forming three, one of which was the driver's seat. He placed two blocks in front of the driver's seat; put a small tire on top, designating them as a "steering wheel."

He proudly declared that the car had a “Diggy”, putting blocks in the back and adding a spare tire, saying, " Agr tire puncture hogya to 1 extra tire diggy mai hoga" He even mentioned, "You need two tickets to sit in this car."

When the car was ready, Mehdi and Ahmed became the first passengers. They had a great time and didn't want to leave the car. Then after so much “Minatain” they got off and gave their seats to Maryam and Ahil who were waiting in line. Everyone was excited to ride in the car.

Zaroon joined in, calling himself the "petrol guy." He had large sticks that he referred to as a "petrol machine." He also said "ye petrol ki machine hai" and I said silently I wish we had those too. He also ssaid humorously "petrol ki tanki bht zyada full hai".When he kept adding more petrol, Ibrahim jokingly said, "Gaari phatt gayi hai kyun k ismn bht zyada petrol hogya hai." We all had a good laugh.

Ibrahim had the idea to expand the Diggy further, creating space for an extra tire. Everyone was amazed by his creativity, and even I asked if I could ride in his car, to which he happily agreed, and I enjoyed the ride too.

Rain rain come again

Today, our community had a delightful rainy day adventure! As the raindrops started falling from the sky, some of the children stood in awe, watching the magical rain come down. Amin couldn't contain his excitement, exclaiming, "It was so much fun in the rain!"

As the drizzle picked up, the children's enthusiasm grew, and they couldn't resist the temptation any longer. With joy in their hearts, they began running and twirling around in the gentle rain. They giggled and squealed as they felt the tiny raindrops on their little hands.

Mikael shared, "I love the rain because I can take a shower in it!" The children continued to dance and play in the rain, making beautiful memories on this rainy day.

In the midst of the fun, Eliana pressed her tiny hand against the window glass, showing off the raindrops outside. With a sweet smile, she said, "I love it when I go in the rain." The rain outside and the warmth inside made this day truly special for our little ones.

In the community lawn, when the children were exploring the outdoors, Dua found two snails. One was climbing the wall while the other on the ground. (There had been an inset home exploration taking place and children had been building homes for different insects)

When Dua saw that, she called Rafael to show him the snails. She decided to build the snail on the ground a home. Her idea seemed to using the leaves and grass available.

She started piling leaves and grass on the snail and Rafael started bringing pebbles to put on the house to make the house safe.

Outdoor play is an integral part of our preschool. We get the see children in their element and they are in control of their choices. Our job as educators is to provide them right material and be in the role that they need us to be.

While Ibrahim was making the trunk (diggy), Aima asked him, "Diggy mai kya rakhain gain?" Ibrahim replied, "Jo rakhtay hain." Amelia and Aima helped Ibrahim to get the tires from the ground. Then they all helped Ibrahim to put the tires in the trunk.

When the car was almost ready, I asked Ibrahim, "Is it ready?" So he said, "No, I'm just checking; ismein petrol nahi hai." Aima said, "Sirf driver petrol daaltay hain."

Then they all sat in the car on their seats. Amelia's shoes were broken, so Zala suggested, "You know a mochi can fix them, mochi k pas jatay hain gaari mai." Ibrahim agreed. He drove to the mochi shop, and everyone enjoyed the ride.

On a rainy and overcast day, with clouds covering the sky, all the children gathered on the morning steps. They started talking about the rain, which got them excited because they all liked it. Here's what they said:
Aman said, "The roads get slippery."He added, "Ice falls on it."Ahmed chimed in, "Puddles come on the road."Anaya mentioned, "Water comes on the road."Aman said, "Gatar ajata hai," which means mud appears.Ahmed said, "It's raining in school, and we should go slowly, not fast on the roads when it's raining."He also said, "There are holes in the road when it's raining."Out of the blue, Aman said that water monsters no longer exist, only zombies. This made the kids very curious. They talked about zombies living in caves, and Haider got super excited, shouting about scary monsters. Mikeal, Ahmed, and Sikander pretended to be zombies, making zombie noises. Aman pretended to be dead, saying, "Help me, I'm dead," and the girls cheered. They continued talking about zombies eating people, and Sikander mentioned that zombies are only orange and green.So, their discussion during the rainy day road exploration took a really surprising and fun turn.

They both exchanged their food amongst each other. In a while Zirwa's car came. I packed her lunch and she was about to leave but she noticed she had a handful of Dua's shared nuts. She made sure to open her lunchbox again to give Dua some of her noodles.
In this small exchange children learnt how to deal and share among themselves.

Dua made a park with pillars, houses, trees and towers. She did pretend play of two men, a father and a son, jumping from one tower to another and chasing each other. She used a big block for the father and a small one for his son.
Her towers stood on a wide base. "I made the tallest tower" she said. She used different structured blocks whether it be square, spiral, small or big. She stayed indulged in this play for atleast an hour showcasing her immense focused nature.

Children really enjoy playing in the big garden. Whenever I tell them to put on their imaginary hats and go on an adventure, they get so excited. The kids ran around in the garden, welcoming the fresh air with open arms. I sat there, just watching them, and I was amazed at how much they adore nature.Something really interesting happened. The kids decided to sit on the tree's bark and pretend it was a bus. Anaya took on the role of the bus driver. She went to each child and asked where they wanted to go. Each child had a different destination, and Anaya made sure to stop at each one, telling them it was their stop.It felt so realistic to watch them play this game as if they were on a real bus ride. Anaaya added, "I made an ice-cream shop."

Fatima chimed in, "I made a toy shop, ma'am."

Elhaan, looking at the clay, asked, "Why are we here, and what is this?" The teacher replied, "This is clay."

Elhaan inquired further, "What are we going to do?"

The teacher encouraged the children, "You tell me."

Ameen expressed his interest, "I want to play with this."

The teacher suggested, "How about you all make shops with clay together on this cardboard?" She then explained a bit about markets, stating that shops collectively form markets. The children eagerly started making their shops.

Fatima, who initially started with a flower shop, changed her idea as she explored further. She ended up creating a building with a road leading to it.

Fatima replied this is a road and a torch.

Elhaan: teach Maria how to make a road hehe.

Anaaya continued with her ice-cream shop idea quietly working on it and later decided to add different flavors to it.

The teacher provided clay and cardboard with the idea that the children could create collective shops. The ultimate goal was to guide them toward the concept that these shops, when combined, create a market space.

Then, the conversation took another turn as the children began discussing their country, Pakistan, when asked where they lived. The children enthusiastically described Pakistan with its lakes, roads, and plants.

Rayyan exclaimed, "Pakistan is mine."

M. Ahmed responded, "No, it's not only yours. You're not the king of Pakistan."

M. Ahmed continued, "You know, ma'am, Pakistan has plants that protect doors and windows from breaking. It also has mountains with pointy tops that help stop harsh winds from destroying Pakistan."

He then started making up a story, "Pakistan was once destroyed by bad people. They were Destroying Pakistan, so Allah killed them with a meteor and then made a new Pakistan, and now we live in the new Pakistan."

Everyone else in the class agreed with M. Ahmed and said, "Yes, we live in the new Pakistan."

The teacher suggested, "How about you all draw what Pakistan looks like?" The children eagerly went to the drawing station to illustrate their visions.

Our group of young girls likes to use colored pencils to put on lipstick. Usually, Haya starts this fun thing. One day, Erha came to me and said she wanted to join in but didn't know how. So, I asked Haya to help her, and it was a very nice moment.

Next day we set out a prompt in the ground. They were given some chalks and water in a cupcake tray, and some paper.
Amal, Rohan, Fatima and Zayan started engaging with it.
At first they all mixed mixed the chalk with water.

Amal enjoyed drawing with wet chalk on paper.

Later Fatima started crushing the wet chalk under her foot. Then she rubbed her hands on the crushed chalk for a while and stamped her hands on a paper.

Amal and Zayan follow her by rubbing their hands on crushed chalked and did handstamps. Zayan then crumbled that paper with handstamps and dipped it in water. He realized that squeezing water out of wet paper ball is more exciting to him.

Rohan liked the idea of squeezing water out of wet paper and joined zayan in doing so.

The children got creative with the large wooden blocks outside and it all started with Haaniya's idea. She came to me and said, "Ma'am Maham, I want to make a tractor." She then began assembling the blocks, and the other children soon joined her out of curiosity.

Maryam asked her, "Kiya bana rahi ho?" to which Haaniya replied, "Tractor bana rahi hun America jaanay ke liye." Maryam got excited, and she, along with the other children, started assisting Haaniya. Eventually, they successfully built the tractor, and the children took turns driving it.

When it was Musa's turn to drive, he came to the driver's seat and said, "Iss tractor ka engine kharab hoagaya hai, isko fix karna hai." Aahil and Maryam immediately said, "Abhi fix ker dete hein," and the children started fixing it, making it perfect for driving once more.

Later, they noticed Faizi bhai coming with with food in his hands and overheard me talking to Alishba baji, saying, "Baji khana aagaya hai, sub ke hands wash karwanay hein." Maryam then said to her passengers sitting in the tractor, "Ab issmay petrol khatam hogaya hai, isko park Ker date hein." Everyone agreed, and then we all went inside for lunch.

We added sponges in the prompt. Abrish, Umama, Nooreh and Hamza joined in too.

They all showed a pattern of either chalking the floor or paper and later cleaning it with a wet sponge or simply stamping a wet sponge on a clean paper. Abrish took it one step further and started squeezing water on the wooden block, "block geli kr rahi hun" to which Hamza commented "Main tu saaf kr raha hun", while cleaning the chalked paper with the sponge.
Umama came with a wet crumbled ball of paper and holded the educator's hand and started cleaning it "Haath saaf kr rahi hun apka, gannda hai". After that she spotted a leaf and said "esy sy leaf ko saaf krti hun".

Hamza was also enjoyed crushing the chalk and mixing water with it. Following this he stepped on the mixture and said " Pani ko saaf kr dyty hain".

We started talking, and I asked him about the story he was reading. He told me it was a scary T-rex book. He said, "issmay T-rex buhut bara hota hay, aur wo doosray walay dinosaurs ko maar deta hai. Aur jou dinosaurs udanay ki koshish kertay hein, wo bhi T-rex sey dar jatay hein"

Curious to know more, I asked him about his favorite dinosaur in the book. He replied, "Triceratops and T-rex."

After he finished reading those books, he asked for more dinosaur books because he had read these ten times! We then went to the drawing station and drew dinosaurs.

Nooreh pointed "Hey, maam look I'm sitting in a circle", she drew a circle around her with a chalk and kept sitting in it. I drew a square around me to join her in her play. She exclaimed that she wanted to sit in a square too. We drew squares around us and Umama joined us as well. Umama chose to stand in it rather than sitting. After a while Nooreh exclaimed "I have a really cool idea", which happened to be the one to make the "squares waterproof". Upon asking how can we make them waterproof, She thought for a while and said "like this", she was rubbing her finger on the square's boundary, "hurry up do like this". We rubbed the boundaries of the squares and apparently made them waterproof :')

It all began when Sultan showed me that he could jump from the tallest step. He said, "Ma'am, look, may sub sey oonchi waali jaga sey jump ker sakta hun" He did this a few times. Musa, Mehdi and Izhaan couldn't resist joining the fun. Musa exclaimed, "Ma'am Maham, I can do a power-ranger high jump," He then jumped from the third step, just like a power ranger. Izhaan said " aur may superman ke jest ker sakta hun" Mehdi, not wanting to be left out, also jumped from the third step and said, "I can do it too!"

Later, Maryam and Ahmad quickly joined their friends in the jumping fun as well.

Their collective enthusiasm for these jumps not only brought them joy but also contributed to their physical development, improving their balance, coordination, and strength.

During outdoor free-play, Ahmad asked me to bring him the animal figurines. When I handed them to him, he carefully arranged them on the block beside him and sat there, lost in thought for about 5-10 minutes. As I observed him from a distance, I couldn't help but wonder what he was up to. Eventually, I went up to him and asked him why he needed the animals. To my surprise, he replied with the purest innocence, "Inko mene jungle mey lay ker jaana hai"

Puzzled but utterly touched by his imagination, I asked, "Why do you want to take them to the jungle?" Ahmad's response was simply heart-melting, "Inko waha per her chor ke aana hai kiun ke animals jungle mey see hotay hein" ( AH MY HEART )

Curious about how he planned to transport them to the jungle, I asked, and Ahmad's reply was both ingenious and delightful, "Ship may. Abhi bananay laga hun ship"

He then constructed a ship, placing all the animals at the front.

before long, his friends joined him and sat with him in the ship. They were all heading towards the jungle to drop the animals. It was a moment that made my heart feel warm and fuzzy. 💕

In the morning meeting, the children were reminded about their previous day's discussion about their roads and zombie exploration. In the meeting, Muhammad Ahmed just started saying, "Zombies are back." That's how the discussion went to zombies again.

"They live in a creepy house," Ahmed mentioned.

"Hunted houses are scary," Mikael added.

Then, Mikael and Ahmed both said, "No, they don't exist."

The educator asked, "Where are these roads leading?"

Ahmed responded, "They are leading to cities."

"Roads are going to the colony," Mikael said.

"They also have a zoo," Amin added.

Aman and Rayyan’s house

Raayan and Aman decide to construct a tile house on the community ground. They gather mud and a shovel, and together, they start fixing the tiles into place. While working, they chat about their progress."

Raayan: "Let's build a tile house here!"

Aman: "Yeah, and we can use mud and a shovel to make it strong."

Raayan: "Great idea! Let's work together to get it done."

Aman: "Mai Apple help Krta hun!"

As they finish fixing the tiles, they assess their work and notice there's more to be done.

Raayan: "Now, let's work on making a roof to keep it dry inside."

Aman: "Good thinking! We can't have a house without a roof."

They start constructing the roof structure and securing it with more mud.

Raayan: "And add some mud to fix it properly. It'll hold everything together."

Aman: "Our house is really in shape!"

As they continue their work, their tile house on the community ground begins to look more and more like a cozy home.

Making Funny Faces (Update 1) (23rd October 2023)

The educator saw what they were doing and asked her "yeh aap kia kareyn hain" and to this they both excitedly said "funny faces banare hain". After making funny faces with shovels and on the ground, we had a chat about faces, and who taught them how to mak funny faces to which Zainab said "Mujhe Zunaira se sikhaya tha". After that Zunaira said "mujhe mama ne banana sikhaya tha". The educator asked them with what other resource could they make faces with to which Zunaira replied "paton se bhi ban sakta hai".

After this discussion, the children went outside and found chalk. They happily scribbled away on the wall when their teacher found them, Zunaira said "hum aik doosri ki shakalein banare hain" with a smile on her face.

A Heartwarming Surprise for Ahil!!

Zaroon had an idea to make a special treat for Ahil because he had been away for a long time and wasn't feeling well. Musa was helping him with this.

Zaroon had a plate and a soft sponge that he was pretending was a cake. When I asked them what they were doing, Zaroon said "Hum Ahil k liye cake bana rahy hain", and Musa Shafi added "Hum Ahil k lie cake bana rahay hain taa k wo jaldi theek hojae".

After they finished their pretend cake, they gave it to Ahil. They even added some dirt and called it chocolate sprinkles. Ibrahim said "Humnay Ahil ko khush kardia" when he saw his happy smiley face.

Ibrahim wanted to start a place where they could fix cars, like a workshop. He was calling it a "Mechanic Shop" In this mechanic shop, there was Ahil's car, which wasn't working properly, and a section with old car parts that Ibrahim called "puranay parts." They also had many extra tires and cleaning tools.

While cleaning Ahil's car, Ibrahim said, "Gariyan saaf horahi hain." I asked Ahil what he named his car. He said, "Ahil's Car." Then, Ibrahim asked him, "What's the name of our car, Vigo or Glory?" Ahil answered, "Vigo."

At the same time, Zaroon arranged all the old parts and spare tires. Ibrahim told Ahil, "Thori der mai gaari chal jaegi, petrol daal k."

So, Musa Shafi, Musa Waqas, Ibrahim, Zaroon, and Hisham all hurried to collect some dirt from the ground. They pretended it was petrol and poured it into the car's tank. While doing this, Ibrahim ran around and said, "Run, run as fast as you can, I'm the gingerbread man," remembering a story they read a week ago.

Musa Waqas and Hisham were very excited to "fill up" the car with their pretend petrol. Musa Shafi joked, "Gari mar jaegi petrol bhar bhar k'!" Then, they all decided to sit inside the car because now it was working. Ahil wondered where to sit, and Zaroon quickly made a seat for him at the back of the car, and Ahil happily sat there.

Now in EY1, Arfa and Zirwa explored the camera. They checked its buttons and had an excessive conversation about the camera. Arfa was intrigued by sounds coming from upper portion of her house. She suggested if she could have a similar camera like the one in our class. She wanted to install it in her upper portion,so she could see from where the sounds were coming from.

In our morning meeting, I asked Arfa, Zirwa and Dua about the camera and if Arfa could find a camera to explore its functions. I asked them if they wanted to take pictures from the camera? Arfa said she wants to. When I suggested they can use my mobile to take pictures she replied " mere pas bhi mobile hai but yeh wala camera nae wou wala" She was clear that she wants a professional camera and not a phone one. When I told her we dont have one right now, after contemplating for a while, she agreed on using my phone to take pictures.

In the morning meeting, the children were reminded about yesterday's exploration, and they started talking about jumping and how it makes them feel. The teacher set a prompt and placed different materials on the floor in a line. These materials included newspaper sheets, wood, a steel tray, cellophane sheets, and tiles for the children to jump on and explore the different materials and the sounds that come when you jump on different materials.

Aman came and asked, "Teacher, are we going to do with this?" Upon asking what he wanted to do, he said, "I want to jump on this." Then, he started jumping, and all of his classmates joined in.

Fine sunny day, everyone decided to go play in the big ground. There is a huge big tree lying on the side in the ground. There was a little hole on the upper side, Azlaan decided it was gonna be his "choola" and "fridge". To cook on his choola he needed some grocery. Rafeal came along and told him he has a shop.
Azlaan: Rafeal mje zara neechay sai gobi la do.
Rafeal: theek hai, lakin phir tm hanso gai nai.
He gave grass to azlaan and went towards the grill.
Rafeal: ye shop hai. Mai nai is sai mango (yellow leave) lai liya hai. Mai usay gobi mai dalonga.
Azlaan: Mai nai namak daal dya hai.

In the morning meeting Educator talked about shops and shopping they did the previous day. It resonated with pareesa. She wanted to make her own shop. She invited dua but she said no so she asked aahil next if he would come with her he agreed.

Pareesa imagined the whole blocks rack as a shop and the blocks inside them were divided into different sections of things like fruits, vegetables and snacks etc. Aahil was the shopkeeper. She asked if she can have a shopping bag. She thought it over and made the puppets into bags because they had pockets so she can easily put her grocery in it.

Pareesa asked aahil if she can buy things free because she's out of money. He agreed to it. But after a while he would need money so pareesa had to made the small rectangular blocks into money.

Pareesa bought big circular wooden blocks from the shop to make a tall cake. The tiles were burgers. She brought burger on a plate for the educator and juice ( big cylindrical blocks), aahil and for herself. The educator asked if she can have some fries with the meal? She made fries and put some salt on it. Aahil put pepper on his fries to make them spicy. Pareesa put pepperoni on hers.
Aahil: it's too spicy, it's too spicy. Give me some ketchup.
The juices were of different flavours. Pareesa gave the educator mango flavour, hers was orange and aahil said his is strawberry.
Pareesa: No you have a milkshake.
Aahil: Ah! No I don't like milkshakes. It's a juice.

In dessert, we had the tall cake. Each circle block was a different flavour. Aahil got the rainbow flavour which he didn't like.
Aahil: Oh my tummy! Oh my tummy! It got so big from eating all this food. I don't want it.
Pareesa cut few more pieces. She gave the educator chocolate flavour, for her ownself she had strawberry and for aahil it was orange.

In the morning meeting, pareesa and aahil wanted to go shopping again. We decided to show them the book "First look at Shopping" to vast their information about shopping and what do they think about it.

Pareesa said first we need money for it. Next we go get fruits and vegetables. There was a picture of Bell peppers. Aahil said pointing towards it " these are pumpkin we make soap from it.

On the bakery section, Pareesa said " Daddy brought this cake but I didn't like it because I wanted these big ones (baguettes) and gingerbread man. Aahil pointed towards a picture and asked what are these? The educator told him those were called pastries.

At the chemist section, Pareesa said " I have a pink unicorn toothbrush. They both agreed that they Brush their teeth daily.

At the toys section, Aahil said " my dad got me this construction kit and trains too. I like cars too so we buy them too. Pareesa got the puppets.

In the clothes section, Aahil bought hangers and pareesa bought belt and a hat.

In the pet section, the educator asked them if they have any pets? Pareesa said they got parrots and Aahil said they have a cat who has her own toothbrush too.

In the stationery section, Aahil got colour pencils and drawing pins. Pareesa got pens and paper clips.

After reading and exploring the whole book, Pareesa saw Dua's toy laptop. She told Aahil you will be the customer and I will be the cashier. Aahil bought things, she took them, put it on the laptop and said BEEP and gave it back to him like checking it out for him. Rafeal came from outside and joined them.
Rafeal: I want strawberry, Peach and mango (affiliating it with the colours of the spiking connectors).
Rafeal went towards Pareesa because he wanted to play with the laptop too.
Pareesa: No, I am the cashier. You're the daddy, teacher zainab is the mommy and Aahil is the brother.
Rafeal disagreed and said No I am the officer.

Rafeal: When we get hot, water comes out of our eyes.

We had a dialogic meeting for it and different suggestions were given. We decided to show them a 2 min clip of a movie which has different emotions and see what do they say about it and would they be able to recognise them.

Amelia had the idea to create a wishing well spontaneously, and with everybody's help, she stacked all the tires on top of each other. The tires were big and heavy, so it took teamwork. She decided to stack four big tires, as they were at her height, and then she came up with the idea to go inside them. I was curious about her intentions and wondered what she was about to do. Eventually, she asked everyone to make wishes, promising to grant them. Intrigued by the concept, everyone eagerly participated.

Ibrahim wished for "Give me money," Musa Shafi said, "Give me 100 dollars," and Rohan requested, "Give me donuts." Amelia granted each wish, cheerfully saying, "Here you go." This continued the next day, and now others were also interested in going inside the wishing well. That's when I emphasized the importance of taking turns and waiting patiently for their chances. All the children agreed to follow this rule.

Amelia went first, followed by Haya, then Fatima, Ibrahim, and Aima. Each child wished for different things like ice cream, a crown, and money. On the day Amelia wore a crown, she asked me, "Mam Moyna, when I go inside, I need you to ask me for a crown for your student at school." I agreed and followed her idea. She was delighted to receive a crown for herself. Amelia's spontaneous wishing well, made from stacked tires, turned into a joy-filled experience. The children made diverse wishes, from money to donuts, and Amelia granted each one with enthusiasm. Introducing a turn-taking system added order, teaching the importance of patience. After observing their keen interest in the wishing well, I decided to delve deeper. Collaborating with my co-educators, we brainstormed ideas to understand what fascinated the children about the wishing well. The consensus was to engage them in a discussion about "What do they love about wishing well" and involve them in the process of creating props for their own wishing well.

Putting our plan into action, the next day, I gathered Amelia, Ayma, Fatima, Haya, and Ibrahim after lunch and led them to the basement. Seated around a table, I could see their anticipation as we prepared for a discussion about the wishing well.

I initiated a small discussion about the wishing well and what is that one thing they love about it. Each child shared their thoughts:

Amelia: "Because it's a well, and our wishes come true. It's magical."
Ayma: "I love being a princess and wearing the crown that comes with it."

Whether it be through the kitchenette creations, or an ice cream from an ice cream truck constructed outside with wooden blocks, or shaping clay or playdough into fruits and veggies, he always tries to sell these things for an extensive amount of money.
One day, Zayan decided to sell some books from the book rack. He pretended to be a delivery rider and acted like he was delivering books to Nooreh. "Dig Ding Ding. Ye parcel aya hai, Nooreh ka parcel aya hai 3 million ka." Nooreh happily accepted the parcel, so Zayan went back to the book rack and delivered more books to her in the same way. Then he asked me, "Aap order krein ab" and he specifically requested that I order it over the phone.
The other day, he was helping his classmate Fatima do makeup for everyone using crayons. He went to Ma'am Shub and said, "Makeup wala aa gya hai makeup kraa lein" After noticing him getting involved in these engagements for some time, I discussed his exploration with my fellow educators to better understand why he's so interested in selling things. We decided to conduct a parallel pretend play to test out whether Zayan's interest lies in money, simply enjoying selling items, or comprehending the concept of goods having value and needing to be acquired. We prepared a few questions to ask Zayan during the pretend play. We'll inquire whether he chooses to buy anything from the parallel shop or if he prefers to be the seller. If he decides to be the seller, we'll ask him why he wants to take on that role.

After the children finished being creative with the resources, we decided to start the play. Ibrahim helped the girls stack up the big tires to make a wishing well. Everyone was eager to go inside and grant each other's wishes. However, I reminded them to take turns. Amelia was the first to raise her hand, and we all agreed to send her inside the wishing well. The others waited patiently for their turns.

Amelia began the play by receiving the creative items from everyone. The idea was to give her the items, wish for them through the wishing well, and then have them returned. Haya, Fatima, Ayma, and Ibrahim started wishing for the things they had made. Haya wished for a toy, Ayma wanted her pink toy back, and Ibrahim wished for his own wishing well. Amelia granted their wishes, and they were delighted to get their items back.

Asking the children to draw their wishes. 2. Exploring how to make a permanent wishing well for the class. 3. During a meeting with Haya, Fatima, and Amelia, I presented the idea of drawing their wishes. Haya and Fatima were excited about making a flower, but Amelia preferred to continue being creative with resources. She convinced us to repeat the process of choosing items from the inventory, suggesting that this time they choose four things each. So, I took them back to the inventory where:

Day 4 (Pt 2)

Haya took the lead by pasting the glitter sheet onto the mirror, which had two sides. On one side, she placed a small pot with a finger puppet inside, creating what she called a "plate with two sides." Meanwhile, Amelia drew inspiration from Haya's previous game, where a ball could be moved by blowing through a straw. Amelia decorated her straw with hearts and stars, adding her unique touch.

Fatima, who was unsure of what she was making initially, surprised us all with her creativity. She made a musical instrument using a straw. Attaching a small pot to the straw with tape and yarn, she proudly presented her creation as a violin.

Their creativity with the open-ended materials they chose themselves was truly inspiring. As they continued their play, Ibrahim helped stack the tires again, and the girls began their imaginative play. Taking turns, they made wishes and enjoyed themselves.

During this play, they learned a new word: "Genie." Previously, they referred to the person inside the wishing well as just that, but I explained that a genie is the one who grants wishes in a wishing well, adding a new layer of magic and imagination to their play.

Ibrahim: "We can use metal, a screwdriver, and a hammer." Me: "What if we don't have metal?"

Ibrahim: "We can make our own. We can take Pepsi tins and flatten them with the hammer."

Me: "Okay, that's a creative idea. Do you have any other ideas?"

Ibrahim: "We need big tires and UHU glue."

Me: "Okay, what else?"

Ibrahim: "We can use planks and glue them together to make the wishing well."

(Amelia overheard our conversation and interjected)

Amelia: "No, a wishing well is round. If we use planks, it will be square, not round."

Ibrahim: "We can glue them in a round shape. Don't worry." Me: "Amelia, what ideas do you have for a permanent wishing well?"

Amelia: "We can make it with cement, rocks, sand, and water."

Me: "What if we don't have cement or sand?"

Amelia: "We can collect some mud from the mud pit."

Their ideas showed a great deal of creativity and resourcefulness, highlighting their ability to think outside the box and problem-solve effectively.

After our discussion, we decided to go with Ibrahim's idea and create a permanent wishing well using planks. I set up a provocation for them, providing planks, wood glue, popsicle sticks to apply the glue, foam, and cardboard.

Ibrahim eagerly started applying glue to the sides of the planks, and Amelia joined him. I assisted them in holding the planks together, but despite our efforts, the planks didn't stick together in a round shape. Ibrahim suggested making a square wishing well instead, and Amelia agreed. We laid the planks down and began joining them with glue.

Amelia exclaimed, "This is our masterpiece!" She even created a song, singing, "Wishing well so magical, grant our wishes." Ibrahim compared spreading the glue to spreading mayonnaise, while Amelia humorously declared herself the "glue girl." Seeing their enthusiasm, Hisham joined in, assisting Ibrahim with applying the glue.

Amelia eventually got distracted and went to play with her friends, but Ibrahim, Hisham, and I continued working. We joined six planks together to create one set. Ibrahim then placed foam on the glued planks and added a cardboard layer, ensuring that no one would get hurt by the planks inside.

Counting the planks, Ibrahim determined that he would make three more sets like this. By the end of the day, we had completed two sets and left them to dry for a day.

In the morning meeting I asked the children what do they think time is and I got some really interesting answers.

Musa: " Maam Maham time is 1 2 3 4 5 and at 5 I watch TV and robots and power rangers and at 6 7 8 I eat and then it’s sleep time and then I wake up and go to school "

Haaniya: "Time is 40 mins and it’s also home time"

Maryam: " time is clock and numbers and it’s also 20-teen minutes "

Irha: " jub 1 hota hai tou home time hota hai "

Izhaan " mene kal hee tou bataya tha Irha ko time ka "

Mehdi: " I don’t know what time is but I know it’s 4. I’m number 4 "

Then I asked the children if they could draw time for me. The boys drew a clock and the girls said they’ll show me time tomorrow.

Drawing is a one very prominent way of self expression. EY-0, which consists of 2 years old, has been exploring and developing the skill of drawing to express themselves. Initially, their canvas consisted of repeated strokes and patterns which evolved into a interesting shapes and figures later on.
Gulwareena began with a simple circle that gradually transformed into sprials, which she would reffer as lollipop and a bit simple varriation of it would be 'apple' and a 'ball'. Though Amal would put small strokes on paper without attaching any specific names to them. Recognizing their interest I introduced them with basic shapes through a 'Shape puzzle' and a book named 'Shapes'. During play I would make those on a paper, in mud or anywhere possible like a drive way or blocks with chalks, making it seem like something that would be achieveable for a 2year old. Gradually, Gulwareena started trying to copy different lines and shapes. As the interest flurished, I wanted to introduce the concept of simple shapes forming recognizeable objects, like a simple flower, sun, clouds, rain and grass etc. Inspired by this Gulwareena requested me to make 'Gulwareena', which I did. After that she she requested me to make 'Teacher Arooj', her peers, and family, one after another, providing me with the input related to the details she wantted me to add such as "Teacher Arooj dupatta", "Abrish shoes", "Gulwareena hands". In the coming days she started making self potraits using only circles. She would put circles with circles, and circles beside circles to draw her potraits. As the days passed, she added lines to her potraits to add further details.
Where as, I observed that Amal did try to engange with crayon and pencils to express herself, she progressed from simple strokes to draw circles and combination of circles but she enjoyed more creating her works with tapes. So, I provided her with tapes, glitter sheets, confetti crepe and glue sticks, one at a time, with which she would paste different pieces together and call them, 'lollipop' or 'doodo'. She also tried exploring paints with which she enjoyed making 'germs', 'dinosaurs' and hand patterns. Gulwareena also made use of these materials and made stary sky by drawing a spiral with a black crayon in the middle of the papper and putting pieces of glitter sheet all around it, as 'stars'. As the days are passing EY-0 is developing their self expression in different ways by exploring different materials and learing how to make use of them.

The next day, we conducted a parallel play to determine if Zayan was interested in my shop. He was already on the sensory table, pl ying with cotton and connections to create "Spicy Noodles". He was looking at me on and off as I set up my shop, but he didn't say anything or ask what I was doing. I took several bowls and filled them with various materials from the inventory, like bottle caps, connectors, straws, knobs, and some books on the stairs. I also put up a banner so that children would know there is a shop here. I also made some money to give a proper perspective on how the buying and selling process works. When I finished building a shop, I began hawking my products to attract children. Rayyan became interested and asked to buy a straw. I asked him for some money in exchange for a straw. He paid me $10 for the straw. Then Azhaan arrived and asked for straws. I also requested him to give me money for the straws. He wanted to buy 5 straws, so I asked him for $50 to buy them. With the assis ance of Ma'am Hafsa, he gave me the correct money and got the straws. He was quite pleased with his purchase and showed it to his friends. Zayan still did not come to my shop; instead, he began selling his own product, demonstrating his competitive nature. "Noodles le lo noodles le lo" He wanted to sell his noodles to Ma'am Arooj in particular. I, too, walked to his pretended stall and asked him what he was selling and at what price. "Me spicy noodles ki ik plate 3 billion dollars ki sell krunga." He then sold me noodles on a plate full with cotton. "Ab aap ki shop pe jaa Kay cheezain sell karta hoonSaari cheezain sell kar deta hoon. He began selling things from both my and his shops to his classmates (Rayyan, Azhaan, and Hamza). After everything was sold out, he requested me to take everything out of the shop, including the shop banner. "Ye saari cheezain le jain ye "shop banner" bhi utaar dein ab kuch ni bikay ga" He kept all of the money he made from selling the products. He enthusiastically showed the money to everyone in the class at the moment. "Ma'am Madiha ne mjhe money di hai" he kept telling everyone. He also took the money with him home.

Shops Update

When we got wooden crates, the children had an idea that they would create shops using them, but before they made shops, they wanted to make “money”. After they made “money”, the children took the crates and set up their shops where they sold different items. The children also gave their educators money to spend on their shops. Some sold chutneys, while some children sold candies for “1000/2000 rupees”. It was quite an interesting experience to see children play the role of shop keeper, as they sold their items in varying prices. The children seemed to take delight while handling money, and they seemed to have a keen interest in numbers. Overall, the children had fun playing the role of shopkeepers.

Making volcano in the big ground

One day Zirwa and Pareesa were playing in the big ground. Both of them started gathering twigs, pebbles, leaves and started making a house. Pareesa used an empty container to gather sand from the ground and pour it onto the house.

Educator: Whose house is this?

Pareesa: Alligator’s!

Pareesa then got some leaves and rocks and made a boundary of the house.

Pareesa: Leaves are food for the Alligator. Rocks to save him.

Pareesa added long leaves as-well and poured sand on them as if planting a plant.

Zirwa brought a pencil and made holes with it in the sand. They felt like they are done with the Alligator house now.

During our outdoor playtime, a group of children became interested in creating volcanoes in the big ground after discovering a sand mound. This report documents their experience and observations during the creation process.

Next day, when the paints had dried, I asked Ibrahim and Amelia where they wanted the wishing well to be placed, in the ground or in the classroom. Ibrahim preferred it in the classroom, so we each carried one set and took it to the classroom. I then asked them to "draw a model of the wishing well's placement in the class, and how we would be joining it?"

Ibrahim sketched shapes like triangles, squares, and rectangles. He even tried to set up the wishing well in a triangular shape, but no one agreed, so we settled on the square idea. Ibrahim suggested, "We can glue them together like we already did."

Amelia expressed her desire to place it in the art corner, which wasn't possible due to the wall. So, I suggested a corner where the planks could be easily glued and remain stable. They all loved my idea. However, Amelia then asserted, "I'm the director, you all have to follow my instructions." Ibrahim, with his independent mind, wasn't quite happy with this and disagreed with her ideas, leading to arguments and conflicts.

Seeing Ibrahim's reaction, I intervened. I reminded Amelia that "directors not only give instructions but also help their workers." I emphasized the importance of teamwork and not going against each other. Amelia agreed, saying, "Teamwork makes the dream work." She then made a model on paper illustrating how we would leave one entrance open. We followed her idea, glued the planks together, and positioned them between the walls, leaving one side open as planned. The wishing well was finally completed.

I expressed my pride in their efforts and thanked them. They were delighted as it was completed after a month of efforts. Ibrahim, however, was a little frustrated because of the conflicts.

Weights and weighing scales

The children were shown a video as a prompt, which aimed to teach them about weights. After the video, a prompt was set up by creating a seesaw with a block under a long piece of wood. Cotton, stones, and wooden blocks were placed on the seesaw to allow the children to explore different materials and understand weights better. The interaction began, and Marium from Ey 3 joined in, followed by the rest of the students. They engaged in conversation about weights, putting various materials on both sides of the seesaw.

Aman commented, "Ye heavy hogaya hai is liye neeche hai"

Zaviyar observed, "One of it is going down, and one of them is going up."

Aman added, "Bigger things have more power,"

and Ahmed contributed, "Smaller things go up, bigger things go down."

The next day, the teacher created a weighing scale with ropes and baskets tied on both sides as a prompt. More heavy and large materials were introduced, leading the children to create their own weighing scales. Marium used two mortars tied with a rope, hanging them from a hook on the roof in her class, while Zaviyar made his own inside a wooden hut. The teacher then divided the children into three groups to help them understand weights better. Another seesaw was set up as a prompt, and the children were asked what they thought had weight.

Saadaan suggested, "AC, sofa, even stool,"

Aman added, "You know, teacher, even human beings have weight,"

and Abdullah concluded, "No, everything, teacher."

In conclusion, these hands-on exploration and discussions allowed the children to explore and understand the concept of weights in a practical way.

I tried to rekindle the children’s interest regarding honeybees by asking them thought provoking questions like:

"Imagine you were a honeybee for a day. Where would you choose to build your home?" and another question:

"Do you think honeybees decorate their homes like we do? What decorations might they use?"

The children had some really interesting answers.

Irha: unka ghar tree mey hota hay ( their homes are in a tree )

Maryam: mey unkay liye swimming banau gi aur flowers bhi. ( I will make a swimming pool and flowers for them )

Haaniya: Maam Maham their house is small and yellow and it also has a TV.

Ahmad: unkay ghar mey circles hotay hein small round round. ( their homes have small round circles )

Then they showed me how their homes look like by drawing them on papers. While everyone was drawing, Maryam said " yeh real nai hein" ( these aren’t real )

I asked her why? To which she said " real home tou honeybee Kher banati hein " ( they make real homes themselves )

We all love to travel especially by air. The children in my class are fascinated by aeroplanes. They loved building them with every kind and shape of blocks. It all started when Rayyan and Ahmed decided to build a plane at the entrance of our community. They used the big blocks for the structure and few small blocks here and there. This intrigued the other children and they all wanted to sit in the plane . Our coordinator suggested that they all should pretend to be passengers and she would be the boarding person . So the children made their own tickets and collected their bags and made a line where they got their boarding passes. Aman was the captain and Ahmed was the guy in charge of the luggage while Abdullah was the security guy. I watched in amazement while they confidently carried their bags and boarding passes in one hand just like we adults too. Ahmed helped each one of them put their bags in the luggage compartment while they get fo the plane . Everyone had a different destination and the plane stopped at each one of them .I didn't want their momentum to break so I didn't ask any questions and kept observing. Their play felt real and meaningful . They were in control and focused. We don't realise it but children are constantly observing their elders and everything that's happening around them . They are like sponges absorbing everything that comes their way. Their play was a true dipiction of that.

Children are fond of construction. From building houses to cars and castles they love playing with their imagination. One day when all the children were playing outside, Sarmeer was constructing with blocks that caught my attention. I asked him what he was building and he said " I am building an arena." He took his time building it and once he was done he came to me so I could have a look.
It was so creative and different. He explained all that he had created. "This is where the audience will sit and that's the fence where the bulls will come and that's where the fight will be." I was so impressed by his idea and the way he made it . He wanted me to take a picture and he beamed as I said "smile."

One day, I built a house using indoor blocks on the round table in the classroom. Abrish liked it and wanted to create a house like mine. So she asked me to join her. During construction, she would go to the model I'd created and try to arrange the blocks in the same way. Hamza joined her and decided to show her where to place the blocks. They worked together to build a pretty house.

The next day, Abrish decided to rebuild the house. She remembered the house she had built yesterday. Hamza joined her today on his own. He sat next to her and arranged a few blocks in front of him. Abrish began building the house with cylindrical and triangular pieces. I began asking her the questions we discussed in dialogics yesterday, such as: *Who is this house for? A: Ye baba k Liye hai. *Acha baba kay ilawa kon kon rahay ga is ghar me? A: Umm Baba, Mama, Daddu. I continued asking her who else would live in this house, but her response was the same: *Is house me kitnay rooms honge? A: Two rooms Honge. Pink Wala Baba Mama Ka Hoga, or Blue Wala Daddu Ka Hoga. Hamza then said, "Mera favourite flavour blue, orange, or red Hain." I asked Umama the same question as well. "Mere Ghar me 2 pankhay hotay hai. Two kamray bhi honge. Baba mama, daddi, or baby raheinge. Mera Ghar bhi bhara hai (Pointing at Abrish's house).
They then pointed to the kitty on my mobile case. "Ye ap ki kitten hai? Aap Pyaar Krti Hain Apni Kitty Ko?- Umama. Hamza pointed out the hand in the cat picture. "Ye apka haath hai?" I said yes. Then I asked them, *Do you have kittens at home?
Umama: No, mere Ghar me kitty nahi hai.
Hamza: Nai, mere Ghar me kitty nahi hai, mere Ghar me billi hai. Vo bohat bhari hain. Vo chak bhi maarti hai!
Abrish: Nahi to Meri kitty chak ni maarti. Vo to mjhe Pyaar krti hai.

When she finished building her house, I asked her what color it would be. "Brown" Umama's home was red in color. She also built steps and a large door for her home. Finally, Abrish added a long rectangular block on each side of the home. "Ye mere house ki galli hai" she said. Hamza, who was seated with them, built a sandwich cake out of triangular blocks and requested that Abrish lay it between her house, but Abrish did not want that and said her house is perfect as it is now.

A few days back, EY 1 and EY 0 were introduced with a new paint technique in which students were instructed to paint on chart papers with only their hands. We took the children outside, gave them a palette of different colors, and asked them to paint on the paper with only their finger tips. So they all demonstrated their creativity by using their favorite color or by combining two or three colors to create a new color, and then they started developing various patterns and prints on white chart paper. After the paint had dry, I used permanent markers to create some cha acters (figurines, animals, cartoons, and so on) on their corresponding works. I showed the drawing to the children the next day, and they pointed out the figures they recognized.

We chose to continue the painting engagements by allowing the children to hand stamp on color chart paper. In this project, each child was given a different color of paper. Only two colors were utilized for this engagement because the project was primarily concerned with color mixing and orientation. I painted one of each child's hands orange and the other green. Then they were asked to rub their palms together to create a new color. Every child had a unique mixing approach, which led to the creation of their own hue. The majority of them come in colors of green. Gulwareenah chose not to mix the colors. She went on the paper with only the color green. Rohan and Sherdil stamped their hands separately on the paper as well. Rayyan managed to create a shade of brown. When children finished hand stamping, we let their artworks dry in the sun. After drying, the colors on the sheets became more vibrant and bright.The next day, all of the children were shown their paintings and asked what we should do with them. Rayyan showed his painting to his mother and told how we handled this engagement. Zayan said "Meri drawing pe big dinosaur banain". Then I asked every child to name their favourite animal so that I could transform their hand prints into the animals they liked. Rayyan wished for a tiger, Umama a unicorn, Rohan an elephant, Abrish a tiger, Gilwareenah a butterfly, Amal a dog, Fatima a cat, and Sherdil a monkey. I began drawing animals at the atelier while sitting in the classroom. Fatima and Zayan sat with me and helped me decide what colors to use. The drawings were then presented in the classroom and shown to the students, who were all able to identify their artworks.

With the weather taking a turn for the better, and beautiful sunny days, the children took full advantage and decided to make a "swimming pool". This was initiated by Subhan, who gathered his friends. He said "Hum sab mil kar swimming pool banain gain to bare bane ga". When he said this, his friends decided to get jugs of water while some of his friends decided to dig a hole for the 'swimming pool'. His educator asked him who he was building this pool for? In the beginning he answered, for humans, but when his educator pointed out that the pool was small. He then said that he was making it for insects. All in all, the children took full advantage of a beautiful day, and got together to make something unique.

During a normal day at school, Abdul Hadi decided to make a farm house with wooden blocks and he happily told his educator that his farmhouse has "horses, sheep and cows". Following pursuit, Subhan added that he had a donkey in his house and that he went on donkey rides. Their educator Ma'am Baneen talked to the children about their favourite animals the next day, and the children had witty responses. Dua told her that she loved cows because they give milk, and their love of animals subsequently showed in their play when Subhan made a farm house with a dinosaur chamber and trampoline, while Aahil made a zoo for ducks and tigers

Seeing the children's interest in animals and their homes, we decided to set up a prompt for them. We displayed wooden blocks, clay and fake animals for the children. The children let their imagination run wild and made zoos and jungles for them. Aahil made a farm with horses, while Dua made a zoo and said "I'm playing with the animals and I love cows". This led to an interesting exchange between the children. Subhan said that "tiger nai khate woh ghar me rehte hain". Amal happily added that "horsey lets me sit on it". Zunaira added in to the conversation by telling us she watched a movie about elephants. Aahil recalled a time when he fed the monkeys. and Hadi mentioned that a men was feeding the ducks. Parisa told the class happily that she had baby chicks at home.

The children not only showed an active interest in animals. but it was nice to see them share their ideas with their friends.

Subsequently, we took the children outside to see the new additions in the animal pen. They were curious to see the tortoise, and they had a few questions: "why is the tortoise slow?" "Why is the sheep hard?" "How does the tortoise get in its shell?"

As educators, we found the children's questions unique, and it made us realise that children have a unique way of questioning and looking at the world.

After listening to the children's questions about different animals, we decided to show them images of different animals to see what they thought of them. The children described their favourite animals and what sounds those animals made. Subhan told his educator "agar hum sheep ko personal space nai deyn gay, to woh push karti hai."

Once, while Rafael was building planes with blocks, Irtaza took interest and they both had an intense discussion about planes. After this, they decided to make a bigger plane by placing logs on the bin for support, and it reminded them of an aeroplane. Azlaan joined in and excitedly told his educator "We are building a plane."

When Ms. Baneen asked them "When will the plane take off?" Rafael thought carefully and said "we are still working on it" while Irtaza said "Engine thanda hai. We have to wait for it to start." They then kept chairs for the passengers, and they made a proper aisle for the plane by adding seats, televisions and trays.
